  • Is the music taken from an album of covers? If so what is it?
  • The original is by Joni Mitchell, from the album "Blue", perhaps her best, I think. According to Wikipedia, it's been covered 432 times, but I don't know who sings this particular one.
  • Thanks, I know that. It sounds like they all come from the same album though.
  • Can still remember the two goals he got against Chelsea, great player, sometimes a little too good for the others around him.
  • They are all covers but not from the same album, most are YouTube artists. This particular one is Janet Devlin, think she was on X factor a few years ago.
  • Fads strip - fantastic memories.
  • Only saw the little fella once. Side by side Messi would've laced his boots.

    (Slightly biased opinion)
  • Well done Nugs, had the pleasure of watching Simonsen many times for us, unfortunately, the video not long enough to do him justice, not many games shown on TV then, probably one of the most skillful players to ever play for Charlton IMO

These were the 2 games I could find footage of and I remember being at both games as a kid. I'll always remember the Ipswich one as we were 2-1 up with a few minutes to go and my Dad wanted to get away early. Got home to see we'd lost 3-2. That's how I remember it anyway. The Newcastle game was billed as Keegan v Simonsen and a lot was made if it till Keegan pulled out on the day.

    Yet another brilliant gift.

I think that the music has really helped set the scene (as there's a distinct sense of wistfulness, that matches how I feel).

And Janet Devlin was the schoolgirl from Gortin, Co. Tyrone (I would say on X factor, but I don't watch those things), I may have to pay a bit more attention to her career, she is busily working on albums and trying to get success the old-fashioned way, according to the local papers.
  • Once again excellent stuff, Bob Bolder's 'Roley Poley' celebration at the final whistle is hilarious.
  • Great viewing
    Great memories.
The regime can't take them from us

If I could give this multiple likes, I would. I remember coming home from an evening out and 'phoning the BBC to ask if the highlights would to be on the telly, which indeed they were. I've never been so tense watching something on the box.
  • Amazing football... and the Charlton crowd reduced me to tears! It will return when they have gone.

  • Brilliant. Most tense game I've ever been to. I think it still just shades the Wembley play-off in terms of joy at the end
  • Great memories. Some true Charlton legends in that side.

What a night , goosebumps watching that .
I got off coach in Well Hall early on the Saturday morning having , just about , safely returned from St Andrews and I floated down Court Road back to Mottingham . Love it
  • I was too young to go to this but remember being glued to the radio all through the game with my family. After Shirtliff scored the second I ran into the toilet and locked myself in there as I was too nervous to listen to the rest!

Eland Road is one of my few clear memories of standing on a huge terrace and feeling the rush of people but that was a different game, I think it was a cup game when we drew 1-1 if I recall and Minto cleared one off the line whilst lying injured.
  • Proper Charlton players in that team - Bolder, Humphrey, Reid, Miller, Shirtliff, Walsh and the rest.

Just compare them to the dross RD has inflicted on us and weep.
  • I just remember being so proud of my team after that.

I read others posts saying these videos bring a tear to their eye and to be fair I think "oh come on..."
Well, I just joined that group. That one tugged on the heart stings hard. I love that man CP.
  • Robert Lee went down very easily for that free kick : - )
  • Not as quick as we have, great memories.
