I was of the opinion that a Sunday morning 11am protest would not get the best vocal support. Personally I feel it's too early for the body clock. Let's face it would players be on top form if games kicked off at 11am ?
It may have been more vocal afterwards, but we'll never know.
I was a bit bemused from the Upper North, that there didn't appear to be much "protesting" in the Lower West. I have to say I was somewhat confused. There was far more disruption caused by let's say the 30 invaders last season, than there appeared to be today.
Personally, I think 95% of Charlton fans would like RD to go if a better owner takes over.
However, I'd guess perhaps 10%-20% of fans disagree with protests for various reasons, the main one being they want to watch the game without disruption.
Anyhow, as Henry Irving said, it was still a win for the 95% who are anti RD.
The point was clearly demonsrated what the vast majority of fans still think and whilst there was some disruption to people who dislike protests, it wasn't too bad and I didn't see any fans arguing or worse.
There will of course be the odd thing I'm unaware of, but overall the strength of feeling was demonstrated.
CARD will never please everyone. Some want no protests. Some think it's about right. Some want more protest. Some want the protests to be let's say "rougher".
Well done to all.
@Covered End your mate with the gray hair was giving it again. When the "we want Roland out" at 3 - 0 started he stood up and asked "why?"
Cos were 13th in league one, on our 9th manager and 55m in debt, that's why.
Similar to a mum and her kids by me today shouting "you're showing off"!
The kids had even brought tooth picks and used them to pop balloons!
Education/imparting facts, is the way forward. If I didn't attend all the meetings and spend so long on here, I would be unaware of much that has been said and done.
Agree wholeheartedly.
It's important to remember that as large and active as CharltonLife is, it has far from 100% coverage over the fanbase. The same goes for Facebook groups, Twitter and so on.
CARD has done some cracking work by not only protesting, but also handing out literature and getting press coverage. Additionally, @Airman Brown has done similar via VOTV.
Ultimately the problem with CARD initiatives (and the VOTV) is one of confirmation bias. That's a tricky one to solve as it's basic human nature; people seek out views that support their own, and are reluctant to have those views challenged.
If I didn't have a social media presence and access to this forum, and I saw protests and match disruptions, it's not inconceivable that I'd label CARD as a bunch of troublemakers who have been ruining my enjoyment of the game. I'd use the same arguments that we hear via Sue and co; "We're Charlton and we've been in League One before, give them a chance.", "Wasn't that Rick chap an employee who left and has an axe to grind?", "This abuse is unwarranted, in the paper the other day that poor Belgian woman said she'd learnt from her mistakes.", "They were protesting and causing trouble when we were in the Championship, look how much that's helped us!".. and so on.
I know we've mentioned this topic before, and undoubtedly there's been excellent progress, but clearly there's still pockets who have so far been out of reach. It's worth remembering that before we dismiss those who seem content with the situation.
Sitting in Lower West, I saw very few official programmes being read, even by those who were not participating in the "stand ups" & chants. CARD have exploited this vacuum several times to try to inform & educate, but confirmed anti-protest fans will probably either refuse the offer of the free programmes, or be extremely sceptical of the veracity of any inconvenient truths in them.
However, it is a way of reaching out to the unconvinced, who may well regard the anti regime bias amongst CL posters with a similar distrust that many on here express of other social media sources which have the opposite bias. It is right (as suggested above) that once people have formulated a view, they can often close their minds to contradictory ideas. The history of science is full of examples!
Perhaps something along the lines of a FAQ page giving frequent misconceptions alongside properly referenced proof of the contrary might be helpful? However, you will never convince everybody. Of course there are also always those who delight in drawing attention to themselves by positioning themselves in a contrary position - and some go beyond that to be downright rude, bullying exhibitionists. Naming no names, but "I've got a little list... They'd none of 'em be missed!"
And maybe that is the point - it's a LITTLE list, albeit a rather noisy one.
Heard from a reliable source today that it took Katrien an extra 30 minutes to park her car, and consequently RD has decided to sell the club. Well done to all involved.
still can't believe CARD didn't deliver Roland's head on a plate , that is how I took the end game to mean Seriously CARD can't be serious unless they provide a willing owner to pay Roland's price
If you're not happy with 13th place in League One and the competent way we are being run then you are not a true supporter , just give em another season or 3 and a few January transfer windows and I'm sure they'll get it right and if you haven't got the patience for another 3 year wait just admire the pitch and red seats .
To the 80% singing Roland Out songs can you seriously not see that with another owner things could be a lot worse (ok I've followed us since 1976 and we have never finished lower or had a table position as low as this season but come on don't forget SCP finished 13th and if he can get us up the season after then it must be really easy )

