The POTY evening will be interesting with all the players having scripted answers to fans questions. ' We love playing for Charlton , it is a unique experience '.' We love Katrien , everyone is so professional here , the people that run the club really know what they are doing '. ' Roland is a our great leader , he sees every game '. ' We love that sofa ' .
'What time does the film start?', 'what a lovely restaurant'
The more I think about this, the more odd it sounds. Isn't Riga supposed to be the guy who hears what the ownership says about who should and shouldn't play and ignores it? Didn't he refuse to play Thuram and Nego and the other Network chuff and stick with the Powell players last time he was here? And going by his most recent interview he sounds like he knows his number's up and has obliquely criticised the ownership. So why the hell would he suddenly drop two of our best and most influential players - the captain and vice-captain - just because the nasty man tells him to? It doesn't make any sense
My thinking as well. If he was told this, then holding him at his word that would be an automatic "no" for him staying next year, so why listen? Furthermore, I struggle to see Jackson starting ahead of Diarra.
Anyway, doubt we'll have to wait too long to find out.
How can any sane Charlton fan continue to support this vindictive, single-minded regime? Are some supporters just cocooned away from the reality of what's happening at Charlton? We now know that many of the players are as pissed of as we are, yet still people renew season tickets, drink and eat inside the ground, spend money in the club shop and are mildly outraged at the various protests taking place.
The players will know they haven't performed to the best of their abilities this year but in many ways football is no different to other businesses and you get better results under a good management team. They're in a difficult position, and all credit to some of them for speaking candidly last week, as they could run the risk of their lucrative contracts being terminated if they don't act in accordance with management policy, disclose confidential information or even speak out against their bosses.
It's possible that Chris and JJ would not get a position that pays as well as they are at Charlton, Solly due to his knees, allegedly, and JJ due to age, so they may have to be a bit careful in what they say in the future but it'll be interesting to see what Stephen Henderson might say when he's snapped up by a Championship club in the close season.
You know, of all the things they've done it's the news about Solly that's made me the angriest. Can't wait for the day they're gone from our club.
What is there for the Trust to talk about ? The Solly treatment is the final nail in the coffin. Meire is an open ulcerated wound at the club and daily evidence in what's going wrong at Charlton Athletic. At the same time they want to talk us about how to improve things at the club whilst simaltaneously treating great club servants like Solly and Jackson like this. What is the point ?
Instead of lashing out to anyone who criticises this toxic regieme and the rubbish way she is doing things, Meire should be looking to herself to learn and do better. Absolutely no sign of that. How she has the brass neck to continue in the job is beyond me and how Duchatelet still leaves her as CEO shows that he is not interested in improving or changing anything at Charlton Athletic.
Can this lot possibly sink any lower?..If any charlton fans were in any doubt, this surely would sway them. People say, that they have seen worse, but I have supported since the mid sixties, and I certainly haven't. .. That woman is so out of her depth...

I agree with this. It is difficult to select the most appalling bit of behaviour by this regime, the overall concept of player churn mattering more than results is encapsulated by their treatment of Chris Solly
Someone is bound to come here and say players have always been commodities, but behind their backs?
Whatever people think about Chris as a player (I think he is a very good one) if this regime were half as dedicated, or as able as Chris is when doing their jobs, we wouldn't be in this mess.
For anybody who doubts the contempt Roland, Katrien, Joynes and Keohane feel towards the fans, then the contemptible way they have treated Chris Solly should be a convincer.
I wonder if people still think that Chris Solly isn't Captain material.
Yes he's not the most vocal on the pitch yet the Captain shouldnt have to encourage his team mates during a game as they should be able to do it themselves... From this it clearly shows as though he's more than vocal off the pitch!!

Riga, like the players, is an employee. If the appropriate person in the hierarchy above Riga (probably only smirkface or twoshits) suspends Solly and Jackson, Riga doesn't have the power to play them, all he can do is walk if he thinks his position is untenable. If he tried to pick them, security could be asked to remove them from the premises.

I still have doubts about him as vice-captain, which means he ends up captaining the side fairly often. It's not so much that he isn't vocal, I think that's overrated, but there was a stretch where his form seemed to dip after becoming captain regularly. More than that, though, is that when Jordan has worn the armband it seems to really galvanize him, and Diarra is a natural leader. Were I picking captains today, I'd have the two of them above Solly, more down to their attributes than Solly lacking something.

