Best and worst away days

  • Worst. Stevenage. Lowest moment supporting Charlton going to that no hope town. It was so upsetting to know we were in the same league as Stevenage. and we lost. Roland is making it his mission for us to play them again.

Best. Forest cos Nottingham is a decent place to visit.

Lowest moment supporting Charlton was losing at Stevenage... Seriously?

That was our first lose of that season and defeat at Dagenham the season before was much worse
  • Wolves deserves a mention in the worst category. Is their a single decent pub in that city? Is their a single decent anything in that city for that matter?

As for best ones, gutted that we have once again managed to miss out on a trip to Newcastle while they're roughing it in the second tier.

Morrison played RB that day if memory serves be correctly?

He did. And Lawrie Wilson had a superb game as a wing back for Stevenage.
  • Was just a 1-0 defeat wasnt it... a horrible Stacey Long deflection?

Was more frustrating because we'd just beaten Sheffield United 2-0
  • Best for the day out it was - St George's day at Norwich in The Complete Angler by the river

Worst (for disappointment) - losing to Sheffield United in the cup

I've not done a great deal of aways and come to think of it I must be a bit of a jinx as I've only see us get one result - Plymouth away with 10 men.
  • Worst - Where do I start, the 4-0 Millwall stands out, but the cup games at boro and sheff u are also dreary and miserable, palace away when we lost 2-1 after absoilutely bossing the 1st half sticks out,

Best aways - Carlisle obviously, palace when toddy scored was fun, Chelsea when we beat morinhos side in the cup was a lot of fun too

Bastards wouldnt have gone up had the linesman not ruled BWP offside at the Valley or had we held on for three points that day
  • Worst: Sheffield United QF.

    Best: Barnsley 6-0.

That BWP goal was playing through my head the other day, if those results had reversed it could have been us instead of them, cash would never have pulled the plug and we would never have met Roland......

still, Bury away will be nice

  • My favourite will always be Coventry away in the FA Cup, if only because of the fat little f****r who was giving it so large at 2-0, and was ready to kill me and my mate at 2-3. So satisfying. Loved that game. Got back to the local at home, had a few jars and got invited back to a wicked party that included the Tyson/ Francis fight. A good day all round.

    Worst... first game without March51.
  • Best Newcastle 3-4 / Barnsley0-6

    Worst Colchester was pretty low
  • Palice 2004 was not bad.

Worst? Possibly any Yeovil game, hard to get to by train and a dreadful town.
  • Best or at least most memorable, 1986 at Carlisle. I like going to Orient and Southend too for some reason, and I really like Norwich as an away day. Shrewsbury's old ground was a lovely old place too.

Worst was the Old Den, absolute shit hole....but nothing compared to Selhurst for what was it? 5 sodding years. Honourable mention too to the old Dell and Highfield Road.
  • Worst, 7-1 at Luton.
    Best, any palace or Pompey.
  • BEST: Bury, Ridiculously cheep to drink there, Black pudding and mustard rolls from Bury Market, there is even some steam train museum/pub combo thing going on there. Back of the net.

Watching 7 goals go past us at Burnley then 6 at both Luton and Brighton ....

    Being chased down Regent Street
All fun being a football fan

The reason why it was the worst for me was because I couldn't believe we were playing on level terms with Stevenage. And the town itself heightened that feeling of depression.
I know you have no right in saying we're too big to be playing these teams but I can't help it. Stevenage the town, the football club and even some of the supporters really made me feel as if we've hit close to rock bottom.
  • Think Roland is taking rock bottom to a new level, I know that sounds wrong.
  • Fav ground - the Goldstone (dunno why - just liked it - sadly missed)

Hated ground - the Dell - worst f'ing away section ever and just a shite ground with tossers for fans

Both on the south coast ironically !!!

Bury is one of my favourite away days as well.

The train museum was the deal breaker.

    Agree about the Goldstone

    Has to be Dagenham defeat.

Best Play off final at St ANDREWS v LEEDS.
  • Worst: Any Millwall trip

Favourite: Always quite liked Oxford (Manor Ground), Maine Road was also a proper ground, albeit in a horrible part of Manchester
  • Specific matches.

    Worst - Millwall 4-0

Best - Coventry in the cup at Highfield road. Was only young but remember it so well. Great old fashioned ground.
  • Best - 2-0 win at Palace when Ray Treacy scored in the Cup.

Worst - 5-0 defeat at Swindon.
  • Tranmere is a horrible ground too...

Dont know if it was just a cold / windy day but was freezing there when we drew 1-1 in our League One year.

Tranmere though gets bonus points for having a pub opposite the away turnstiles.

Both Nottingham clubs are good days out. Exeter was fun as well, nice town and terrace.
  • So a couple that haven't been mentioned.

Best; Pompey away FA Cup 3-0. I was at Poly there so was able to lord it all around the town in front of my goby Pompey mates

Worst: that West Brom cup tie in shite weather must be up there. Mind you I thought Ipswich away last season was shite all round too, but mainly for reasons that most of you would say are just part of the modern experience (standing all the way there, pub closed after the game, etc)

    Good call re West Brom.
Northwich in the cup was a real low point as well. Player wise we had so much dross on display that day.
