  • The pictures of him posing with the Range Rover and Jag are embarrassing. He's achieved the square root of fuck all and comes across as someone who thinks he's the next big thing. Time to get rid.
  • Meh... He's one of the generation today - they all do this type of thing at that age these days

Dont really care what he does in his spare time - the fact he's being called upon rather than someone from Rangers says he cant be the worst player at Charlton!!
  • I’m convinced karlan’s problems lie between his ears rather than any lack of footballing ability

    Its called Niclas Bendtner syndrome!!!!
  • Have said this before in a previous discussion; he just isn't good enough for this level at this point in time and unless he is sent out for a long loan period somewhere where he will get game time I fear he could be partnering Mr Pigott at Maidstone or a like team.

Karlan was instrumental in our second goal today with the pressure he put on the MK Dons defender.

    There's a player in there.

He knows where the goal is as has done it for the U23s - Needs to get his mentality right as the goals are no different in terms of size, its just the opposition that are better but so are his team mates
How long ago was that? It's years since he was scoring in youth football, and maybe he was an early developer?
Last season I think; only Brett Brereton (Nottingham Forest starter) had more goals than him

It's difficult to judge, as we don't know how many of the 28 games KAG played to get his 12 goals, but he's only one ahead of Mikhail Kennedy (11) and Umerah got 10 and I'd be surprised if either of them had a long career with us

Everyone laughs at Bendtner but he did actually score a fair few goals for Arsenal in the the Premier League and Europe before going off the boil. KAG's claim to fame is knocking them in for the reserves and gurning like a half wit in front of his new motor. If he's so lacking in self awareness to realise how that goes down he needs someone to slap him on the face and get him to wake up.
  • Not denying that but Bendtner was at one time saying that he was going to be the best player in the world.

Saw him playing for Wolfsburg against Hamburg a couple of years ago and you wouldn't have known he was playing, mind you Du Bruynne also played that night for Wolfsburg and same for him but look at him now.
  • I have been the first to slate KAG as i felt he has had enough chances with the first team and hasn't taken them, it was an encouraging 45 mins last night though

  • Thought he played well, made good runs and put in a few decent crosses. Should have scored that header

An encouraging 15-20 mins I'd say (very encouraging....he was excellent).

But I'd have been tempted to sub him for the last 10.....he was weak and couldn't make a challenge, when we were desperate for someone to get a foot in.

Very true, still played better in the final 25-30 than previous weeks though

As I said on the match thread I have to admit I was really impressed with that effort

A few times beforehand he jumped to try and connect with one of the goal kicks from Amos and every time they easily sailed over his head... Because of that I had a feeling that he'd be useless with any high crosses into the box; I know he was unmarked yet may have done better had there been a bit more power behind the initial cross
  • Get him off the payroll ASAP.
Showed a few signs of talent last night.. too little, too late.
Minimum effort, run less that anyone else even though he had fresh legs.

Hate his attitude, he's scared of battling... DO ONE!
  • I thought he was useless last night, ran around like a headless chicken. Bar a couple of decent crosses he actually done nothing for 45mins..
When i say nothing, I'll give him credit for running away from the ball, ducking out of challenges and giving the ball away.
It is like he is scared to play football.

The recurring issue. How many more opportunities do we need to give him?

  • 'Encouraging' every once in a while isn't enough IMO. He's had a lot of chances to kick on and he simply hasn't. We need players that look like they could play regularly in the Championship - and he doesn't look like someone who could do it for a top League One side.

Classic case of lost confidence, then.
If he's full of anxiety he'll be afraid he'll cock up again.

And he'll be fully aware of what some supporters think of him.
    That won't help.

  • Got to give him credit...

Morgan Fox had to play and mess up before he was issued with the tag of scapegoat
Ahearne-Grant doesnt even need to play these days for people to be able to predict he'll mess up

  • I thought he played ok. He gave us a bit more urgency. But as a forward he is there to score. The header rather summed up his finishing. Either side of the goalkeeper and it was a goal.

Agreed he should have scored but as a Forward he also needs chances created for him to score.

Playing out wide means he's not going to score from there; he also needs to be passed the ball for him to be able to shoot... A few times last night he was right on the shoulder of their Centre-Backs, with Marshall on the ball he only had to thread the ball through to Karlan for him to have a one v one with the Goalkeeper yet chose to shoot himself

Second time Marshall did that; Karlan had dragged the Centre-Backs over to mark him, leaving Marshall with the choice of passing to him or Magennis (who'd been left in the space) - Marshall chose to shoot instead which was a rubbish attempt and got a bashing from Josh shortly after.

My only fault with him last night in the end was what he did when Rochdale had the ball - Seemed to prefer to stand there and watch proceedings (until the last few mins when he moved out wide more); when he was in the middle he seemed happy to wait for the ball whereas Magennis harried and chased them down a bit...

But does he have the goal scorer's instinct?

Neither of JFC's goals were created for him, but he gambled on attacking dangerous areas and it came off

That is the overall question and certainly needs to work on his confidence

At one stage yesterday he hung on the shoulder of the Centre-Back right into the box yet the ball was played behind him so he couldnt do anything other than turn around and watch where it went - Maybe a more intelligent / experienced Striker would have hung back slightly on the penalty spot to wait and see where the ball would go.

Had the cross gone in front of the Defenders then he'd have had time to run on to the ball - Had it gone where it did then he could have either controlled the ball before shooting or having a swing at the ball first time

More than 35 minutes in his preferred position.

His scoring record pre first team would suggest he does.

I think Bob Peeters throwing him in too early affected him badly.

Pardew did the same to Waggy and Parky worked hard to build him up again.
  • Watching him in the 1 on 1 finishing drill before the game, he is by far the best finisher of the lot - such a shame he can't replicate it in a game

There's still a part of me that has faith in him and really wants him to succeed and my fear is that if we discard him then it will be somewhere else that he succeeds.

However, Robinson doesn't seem to rate him too much and he isn't taking the limited opportunities he's getting which makes it hard to argue for more.

I agree that the Instagram stuff with cars etc is annoying, particularly as it's hard to say he's earned any of that yet, but the decision should be made on ability and potenial - he hasn't shown much of the former at L1 level to the extent that we now have to question the latter.
  • If Kag puts in another one or two semi-decent performances I presume they will be the "promoting from the youth team" and negate the board's view that we need another striker

For me, the enigma that is KAG is all down to confidence. From his academy days it is clear he is a natural finisher but has no confidence at first team level.