Know what you mean... I used to hate seeing Morrison as Captain not because he wasnt vocal but because his form dipped so frustratingly!!
All credit to Solly and Jackson - might I suggest that all players who wish to express solidarity with the fans go and sit in the goal mouth at the Covered End at the end of the Burnley game (or at some other designated place) - I very much doubt that sitting down could be seen as a breach of contract.
CARD. Any chance of thousands of Jacko and Solly masks to be worn as support for them both and as a FURTHER signal to the associated wankers that we hate them? Could even get some worn in the Burnley end!

Surely if we're going to imitate Solly we're all going to have to go down on our knees.
And if that happens there will be plenty of us struggling to get back up
Another example of how out of touch she is, Meire had been advocating playing the final home games behind closed doors.
I'm sure season ticket holders will be well pleased with that. She wouldn't dare - that's like admitting defeat and don't forget they don't do failure.
In all seriousness, Meire and Murray must be down to the last dozen or so people at The Valley that have any time for them. They have alienated everyone else either by the words, actions or laziness.
If the report is true - and it seems that most bizarre rumours involving Charlton are these days - then it doesn't say much for Jose Riga that he allowed this. Either he is in thrall to the regime, as many have suspected, or he is so desperate to keep his job he'll agree to anything, or he has given up as he knows he will be gone within a fortnight. If he does stay then his credibility is shot if he has accepted this situation. I suspect we will know the story sooner rather than later given the mass summer exodus will allow those currently employed by the club to speak.

Exactly if he had any bollocks he'd have played them if this is true. What on earth could she have done if they ran out on the pitch?

I sincerely think that would beat anything CARD could organise - no disrespect to them - but the significance of an end-of-season match in an empty stadium?
They have probably been warned and pressured by the league, by the police and by Burnley that Charlton Athletic is failing to control events.
They have thrown money at it judging by the forces of police and blue jackets we have been seeing increasing, and it isn't working.
So to avoid risk and censure, and to save on operating costs, thinks Katrien, have it behind closed doors, a replayed match would have to be behind closed doors anyway she is probably saying to herself.
We can screen it live on youtube or something to indicate our love and respect for the real fans, so nobody misses out is probably the logic. let them eat cake.
Go on then. I very dare you. Behind closed doors. Do it.
Maybe Riga knows more about what is going on behind the scenes than we do. If he thought that the regime was crumbling and that a new owner may be taking over before next season, he may just be happy to put up with their crazy demands for a few more weeks, in the hope that he will still be here and can then work for the new owners.

This is one of the most disturbing aspects of Meire's behaviour for me in this whole Solly charade. Not just stitching up Chris Solly, but was Riga even aware that Solly was going to be shipped off to Gillingham then sold? Had Meire done this behind Riga's back too? Riga is either complicit in it or Meire is deceiving her own head coach.
What had she told Gillingham when the loan deal was agreed? Would Gillingham agree to loan a player where that player had no knowledge of the deal or given their consent. Had Meire lied to Gillingham too?

I can safely predict she would have grinned and shaken her head.

I know it's not going to happen, but if Squirrel Face threw a wobbler, would she be allowed to play the game behind closed doors? Surely league rules are that, baring a league-imposed ban, away fans must be allowed into a match. And I would suspect same applies to home fans, unless she banned us all. And what about season tickets? Wouldn't they all be entitled to a refund if it was a club-imposed stadium closure?
Shows how bad things have become and how little regard anyone has for her that this idea even surfaced.
Just imagine if she tried to ban us from the ground many fought so hard to get back to ...

Be interesting to see if they are captain and vice captain next season.
Posted on the sponsor's dinner thread but perhaps better off here- This story about Solly is astonishing. If true, for me, it is up there with selling Yann and sacking SCP. It does bother me though that the story appears to originate from a Gillingham player with previous rumours or asides that there was a senior player hawked around for loaning out. The validity of the story is important because it may be that Solly was disciplined or dropped for what some posters imply he said at the dinner, which is wrong true or not. If he was treated this way and it can be verified then I am sure that even the wavering supporters will up their game to ensure that the regime fucks off. Protest indeed but definitely do not line Roland’s pockets any further!
