He's entitled to his opinion. I think he is in his 70s and there's definitely some in the older generation that don't like the protest aspects.
Judging by his Facebook he's hardly been pro-regime in the past, so it's a shame he feels he has to write this letter. If he has an issue why not contact someone involved?
The 'few antagonists' comment annoys me. CARD is and always has been a coalition of fan organisations. It's no less insulting to Charlton fans than Meire has been to suggest that we just follow a few bitter people blindly.
But you have to believe that, because otherwise you'd have to ask questions like, how do 3000 pigs make it onto the pitch if it's only a small number of people who feel this way?
What because someone is actually questioning what CARD are doing, you feel it's a shame that he felt that he should write a letter!
The chances are if he had actually contacted someone about his concerns he would have got exactly the same response as the posts on here slating him for daring to write a letter to the Mercury!
You should remember that you certainly do not represent all Charlton fans and quite a number of them are now voicing there opinions because they are sick and tired of match disruption and want to get on supporting the team and it's new manager.
As for your pigs, I saw quite a number who had more than one pig to throw, so don't be too sure that at least 3000 were supporting you!
50 years of support here. I protest, he doesnt, I see a problem, he doesnt.
So nothing in what he says has any merit? You had better start to find some common ground. Divided and Conquered.
Isn't it for the Ownership to find the common ground? We are customers, don't forget (and personally, I have never had a problem with that word to describe football fans). Well the customers, according to research conducted by marketing professionals within the Supporters Trust, and with a highly valid 750 plus sample size, are seriously pissed off.
" 80% of respondents currently feel very negative about the future prospects of Charlton under Roland Duchatelet"
This is a business. The overwhelming majority of the customers are seriously dissatisfied. If you see somebody at Tesco complaining about the length of the checkout queue, do you go up to them and tell them how lucky they are to have Tesco in the neighbourhood , and suggest they find common ground with you? No? Right, then.
Tbf I can well believe 80% feel very negative about our future under Duchatelet, but that's not his issue.
His issue is the disruption of the football matches.
I wonder what percentage of respondents feel we should disrupt the matches, especially bearing in mind a large % of respondents are on CL & are anti regime.
A genuine question and I do believe more fans have had enough of the match hold ups.
I'm not saying this is my personal view.
I agree that the tactics may need to be reviewed. I also think the CARD crew are very capable of reviewing them and adjusting them accordingly.
But is his issue really just "the disruption of football matches"?
He describes CARD as " a handful of agitators bent on bringing the club to its knees" . Do you think CARD people want to bring Charlton Athletic to its knees?
To me he sounds like the Supporters Club chairman in 1985 who was disgusted that I disrupted the meeting with an impertinent question about the move to Selhurst when they had important questions about away travel coach prices to deal with. Maybe it's him:-)
Yes!
On many occasions have I seen the quote of ''let's make the club unmanageable''

If anyone has any issues with how representative or not the sample of 750+ may be, there is an easy answer - that the club do a survey of their own database (not just current season ticket holders).
The Trust survey was obviously going to show that type of result when it's members and those on here were the ones surveyed.
Buy a few clipboards and stand outside the ground on match days and that will give you a much truer reflection on what people really think.

I dont have an issue with his comments, he is entitled to them. He has tangled logic though....on the one hand he is criticising CARD's disruption of the game and on the other he is criticising the boycotters. I'm not convinced that every boycotter is pro CARD and certainly if they were they would come out in much bigger numbers when the planned protests take place.
We have a completely split support base at the moment and that is exactly what I think this particular management team set out to do. Divide and conquer. The end game is football no longer being viable in a stadium more suited to Championship or Premier league football crowds. Forget Target 10K or 20K...they are aiming for Target zero or at the very least a much reduced sized Stadium with tower blocks full of high valued flats close to a mainline railway station 20 minutes from the city...meanwhile the club gets funded by selling off its young up and coming players which will easily offset the severely reduced crowds.....win/win for RD....he may look like a fool and act like one too but mark my words he has a plan.
My guess is that he is an older man who doesn't have access to all of the information we have through the internet etc. and blames the protesters mainly for the fact there is so much unrest at the club.
I think this is not uncommon for the some of the older fans. Maybe we should give them all a copy of GTKTN or some other bits.
And we all know polls are never wrong! You could always go and shop elsewhere. He is the owner, and he will not sell, no matter how many letters of complaint he recieves.
That's a very definite statement. How do you know he will not sell?