I saw the leaflets that were thrown from the upper west being read woth interest by quite a few people in the directors box. I thought they were very effective, so well done whoever was responsible.

TBF, I didn't pick one up from the floor because I saw the Season Ticket 2017/18 headline and thought it was a club promotion to get fans to buy one and I've already renewed anyway. Must have worked because there looked like a steady queue of fans at the ticket window after the game

I had a chat with him at half time. I asked him if he was aware that RD had stated twice that he wasn't concerned whether Charlton win games or not. He said he wasn't aware and if true it was disgraceful.
I still believe some of the people who are, let's say anti protesting, are still unaware of many of the facts.
I was chatting to somebody in the first half, I did not return to that seat for the second as he was never going to see my side of things.
He continually babbled on about only being interested in supporting the team on the pitch, and then continued to say that CARD were responsible for many problems, even down to saying that players do not want to play/come to Charlton because of the protests.

@LargeAddick why buy a £26 seat when, thanks to the complicated nature of seat pricing in the west you could have bought one for £17? We bought 2 in block H and then moved towards the back and more central for the 2nd half. Best view we've had for a long time back of block E I think.

Be careful what you wish for

Why do people keep expecting Card (who are fans) to 'deliver' an owner? We don't own the club fffs. Edit: think I've just been whooshed but my point still stands as it's a standard pro-regime line.

Mainly because I was assuming the central blocks would be too packed to do that with CARD asking everyone to buy in the West and I wanted to ensure I was near any planned protest that happened.

Being one of Card's biggest supporters even I have to admit today was a bit lame, esp in light of what Orient did yesterday.
I don't get what the 'head to the west lower' accomplished or what the aim was??!
My main problem with heading to the Lower West was I was too close to Robinson and so had to watch his antics, plus he blocked half the pitch whenever he emerged from the dugout.
I did get to see him smirk at the supporters as he had to walk through a load of balloons, after which he shook his head and quite deliberately trod on a couple. When the first goal was scored he oozed out of the dugout to turn to the directors' box pumping his fists. A good run-in ought not to disguise his massive failings.
On the plus side, my daughters came for the first time in three years and had a great day. As my 17-year-old said, where else can you get a game of football, free balloons, some interesting songs and a pitch invasion all for a tenner.

A good run in? Remind me who did we beat? An already relegated Swindon, a close to relegated Gillingham, an already relegated Chesterfield. Wow, what an achievement. Now where did I put that season ticket form?

Agree completely. But sadly it will be enough for Daisy to scotch any thoughts that Karl might not be the new Alex Ferguson, so he'll still be here, tanned and even bigger, come August.

Did I say that? No. Stop being a knob. The last five results don't prove him a good manager, far from it, just show we beat some very shit, some already relegated, teams.

Not defending anyone but you can only beat what you're put up against. The fact two of them were already relegated is just a consequence of the fixture list.
Just imagine the uproar if we hadn't have beaten those 3 teams! Not saying this makes Robinson a good manager but some serious questions would have been asked of his abilities otherwise.

Today, I hear, he's in Charlton Park at 11am, demonstrating how to catch clouds with a butterfly net.
