Charlton Season Tickets

  • They will hold off until the latest possible moment - cashflow is not such a big issue for them as it was for the previous owners. RD is reportedly already writing a cheque for £1m each month to keep us afloat.

In reality, the sooner we are relegated, the better for their planning - they will announce super-cheap ST's and ramp up the matchday prices. You can expect to see lots of deals for the kids ST, and an extension of the £150 adult ST elsewhere in the ground.

As for matchday, I predict the cheapest ticket will be over £30, so in reality the ST will be the equivalent of paying for 5 or so matches on the day.

When you think about the teams in L1 next year, there will only be a handful of decent games and at these prices we will probably sell 6000 ish ST's - and they will give plenty away free on top of that.

Home gates will be between 8-10k - depending on team performance and match by match giveaways.
The team itself will be fairly decimated, and I expect a dozen new names (that I can't pronounce), who will have little or no experience of English football, and there is a chance we will hover around the bottom of L1.

Young players who come into the side ( just like Paul Walsh, Paul / Rob Eliott, Gomez/ Shelvey / Parker etc did) will only be thinking about getting a move to a "bigger" club - and not thinking about getting us into the Prem.

Nothing will change while this regime has control.
When RD is bored with us, then he will do whatever to recover his funds and go.
Lord knows what state we will be in when that time eventually comes.
  • When I spoke to Mick Everett before Christmas about Target 20k - at the stage the club was planning to have people with experience on it instead of a focus group format - he was keen to have very cheap season tickets in the lower north, instead of in the wing blocks of other stands, where they obviously make no sense. This is something we tried before without success, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that idea resurface.

Being season tickets, they have no bearing on away pricing. However, whether people want to sit there is another matter.
  • I'm surprised they're not going to trying do a deal where you can buy a ticket now and it'll will be frozen at Championship (last seasons) prices if we survive... the longer they take to do that, the more chance we'll be all but mathematically down before they're released and they'll be forced to sell at League One prices
  • Either way if what Roland said last week is true (i.e. We're not planning for Relegation at the moment), they cant be thinking about Season Ticket prices because the two surely go hand in hand?

There's no scope for any across-the-board price increases whether we stay up or not. They will want to come out with prices for the Reading game, however, because in marketing terms it would normally fit with both Football for a Fiver and the timing, i.e. to set a deadline after many people's March payday with enough time to plan.

Oh god yes... Forgot about Football For a Fiver, no doubt the two will be timed together so that more people see the ticket prices
  • Never say never but as of today an emphatic 'NO' to renewing.
  • If you buy a season ticket next year you will have no excuse when CAFC goes into administration when they leave us in a mess!

The BLAME will be on you!

Dontate the money saved to the protest fund, so that we can save for possible administration!
  • I won't buy even if they are £50 but I do think they will make them really cheap and if they had any sense they would do away with early bird prices because even if people do renew I think a lot will wait until near the end of the close season to see what happens with player recruitment and who is appointed Manager.
  • Roland is worth about £500m... Yes the Charlton debt is around £50m but the only way we'd go into Administration is if we got another Jiminez type owner come in who then ran us into the ground

See Rangers FC :) many fans said the same!

£50mill is not rollands debt it is CAFC debt payable to strapix or whatever the company is called!

What makes you think he will write this off when he leaves?
  • I will almost certainly renew. I go to all the games, so I'll be giving the regime, more money by paying on the day and also the massive inconvenience of having to buy them every game. I also sit with 3 others, who will likely do the same.

No need to sit with them now, you can pretty much have a stand each !

I have a feeling they will already be preparing for a boycott. This makes me think they may come up with some crazy, half baked idea regarding ticketing for next season....not sure what, but they are the sort of people who would not think twice about implementing some new ticketing structure that perhaps forced fans into buying a season ticket.......first club not to sell tickets on match day, or match day tickets to be an additional £5 or £10 with a proportion going to charity or community programme or something with a bit of a sting in its tail, meaning for many, they will feel they have to buy a season ticket.

We are already the cheapest club in London to support, they know numbers will be lower, and therefore I do not see them reducing ticket prices as an incentive.

I just have this feeling when news of season tickets is released, we will realise exactly what they're up to if you know what I mean.

Why tell them what to do?

You do know that medals arent handed out when they leave for "loyal" supporters? and you will never beat SEB anyway :)

on a serious note - i would be intrested why you wont boycott?

