The majority of our fans were not at Rotherham or Birmingham away and therefore they've probably only witnessed one Charlton win since August (Sheffield Wednesday).
The fact that people are still turning up deserves a ton of credit FFS.
The fact that our wins now come away from the Valley say it all, the players hate playing at home because of the toxic atmosphere, isnt rocket science
And ultimately it's all down to one person and his crazy experiment mate. It was always going to be more pain before there is any gain and on yesterday's performance more will follow as hard as that is going to be for us to take.
We have started down the road of trying to force change, there's no turning back now I'm afraid. If the players give of their best they will receive the backing but it's a chicken and egg situation the crowd needed something to get them going yesterday but we were flat from the off albeit in difficult windy conditions and it all went downhill from then onwards.
I can understand frustration during the game and losing the will to live sometimes but there was nothing before the game had even started. Off the back of a 4-1 win and now a chance to get out the bottom 3 and we was all flat as anything. Not even a cheer when teams read out, nothing. All you could hear was Bristol who brought a massive following considering they were just above us in the league. Protests aside we shouldn't be slagging individual players for a bad performance when we didn't have a particularly good day ourselves. We are all in it together. Poor old fox left the pitch to the loudest cheer of the game and I wouldn't blame him if he left the pitch in tears. He's a young man as old as some of our kids learning his trade. He's still here when some ie Watt refuse to fight for the club. So get the drum back out and let's make the Valley a difficult place for teams come, and keep the toxic atmosphere away for 90 mins or channel it to get behind the team.
It is inevitable that a poor performance will drain the enthusiasm of the crowd, and many are already worn down by more than two years of struggle and, at best, mediocrity.
In my experience the crowd always start behind the team, and often it remains that way throughout even when the performance is lacklustre (ie most recently Forest). Perhaps we did have an off day. Perhaps we deserve one given how many off days the team has had of late.
I am bemused why we are expected to cheer ineptitude. Fox has been one of the worst performers this season. He is well-paid professional footballer who week in, week out fails to deliver. If he got upset because the crowd got on his back then perhaps he needs to look at his career choices, because it won't get any better at any other club.
What a difference a week makes, fans were awesome at Rotherham last week. Today certain fans around me couldn't wait to give mak and bergdich a hard time. Atmosphere completely fell flat after about 15 mins. Everything about today was shit, effort, singing players performance and banners protest. If we are to get out of this it needs a joint effort. Players and fans.
terrific post .. BUT even playing away we are schizophrenic .. (players not the fans) .. the 'abuse' from the die hard away fans is pretty minimal .. we were terrific at the Millers .. I can forgive being wiped out at Hull which is a very talented and experienced outfit, but the Hudd fiasco ? .. unforgiveable .. there is an old maxim that much of the difference between a good and a great player is consistency .. most of our players are incapable of maintaining this vital component to any really good professional sportsman's mental make up .. compare to the players usual form under Powell, especially in the promotion year .. anyway, what's gone is gone, Riga needs to get out and distribute the consistency tablets before it's too late .. as for the fans ? .. consistently booing the players however dire they might appear to be, will only make the performances worse
I'm struggling to separate the team from the regime. Riga as manager and players like Reza still getting a game.
The majority of the players don't give a toss, they'll be gone next season, we're the ones expected to sit here cheering on a failed experiment all the way to league one.
Like the players, I won't be there next season either (unless rd suddenly packs up). Like the players, I'm just going through the motions, waiting for the season to end.
RD has slowly killed my passion for the club and for football in general, cancelled my sky subscription the other day. Tired of the whole money driven industry at the moment.
We had just come off the back of a 4-1 win and a chance to get out the bottom 3. This has nothing to do with the regime or the other 20 odd games. This is reality and this is now. We had a chance to make a difference yesterday and we failed. I've seen them other games too, I'm as guilty as the rest of us for not being up for it yesterday. But we have to admit for a big game and the perhaps one off mauling of Rotherham last week, we was poor. Seems many of you just want to blame the regime for everything. Look yes they have sucked the life and soul from the club but we are still coming, we are still supporting the team cause that's what we do. We was just very flat yesterday. And we all know we was.

Unfortunately I have heard this so often from long term fans at several clubs .. I will digress for a bit here .. Yaya Touré .. reportedly earning a million pounds+ a month .. he is a lazy arrogant spoilt big baby and the sooner he f**s off back to Europe the better .. According to Arséne Wenger .. all the new influx of cash into the Premier League should be spent on buying and paying players and no way should fans get cheaper admission prices .. I used to have some respect for Wenger, but now consider him an arrogant old geezer perhaps deluded by his seemingly immovable 'reign' at Arsenal and perhaps suffering from early onset dementia
I have no idea what our players earn. I suspect that whatever the salary sums are they beat by a huge margin the wages from working in Tesco, the average office worker's remuneration, what BAE pays, or even Rolls Royce at Derby or Nissan in Sunderland .. the recently deceased Jimmy Hill was the instigator of the abolition of the maximum wage .. perhaps as in Rugby Union and League as well as the NFL, a team salary cap is needed in world football
Last point: Leicester City's players are I am sure well paid .. but nowhere near so well 'rewarded' as the foreign legion at the Etihad .. I watched yesterday's highlights of the demolition job done by the Foxes over Cittteeeeh .. what a pleasure .. still, lose win or draw, the City players are probably all millionaires undeservedly so or not .. thereby hangs a major part of the problem
If the majority of you on here showed the same amount of passion in cheering on the boys as you do moaning and whinging hen the valley really would be a fierce place to play.
And before anyone has a pop, I do admire your passion but let's all stick together especially with the team, as frustrating as they are. We've gone past the point of no return with changing things so let's do what we can to stick by them and get out this bottom 3.
Last weekend at Rotherham, our team gave themselves a chance of fighting relegation. Yesterday the same team bar one, totally failed to put in any worthwhile effort. Were disgraceful and an embarassment. Their total ineptitude has now consigned CAFC to league one. There are many contributing factors to the shambles we witness almost every game. But trying to blame the supporters is at best misguided, at worst, an insult to many of us who have stuck with this club for decades.
If we put as much effort into singing our support for the team as we do by singing "stand up if you want them out" it would be a very good atmosphere. IMO getting a bit repetitive during the game and is not helping the team.
This was probably the most important game of the season. A win could have pulled us to within sight of safety. It was off the back of a tremendous result and performance at Rotherham. Yet the only cheering that I could hear on the commentary was from the Bristol fans. For Christ sake what is wrong with our fans? Put your hatred for the regime to one side whilst the game is on and get behind Riga and the lads. If we go down it would be an absolute disaster. The atmosphere was as flat as a pancake. I know the football is crap, but it's our job as fans to attempt to lift the players, not destroy their confidence. There is now such negativity on this forum and obviously within the supporter base that it has become like a cancer that is spreading and killing our chances of survival. Roland and Miere are going nowhere quickly, we are stuck with them in the short term, that is the sad reality. Yes they are destroying the club, but the fans, by not getting behind the team, are making things even worse.

