Agree entirely. For me, that 'deal' had the wrong feel about it from the moment I read their website begging for investors.
I'll keep my powder largely dry on this new deal - for one it's not completely over the line yet, although it seems unlikely to collapse now (this is Charlton we're talking about though!) -because the proof of the pudding is always in the eating but if you were asking me for a shopping list for our new owners, this would check off a lot of items.
Serious financial clout behind it - check.
Representation on the board, with background in English football - check.
Apparent respect for the traditions of the club - check.
Don't want to dismantle the current coaching team - check.
Will they spend as big as they appear able to? I don't know, but they surely can't be as tightfisted as Roland though - can they? Encouragingly, the money doesn't come from some anonymous backer who could walk away at any moment like Cash did, its a majority shareholder who now has an investment to protect.
Ideally it would have been someone with Charlton links involved, but one of the things RD & KM got most wrong when they took over was they were tone deaf to the expectations and wants of the fans. Having English representation on the board should help with that, although ultimately attitude is far more important than nationality.
For now, the East Street name is just a gesture, but the fact they took the time to research that part of our history is surely a good sign. Just by that action alone, they've shown more interest in that side of things than Roland did all his years as owner.
By the way, anyone who entered the Roland Departure Prediction competition.... 1st: 02/12/19 @CafcSCP Runners Up: 18/10/19 @CH4RLTON 08/01/20 @Alwaysneil Many congrats to @CafcSCP !
Can’t wait to get down the Valley tomorrow!! Win lose or draw, We’ve got our Charlton back!!
Standing at Charlton train station asking anyone in a suit if they’d join an Australian football consortium that are very confident of completing a deal within the next two crucial weeks.
My Valley Gold number was pulled out of the hat to do Crossbar Challenge tomorrow. I nominated my 18 year old son to do it, and we went to Sparrows Lane at lunchtime to get some tips from the under 18s. When we arrived Lee and Keith Peacock started chatting to my son and Lee offered to provide him some training - I think its a first for Crossbar Challengers. He spent about half an hour patiently coaching him, which when you think about the hectic schedule he has, and the weighty news announcement this morning, that is quite special. Lee couldn't be more relaxed, As you probably know, we have one very special gaffer there.
Steve Avery also spent a lot of time chatting to him and encouraging.
What a day, what a club
PA - they were probably considering him for the bench tomorrow.
At last........going to be some party @ The Valley tomorrow. Lets all hope that these guys have not only money (sack and sacks of it by the sound of things) but also interest in and ambition for the club unlike the old fart who can now be forgotten (although I will hopefully still be able to attend his funeral and dance on his grave). Roland's Out !!
I have proudly not posted ONE comment on any takeover thread prior to today as the constant let downs, false dawns , bullshit etc wound me up. Today I can post and be free !!!!! Can't wait to get back to the Valley for every home match with my Son. Been through a lot with this club but never boycotted before, even had a season ticket at sell***** and W. Ham.
When all the Johnny come latelys look back at this thread in 10 years time after our successful Champions league campaign I would like to point out that I went to Burnley and Blackpool night games away in 1981. I am not a glory boy and have earnt my little bit of Utopia.
In all seriousness, I had this bizarre thought about 18 months ago that for enduring the punishment inflicted on us by Roland surely we would get a rich reward in time. Hopefully this happens, although a bit surprised by many long standing fans getting too carried away with future predictions. This is Charlton after all.
So I run my hands over a bit of British Rail seating material now and again. So what? I'm not hurting anyone and it's over 18 years old so it's perfectly legal.

Perhaps worth waiting a week to get that half-season ticket you promised yourself?
Win lose or draw, We’ve got our Charlton back!!
Has Airman said anything yet?
(Oldie but moderately goodie)
