I'm not one for elaborate descriptions and detailed tasting notes, but this is spectacular. Cask strength and a huge punch on it, quite raw and rough around the edges, but bloody spectacular nevertheless.
A rare cask of whisky bought for £5000 in 1988 was bought by an expat who forgot about it until Macallan Distillery, Moray, Scotland, called to say that it was still at the warehouse.
It would yield 534 70cl bottles and online bids have already hit £130,000.
Whisky Hammer, the auctioneer, expects it will break the £439,000 record.

Love to try that alongside my 18yo!
Sounds like a good night, a bottle of Single Malt and an 18 year old
Not Whisky, but just got given this American version. Any good?
More or less worked my way through this now, and all the positive comments have been right. Very decent indeed. I am going off some of the inner Hebridean stuff like Laphroaig and Talisker anyway. My dream is a superb (and affordable!) Speyside malt like the stuff produced by Dalmore...only better! Have not tried the King Alexander as it is beyond what I can afford.
So a few days after they get their expensive stuff nicked @Off_it appears on an obscure Internet forum offering a 60 year old for a few quid. Officer! I say Officer!!!!!!!! 🤣
Me and a mate are thinking about buying a cask of Bruichladdich, Caol Ila or something similar, does anyone have any expertise on this?
No expertise but looked into a bruichladdich one myself a few years ago, as they had recently renopened. I think it was about a grand to buy and store for ten years, then about three grand in tax when it came.to bottling. I think you could.sell some back to the distillery to cover costs. Didn't in the end as I didn't want loads of bottles of the same whisky,.but it works out a decent price.
Didn't realise carol ila did it,.but might look into it as they are my favourite
I’ve been really in to American whiskeys/bourbons recently. I’ve tried the usuals, Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam, Makers Mark, Gentleman Jack, Eagle Rare and my current favourite Wild Turkey 101. Anyone have any recommendations?

My favourite go to bourbon is Woodford Reserve.
I'm a lover of rye whisky as well - Bulleit Rye and many of the Sazerac family - although their plain rye is pretty good without having to spend a fortune. I love Rittenhouse ryes as well.

Makers is great but for me you can't go wrong with a Bulleit Bourbon. My favourite go to bourbon.

I sound like a right old soak!!
The standard bullet bourbon makes a great old fashioned and is also usually a very good price on Amazon ... Agree in Woodford reserve too

What a shame. Was only up there a couple of months back. Such nice people running things up there.

I tried a 30yo Brora once. Excellent dram but even at the time (15 years ago) it was way out of my price bracket. I think it was £925 a bottle
It is a bit expensive.
I saw Tovess 12 year old Speyside for sale on Amazon for £25, anybody know if it is any good?
Looks like it’s only available via travel duty free shops tullamore-dew-rouge-launches-into-global-travel-retail such as theloop.ie/