I reckon you wrote the article in The Mercury.
I wish I had mate, spot on IMHO!
Crack on and write in. The more people that write in, then maybe they will publish a few, like if a few wrote in to dispute his opinion.

I don't think we do. There are people who have different views about the protests, but there are very few who believe Duchatelet and Meire are good for the club, because the evidence to the contrary is overwhelming. There's also a huge PR effort to pretend that the discontent is about a tiny number of people, but the media aren't buying it because it's obviously counter-factual.
My guess is that he is an older man who doesn't have access to all of the information we have through the internet etc. and blames the protesters mainly for the fact there is so much unrest at the club.

How very condescending and ageist of you!
From what I can see of Mr. Tucker he writes quite a lot of articles for Vital Charlton, so does have access to the Internet and I'm pretty sure would have watched GTKTN!
Not everyone over the age of 70 is tucked up in bed at 6pm you know!

Do only younger people truly understand these things or have valid opinions?
I am a simple chap and see things in a simple way. Why are some happy with a regime that has contempt for its fans (customers) Why are they happy to see sub standard football, with inferior players and managers.

Whilst I agree with the protests and what CARD are doing, this bloke makes a good point - more and more people are becoming 'Anti Card', and whilst I don't agree with them, CARD are going to have to come up with a strategy to reflect this. Chucking stuff onto the pitch seems to have run it's course and with more and more people not wanting to protest, but still wanting RD out, CARD are going to have to do something differently to keep the momentum going. I have total faith they will.

Folks. Gray9 didn't say all old people are against the protests, neither did he say none of them are for the protests. He made an observation that (from my distant outpost) seems to be generally accurate. Older people are less likely to have interest in new media, that is a fact. My 79 year old Father-in-law leaves me trailing several miles in his wake when it comes to computers, it doesn't mean the majority of people in their 8th decade are computer whizzes. Lets cut Gray some slack and get back to the major issues.

He has a son doesn't he?
Yes at least one, Roderick who is the official owner of Ujpest in Budapest. Despite Roderick showing signs that he is a fully paid-up member of the human race, it's not going well there either.
When Roland dies his kids will inherit a fortune. They will do with it as they see fit. I would kind of doubt that Roderick would wish to get even more grief than he does now from football, by taking over here, especially when he has not exactly found the magic formula for football success there. Check the attendances...

my parents are 85 and 82 and both still season ticket holders. They are anti-regime but too old to even join in with 'stand up if you want them out' although my Mum sings along. Although having an ipad and internet access they don't know about much that goes on unless I let them know.
I feel that the great percentage of fans are anti-regime but are fed-up with the match protests as they see them as not being effective because the regime are still here. Maybe we need to go back to some after match protests? I think the opinion is that alternative ways of protesting need to be found and I'm sure that those behind CARD will come up with ideas as to how best do this.
Yes, thanks for volunteering, @Essex_Al. We did collect some hard copy responses as part of a Trust survey in January - very little difference in views. As I've said previously, the club could simply do a survey to its database - that would give the most representative response.

I think this is not uncommon for the some of the older fans. Maybe we should give them all a copy of GTKTN or some other bits.
From what I can see of Mr. Tucker he writes quite a lot of articles for Vital Charlton, so does have access to the Internet and I'm pretty sure would have watched GTKTN!
Not everyone over the age of 70 is tucked up in bed at 6pm you know!
His age is irrelevant.
Why are some happy with a regime that has contempt for its fans (customers)
Why are they happy to see sub standard football, with inferior players and managers.
I sincerely hope you are right!
When Roland dies his kids will inherit a fortune. They will do with it as they see fit. I would kind of doubt that Roderick would wish to get even more grief than he does now from football, by taking over here, especially when he has not exactly found the magic formula for football success there. Check the attendances...
We did collect some hard copy responses as part of a Trust survey in January - very little difference in views.
As I've said previously, the club could simply do a survey to its database - that would give the most representative response.