I doubt the atmosphere makes a lot of diference to be honest. Loads of examples such as operation Ewood. The job of the fans at present is to get rid of this regime.
I think the problem is that everyone has inwardly accepted the inevitably of relegation.
With predicted crowds of less than 7500, I suspect the east stands and upper west will be closed. Players who don't want third tier football will be sent to Belgium or Hungary and we will be left struggle against relegation with more totally unsuitable players imported from lower leagues around Europe. (Riga will, of course, be replaced just after the season starts).
This is the situation that will be the background to the fight for Charlton! It's going to be a long war - not a battle.
Daggs...what are you saying I'm blaming the supporters for? The thread is about how flat the atmosphere was yesterday. This thread is not about the regime or that Doris didn't smile when she sold you a shirt in the club shop. It is simple. We was awful yesterday including the team for our biggest game so far. That's all I'm saying. If this has hit a nerve and you think I'm blaming the season on the supporters then you are assuming wrongly. And I've stuck with the club for decades and I've been through worse.

Hardly, we're 4 points off safety, nothing is decided yet. One week we get a good result, the next week somebody else does, and that will continue until the end of the season.

day by day the spectre of relegation looms closer and closer, and I write this as essentially an optimist .. Bristol City have vastly improved, Bolton Wanderers is gradually waking up, MK Dons seem to have a good fighting spirit and a shrewd manager, only Rotherham and ourselves are consistently weak .. I can't see any other 'struggling' clubs, Fulham, Blackburn, Huddersfield, Leeds being drawn into real trouble .. IF/when we avoid relegation it will only be through our own endeavours, we can't rely on the weaknesses of any other club

The atmosphere during the game isn't 'toxic' whatsoever. The players always gets the fans backing, and if anything they've had an easy ride with us compared to what they would get at most clubs.

Perhaps I should have added IMO? How much are you betting on us not getting relegated?

All I'm saying is that one bad result doesn't make it certain that we're relegated. Similarly if we beat Fulham next week, that doesn't make us certainties to stay up.
There will be plenty of twists ahead. Flukey wins, heartbreaking defeats due to a bad refereeing decision, injuries for us AND our rivals...
I've seen enough this season to 'know' the team has no fight, no passion and little ability. It would take some sort of footballing miracle to keep us up now. I guess I'm resigned to it. What's worse is I'm beginning to not care.

Agreed, it's down to us. However, we have essentially played for one third of the season without a proper manager and without 3 or 4 of our best players at any given time. If those dynamics change, and the manager part already has, then there is no reason why we shouldn't see a big upturn in our form. Had we won yesterday, and I think we'd have had a much better chance against a team not battling relegation, then the added confidence of winning two on the trot could have seen us go on to win 3 or 4 consecutive games. I know it sounds like pie in the sky at the moment after yesterday's dissapointment, but it's not inconceivable. We shouldn't underestimate the importance and impact that confidence plays in the game and a couple of decent results could totally change the confidence levels in most of the lads. But we need the Valley crowd right behind us and we need to find an influential leader on the pitch. Jacko is a good skipper with a great attitude, but he no longer has a great influence on the game. A fit Diarra in midfield may have more influence than Jacko and still be someone the younger players could look up to.

Exactly - we've had to endure appalling football from players who are largely inept and give us little or nothing to cheer about. They were hopeless yesterday and gave fans little to get excited about. Some of these players are well paid - if they weren't it wouldn't seem quite so bad.
I wasn't even bothered when we lost - I've become indifferent.

Losing I can handle. I have got used to it over 35 years. For some of the players, it's not their fault they are not good enough at this level. But an apparent lack of effort and passion is unforgivable. People paying good money, regularly, to watch have a right to expect players, earning a hell of a lot more than 99% of the crowd, to give their all.
I think this thread has lost its way a little. Yes it's not been a great season, yes they don't give you much to cheer about DURING the game and yes they earn a lot to play in our shirt. But the point I'm making is they actually did give us something to cheer about last week beating our relegation rivals and surely that must have given us all a bit of optimism going into a home game against the team sitting just above us?? But BEFORE the game had even started the place was flat.
Give us something to cheer about and maybe the atmosphere will change... shite from minute 1 to minute 95. The players should be fecking grateful we are still turning up... for now anyway!

Diminishing sense of attachment to club
Low morale
Grinding repetitiveness of the whole thing
None of the above were caused by us.
Hardly surprising the stadium isn't bouncing is it?
