  • Well, he did invest a fortune. I liked his frankness in the shareholder's AGMs I attended but his Diawara blunder, his mismanagement of post-Curbs
and the sale to those two clowns reduced my sympathy. He's only on the board to recoup some of his money and knows he'll get zilch if we go down.
Since last week's RD interview, I have an extra grudge against Murray. By attending games and meetings with Pinocchio he cannot have missed the fact she was obviously not fit for the job. But to her credit,, she was doing what her excentric and certainly daft boss had asked her to do. Murray should have stopped playing into their hands and reacted.
No, Murray is not our enemy. He's just weak. And stupid - why this spite against Peter Varney?

What do I put you down as? I do want to misrepresent, and this thread is effectively a poll.

He's Charlton through and through, so friend, even if he's made lots of mistakes in the last few years. Maybe he is reluctant to criticise because he is aware of the mistakes he made post Curbishley?
    Apart from when supporting Wolves?

    Enemy.
Is that true ? If so I never knew he supported another club - you learn something new every day !!
Ahem.....I've only mentioned it 338 times..........

    ;-)
  • 339 now.......
  • Is he still doing his annual May gig at @Bromley Addicks ?
  • Is he still doing his annual May gig at @Bromley Addicks ?

Has not done it for the past 2 seasons
  • ......probably on the same night as wwfc player wards evening. ........
  • I have decide he is just a poor RD, got no idea how to run a club and now only in it to get his cash back.
Was lucky at the start and had good people around him, now he just keeps backing losers, talks as much shit as Pinnochio and is set to become one of the most hated figures in our history and that's going some.
  • My enemy's friend is my enemy.
  • Enemy. Sorry Richard, you chose whose side you wanted to be on. Once you done that I lost all respect for you. How can you see what has been done to our club and stick up for the senile old tosser and his lying sidekick is beyond the pale.

  • Enemy. The 'it's just a message board thing' delivered in as smug a tone as his Belgian bedfellows was the final straw.

Fair view actually. Murray has known Duchatelet since 2008 and possibly 2006, back to when we were in a short lived (and ultimately pointless) voluntary network of clubs that involved the now defunct Germinal Beerschot (owned at the time by Roderick Duchatelet, son of and now in charge at Ujpest). His record includes the disastrous dicking around with Les Reed in 2006, which relegated us from the Premiership the panicky stripping out of every pound, penny and player from the club in 2007 and 2008 and the fire sale to Jimenez in 2010.

I'm not sure why Murray is still here? Does he have shares in the club at present, or, is he retained as a fan friendly figurehead? He wants to recover his money from Charlton - fair enough. But he could do this by having a contract with RD and any future owners that entitles him to repayment on an as and when basis.

It might have been better to have had a different person in Murray's current role. Some kind of media figure/sporting figure with strong local connections and credibility who supports the club and advise against obvious faux pas. I would have suggest Derek Ufton, but he's knocking on a bit now. Keith Peacock? Billy Bonds?
  • His school playground spat with "The Orange One" resulted in him appointing Dowie as manager. To compound that fatal error, he gave him £12 million to spunk. The rest is history. a tosser for years, and his support of the current regime reinforces that.
  • Fairly strong pattern emerging here. Do yourself a favour Richard, throw the towel in on this lot and retire gracefully.
  • Anakin Murray
  • Never knew that @simonmatthews , thanks.
    Would explain a lot. .......

    Thank you.

PS. Was in Belguim and Holland for the friendlys, 2-2 draw at Utrecht if I remember correctly ?
  • Richard Murray Part 1= Hero
Richard Murray part 2= Poor judgement with mistake after mistake.
Richard Murray Part 3= Zero; Backing the wrong team and now have become a sad and dishonest character in the eye of many fans.

A man who let his feud with Simon Jordon, and his fall out With Peter Varney affect what is best for CAFC.

That is unforgivable. Why Richard Why ?

You care about your own Ego more
than Charlton or your own bank balance ?

    WHY ?

Has Murray ever mentioned the fact that him and Duchatelet are old buddies?

I think it's unlikely. There's a connection there, but Murray wouldn't have got involved with these clubs and whoever made the connection probably wouldn't have met Duchatelet.
  • Okay, let's ask the question everyone is skirting around.....

Richard Murray. What is your arguement with Peter Varney.
And, why, let it ruining any goodwill you had at CAFC ?

He's much like a tin pot dictator in a third-world country. Might have started with great intentions and made a difference, but has hung around way too long, doesn't know when to go, and has become so drunk on the trappings of the job that he can't see the chaos he is overseeing.
  • How else can he get into the Valley to watch the football he loves so much if he was not on the board

I'm not suggesting Murray and Duchatelet are ''old buddies'', but they must have had some knowledge of each other pre-2014.......It's not clear who instigated the 2006-08 ''network''....The Charlton board? Someone else? Roland? It must have had a starting point of some sort and the various clubs (ourselves, Germinal, Frederikstad, MyPa, ASEC Mimosas and Zheng-Zhi's lot (the name escapes me)) sent representatives who certainly met on at least one occasion. The rationale of it was that the participants would loan players to each other and share promising youngsters: very similar to where we are now. One way looking at this is that the club have been searching for investment partners and new owners since 2006 - as well as the failed first ''network'', there was the failed Arab takeover (2008), the failed bid from the Sainsbury consortium (2010), Jimenez (also 2010) and Duchatelet (2014) - who co-incidentally, or otherwise, had previous dealings with the club.

Murray has been blamed rather less than he should have been for what happened between 2006 and 2009 in my view.

I think the point is that a meeting of club representatives wouldn't have involved either Duchatelet or Murray - any more than, for example, they attend FL meetings now.

  • As Murray prevented the Varney talks he must now be considered our foe and needs to go along with the rest of the regime.
  • I am most unlikely to renew the season ticket that I have held for decades. My parting message to Murray will be 'enjoy Division One tosser' (with apologies for the language).