Not necessarily. There are both administration (where an administrator attempts to find a buyer on the basis that the business is or can be a "going concern") and liquidation (or winding up as it's otherwise known) on a voluntary basis where the owner(s) just decide they have had enough. They are both though quite unappealing as they fail to attract maximum value for any assets in a fire sale scenario and have significant costs attached in the fees for the administrator/liquidator.
But it's entirely possible to imagine a scenario where the ancient owner dies and his inheritors decide they want nothing to do with football.
  • I will most probably renew. I've sat in the same seat for more than 20 years. Sat there with my friends, my family, my dad before he died. Is it 'weird' of me to develop an emotional attachment to an uncomfortable hard plastic seat that doesn't even belong to me? I suppose it is, but these Belgian fucksters are counting on it and I hate them for it.

Do you get annoyed at the thought of someone else sitting in your seat when your not there or even finding someone else in your seat when you get to the Ground or when you come back from the toilet.

I know it does me and like you say it is a bit weird because its just a hard plastic seat that can be really cold and uncomfortable
  • In one respect I do envy people that are able to just detach themselves from Charlton after a poor performance

Years of practice I reckon mate.

Yes, I'm not keen on it even when I've lent my ticket to someone - that I like, never mind random strangers sitting there!!

I guess I also live with the opinion of... It could be worse

(Even if I broke every bone in my body but one I'd still come on here and go... at least I didnt break that one)

At the same time though dont ever tell me its just a game, one of my mates who hates football said it to me when we went 3-3 against Carlisle and then again when we went 4-3 up (Think Benson got that winner)... I turned him to stone with the look I gave him when I'd calmed down

I wont boycott because I've nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon... Going to watch the eleven Charlton players on the pitch @ 3pm is so ingrained on me now its just habit that I enjoy doing...

I guess I still enjoy doing that because I try to block out what happens at Boardroom level, I'm not privy to any inside information into what goes on, I'm certainly not clever enough to understand everything that goes on and how to change it.

Until something effects me personally I don't let it worry me, if I dont have control over something I dont let it worry me... Its just how I live my life
Fair enough! have you thought about if your money is going towards killing CAFC?

What will you do if the club no longer exists?

It has happened to clubs in the past.

also i disagree that it is out of your control! i would say actions speak louder than inaction, wouldnt you?
  • You could say though that by not putting my money towards CAFC I'm also killing it.

Clubs like Darlington / Scarborough lost fans, there was no financial backer to take over the club because there was no profit in it for anyone else so the club just wasted away... Who can tell at this stage that my approach or yours is the right one.

If the club from 1905 no longer exists I'll see if a new Charlton Athletic is formed in the style of AFC Wimbledon and follow that Charlton.

Its been a long time now since that has happened

THIS is a REAL quandary for me as I've always gone to football with my Dad since about the age of 5, it's something we've always done together & something I will always cherish, but now thanks to this poisonous regime our Charlton days could very well be over. I certainly do not want to give my hard-earned cash to RD whereas my elderly Dad who lives just around the corner from the ground doesn't have the same passionate hatred I have for this regime.

Saturday's will never be the same where I travel up by car from Kent, have lunch at my Dad's before we set off for our short walk to The Valley, do I give this up if my Dad decides to purchase a season ticket ? I'd like RD to know just how upsetting I'm finding all this, he's ruining a lifelong tradition between a Daughter & her Dad & for that I'd like to let him know JUST what I think of him but I also know he doesn't give a damn & that's what hurts the most - Cheers RD !!

    Typical customer reaction.
  • I do understand where your coming from @C4FC4L1f3...

I've suffered redundancy once in life and have been at the consultation stage on about five occasions, its almost a game of risk... You know your job is under threat yet your dealt with two hands, (1) You stick with the job and hope your safe (2) You jump ship and take a new job because then at least you wont be out of work.

On each occasion I took Option.1 and got burnt once

Again its like playing chicken with cars (I used this the other day to describe Roland's strategy)... Do you keep running across the road shortening the gap between you and the approaching car each time or do you collect what pride you have and just walk away?

Life is never easy and we'll have moments (tougher ones no doubt) like this hounding us every step of our way to our death beds.

I guess in a way I'm stubborn... Part of me still thinks we may see success under this regime (Note I'd see even winning League Two as a success) because I've seen win the Championship and I've seen us win League One, both times the feeling was just amazing and dont know how I'd feel inside if I missed one of those moments
