    Reflecting on Tests,
The fine margins of the mind,
    The ebb and the flow.

Poxy guardian cricket ball by ball commentator not only said he had no idea what a haiku was but also then when presumably loads of guardian obo readers deluged him with links to explanations, he declared he thought all poetry was more boring than sigur ros and he didn't give a shit.

    The yoof of today.

Now it's been a while since my most productive haiku period and I had to remind myself of the syllable rules. It's 5-7-5 syllables on 3 lines as per the example above.

There is no place for Bell in the future of the England team. You play your best batsman at 3, Root. Keep Vince for now, Bairstow can move up to 5
and Butler can play as No.6.
I was there today and I have a very red face.

If he's scoring runs freely then why shouldnt he be back in the side? - its not as if we have a plethora of no 3's is it?
Also, Root has been magnificent at 4 - absolute madness to move him up the order - your best batter should always go in at 4.
Not sure that I agree with that at all.

Ponting for Australia, was their best player and played the vast majority of his cricket at number three.

Similarly for India, Dravid batted at three for a number of years.

I have heard Michael Vaughan talk about before, how the best players want to bat at three as it gives them the chance to set the tempo for the rest of the innings, as well of course of facing the maximum amount of deliveries.
Great player, but not as good as Tendulkar who would go in behind him. Dravid was the more defensive player of the 2, which is maybe why they preferred him at 3.

It's debatable whether Root should be 3 or 4. He's not actually made that many runs this series, so it might be a risk moving him up the order?
Heresy, but I actually think Dravid was better than Tendulkar. Played more vital innings anyway. But if you have a middle order including Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman, Ganguly... you are in a good position.
  • KP, Kallis, Lara, Tendulkar ... I think Root is fine where he is.

Cook, Hales, Borthwick, Root, Bairstow, Stokes, Ali, Woakes, Broad, Finn, Anderson

Bairstow is in the form of his life and is wasted trying to save an innings with the tail.

Woakes is in great form and has taken this opportunity well. Hats off to him but he deserves his place. It solidifies the bowling as well with 5 perfectly adequate seamers which we may need in conditions less favorable to the bowlers than our own.

Vince doesn't do it for me, averages 50 in Div 2 but only 30 in Div 1.

    Compton is shot.

Borthwick is scoring big runs and is the next cab off the rank. Also gives us a leg spin option if we're desperate.

Hales keeps his place as he's averaging 49 in this series. Would love to see him find a tempo that suits him in Test Cricket. If DBD continues scoring the runs he is then he could be next in line if Hales can't kick on.

The rest almost pick themselves although Ball/Wood will be knocking on the door for Finn's place.

Great effort from Bairstow. Really is developing in to a fine test player.

Would imagine someone like Westley would be in front of DBD to be honest.

I think it will be a long day for the England bowlers unless the conditions change dramatically

Nothing I have seen of Compton suggests he is a Test Match player. His form this season is atrocious. I would like to see Borthwick given a chance.
