Is cook fit to bat0
-
Haven't heard other than at he end of play they said he was only bruised and they would reassess what it looked like in the morning.0
-
Why have we sent in Finn as a nightwatchman? I appreciate Cook hasn't been able to bat yet but it's not as though we're 237 runs behind and trying to bat out the last two days to salvage a draw.
We're 2-0 up in the series which has already been won, we're 237 runs ahead going into Day 4 why on earth do we need a nightwatchman? Why not send in Moeen Ali? And if he gets out to a peach of a delivery it doesn't matter if it's the last ball of Day 3 or the first of Day 4.
If we were 237 behind i'd understand it but we're not so I don't understand it.0 -
It was a shooter and shouldn't happen on a Test Match pitch on the third day. Nothing brilliant about it.North Lower Neil said:Brilliant delivery to get Root.

England say it's the batsman's choice, whether they want a nightwatchman to bat instead of them.MartinCAFC said:Why have we sent in Finn as a nightwatchman? Unfortunately, I can't see any play today and possibly none tomorrow as well.0 -
It was odd, but then England over the years have always liked using night watchmen, unlike most other countries. Maybe the logic was to have Finn in so that when he gets out this morning (touch wood), Cook can then come in to bat with HalesCovered End said:

Or to get Finn to have more practice at being night-watchman for when we play the 'real' teams. Shouldnt change team strategy coz its only SL - else it'd be like Milner not coming on for Rooney.killerandflash said:

A nightwatchman is fine. If we get to bat today, I suspect we will go out swinging as not a lot of play is forcast.0

Athers saying this morning with regard to Joe Root that although No 4 has always been where you bat your best batsman, he believes that Bayliss may want him to push up 1 place because of the problem, and then play Bairstow as a specialist batsman, with Buttler coming back in as keeper.
Therefore, the team could look something like...
Cook
Hales
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Buttler
Ali
Woakes/Wood
Broad
Finn
Jimmy
Thats not a bad team tbh !2 - Sponsored links:

I think Borthwick deserves a go at 3. Root has done brilliantly at 4. Also with Borthwick being able to bowl leg spin too, it gives us an extra dimension when we travel to some dusty pitches this winter.
Also think Woakes has done very well in the last 3 games. Think we may go with Woakes instead of Finn when Stoakes is back. 2 out and out bowlers in Broad and Anderson. 3 all rounders (Stoakes, Ali and Woakes). Then 2 batters that can turn their arms over (Borthwick and Root).
Feel sorry for Butler, but Bairstow has been excellent with the bat.1 -
More likely to have an extra batsman (I think Vince will get another go) than 4 seamers and Stokes.The_President said:Athers saying this morning with regard to Joe Root that although No 4 has always been where you bat your best batsman, he believes that Bayliss may want him to push up 1 place because of the problem, and then play Bairstow as a specialist batsman, with Buttler coming back in as keeper.

In a way, when it pissed down this morning, as least you knew where you stood, whereas the on and off showers in the afternoon were really annoying!1 -
We have some play and Jimmy makes the breakthrough.
45-1.
Silva didn't pick the inswinger, didn't offer a stroke and was plumb in front lbw.
Let's hope the weather behaves itself.0 -

That's a strong batting line-up - nice to see that they are trying to accommodate JB (Jonny Bairstow) as well as JB (Jos Buttler), needed to happen based on Jonny's batting prowess and development this season - also shows that they believe Buttler to be a better keeper than Bairstow ! - though doing both jobs in Test matches has proved troublesome in past.0
