Everything agreed press release planned for tomorrow but Charlton wanted it sorted today but Wilder wanted to see the other options before deciding , so Charlton pulled the plug .....
IF that was true, which seeing it is you is very unlikely, that makes Charlton look even more stupid. Couldn't wait 24 hours for the man they wanted.
Or is it more likely Wilder didn't get the assurances he wanted in writing so said no.
Ketts posted on CAFC Picks "Wilder lives in Sheffield, played for United & is a Blades fan, the Brammall Lane gig is his dream job. He could have written his own contract with us, once the Blades made their interest known, we were in trouble"
Well, 47 pages in now and so far I've kept my own counsel ( for a change)
I've sat back with my feet up, cuppa in my hand and a packet of Jammy Dodgers dwindling away by the minute.
Having had my heart broken for the 2nd time in 2 years by that honourable man from Belgium ( yes, there is one! ) I've watched the day unfold before me with increasing disbelief and maybe a soupcon of mirth.
It would appear that one of my favourite phrases has to be trundled out extra early this year.....with NO question as to who's playing the Ugly Sisters.
What puzzles me above all else is why the feck would ANYONE believe one word that emanates from the mouths of the Terrible Two ( and that goes for a few Lifers too) Haven't you learned any lessons over the past 2.5 years ?
Clueless. Losers. Blinkered. Arrogant. Disrespectful. Liars. Deceitful. All words that we, the faithful can seriously attribute to the regime. And, I think many of the staff at our club, outside of the SMT, would agree.
And now, thanks to their inability to tell the truth, the media have yet another story of incompetence to cascade to all & sundry remotely interested in the football world. Crossing your fingers behind your backs when failing to tell the truth , the whole truth & nothing but the truth really doesn't excuse you, guys....
So, once again, Charlton Athletic is held up for all to see as a prime example of a respected football club that has rapidly become a laughing stock, a joke and it has to stop now ! NO manager with an iota of self respect would surely be coaxed along to an interview in SE7. Few players of any substance would consider wending their way to a club where managers dance the hokey cokey every few months.
But this is a club ripe for a takeover NOW.
And we have to do everything we can to make this happen....to convince RD that this is the only way for him to preserve his dignity & even his reputation. And to ensure that a suitable manager with suitable players on board are in place for pre season and a concerted push for promotion next season.
The more I think about it, the more I am extremely glad that Wilder turned us down. It's not that I don't want us to have a proper English manager, especially one who's riding on the back of a recent success. It's not that I crave uncertainty or instability. And it's not just because I harbour spiteful feelings towards the regime (though I do admit, there is a little something in that last one). The real reason I'm glad is because I honestly don't believe we will be a proper functioning football club until Two Shats sells up.
I was amazed at how easily a large number of lifers started talking positively about getting Wilder in. Despite all that's happened in the past two years, it seems there are still quite a few amongst us who are (or at least, were) prepared to cut the regime some slack. As far as I am concerned, that would be the worst thing we could do. As long as they are with us, the best we can possibly hope for is stagnation; the worst is unthinkable. In the short term, not getting a proper manager may prove very uncomfortable, however our club is very sick and it is only the most unpalatable medicine that will get us on the right track. There is no room for doubt here. The regime is wrecking our club and we need to ensure that each of us is committed to getting rid of them. I applaud every coach and every player that turns Charlton down. Every one of them is another little chip out of the Duchatelet monolith. One day we will get rid of him, the regime's inability to recruit competent people may prove to be a great help in that.

The frightening, and I mean really frightening, thing about this is there will still be supporters, sorry customers, who will say he really has changed and did go after a British manager.
Really? Even if he'd been appointed, I don't think a manager who'd just won League Two and never coached above that level would have impressed that many.
Given what Rich Cawley and Large have said, I think it's clear they genuinely wanted CW. I'm genuinely curious to know how many not on here or on Twitter had even heard of him. If you were going for a publicity stunt, why go with Chris Wilder?
No shadow of a doubt they wanted him and thought they had got him. I also think Wilder was very keen to come. Then he met Katrien. What could go wrong?
I was talking to a mate last night who is a big Everton fan and isn't across all the finer details of our situation. His response to it all? 'What does this Roland guy want? Why did he buy Charlton just to run it into the ground?'

I thought I was the only one that felt somewhat glad that he turned us down. It was a really strange reaction from me when I read that news this morning I must admit. I'm not even sure if I'm able to feel angry anymore about our situation now. I just hope something extremely bad happens to RD and he's forced to sell us up.
Be great if Wilder came out and said that it's because they weren't prepared to give him full control of footballing matters that he turned them down. I know it doesn't work like that and these things are never disclosed, but it would be sweet just to see it come out in the open
I've no doubt the damage is done as word will spread anyway, but would be great to read and yet another disaster for RD
I'm pretty certain we're gonna have a summer like Blackpool did year before last. We will be massively exposed come July. The worst thing is likely repeating what Blackpool did this season

Most of me feels exactly like @Stig describes. It's another blow to the Duchatelet regime.
But there's still a little bit of me that wanted a credible British manager with a decent track record that, most importantly, would have been given the kind of control that would have signified some softening of the Duchatelet approach. It was forlorn hope, but that is better than no hope at all and that's why some people were quick to seize on the news like a drowning man seizes a lifebelt.
I agree @Davo55. A part of me had faint hope that maybe, just maybe Duchatelet may had admitted failure and had come round to our way of thinking. The cynic in me feels they never really wanted Wilder and have used him to say 'Well, we tried, but here's Nobby.'
This latest shambles, probably the worst yet, makes both Duchatelet’s and especially Katrien Meire's position untenable. I genuinely don't know how many more embarrassing mistakes she's allowed to make before she gets the sack.

How many times have we said this?! Untenable in our eyes most definitely but when oh when will RM/KM get it?
I think Swiss Tony handed all the firearms given up and deposited in the amnesty bins to KM. Now she/they have all the ammunition necessary to keep firing shots into her/their own feet.

Jessie, you definitely were not the only one! I am glad that Wilder turned us down because I don't want the regime to change (little chance of that as it looks to have turned out!), I want them to sell up and die.

And good luck in your next proper job in your home town.
'We don't have one right now because Riga resigned and Wilder has turned us down.'
'Oh, how are we going to play out next game then?'
'Well it's not until August'
'Yes dad. I'm worried about the team for next year. We will still have Lookman won't we?'
'Um no, we may have Solly and Jackson but I'm not sure even about that.'
'Oh. That's not good dad.'

WE know it makes sense.
How can Roland believe anything to the contrary ?
Can't find relegation odds yet
If most the money was laid on Wilder, then he'll still be favourite until he's 100% ruled out, if not much money is being laid on anyone else.

I know someone will step in but this would be a perfect scenario to up the ante on RD
Endless embarrassment.
