Arsenal watching Lookman

Why don't these teams just let these kids enjoy playing and learning the game ....again we will have a young man who head will be turned or an agent who sees a pay day

  • Undisclosed fee. Gone in January, Pinocchio just won't be able to help herself.
  • Lots of clubs look at lots of players, all the time. Means nothing. Now if they come in with a £5m offer, do we accept or turn it down?

I think you meant to say does Roland accept it or not. And we all know the answer to that if £5m was the offer.

Corrected for you and the answer is accept.

It's pretty obvious that there's a lot of potential there. He'll be moved on in January. I hope he has a good career at a proper club.

I agree with that. We're a joke right now. Still I support the team 100% and though i'd be glad to see any of them go, it is what it is. They're better off elsewhere.

  • I'm not surprised .. he's a star already .. a superstar in the making .. IF .. he can maintain progress and a level head .. it's inevitable that all super talented players will end up at a major club sooner or later

+ add ons, say if he scores a hatrick in the world cup final we get an extra 100k
  • Two words:

    'Sales Target'

That being said, to infer we are not a proper club is a bit extreme. I don't agree with a lot of things in how we are run currently but we are still a proper club.

Lookman doesn't 'deserve better than us'. We gave him his first chance of pro football, I would imagine he is delighted and very pro Charlton. Hope he stays a couple of years.
  • Shiny seats will not stay shiny for long as there will be no bums on them to polish them!.

Every opportuntiy he has had, he has seemed to create himself. With some proper service, we will see goals.
  • I clearly remember Richard Murray telling us when the RD circus rolled into town that the days when we had to sell our young stars to keep afloat were over. I used to like RD. Now it seems our entire raison d'etre is to fatten up youngsters to sell on for a quick buck, and our CEO is so dimwitted that our players are pointlessly cheap. So we have to call every deal 'undisclosed'. Sounds like we are ashamed of our prices, and after the Gomez sale, it's not a surprise.
    Thanks Richard.
  • Watching doesn't mean a great deal. Wasn't long ago Arsenal were said to be watching Cousins.

The year before there was a lot of excitement around Harriott.

Don't think we need to worry about Lookman this early. As an attacking player he needs to show he's got goals/assists in him and that won't come without a run of games.

All our acquisitions are undisclosed as well

Just as they were under Slater and Jimenez.

  • Arsenal, please go away....

I was having a chat with a few Arsenal fans this week. They were obviously very frustrated with their injury situation and one of them joked that maybe we (Charlton) could loan someone to them. I was like 'absolutely no way!'. I told them our own squad was so thin that we were facing the danger of relegation. I just can't believe a few days later now I see this news. :( Hope there's nothing more than just 'have a look at the player'. Lookman was the only one in the Ipswich match that left me with a positive impression. Far from perfect I know but I just hope he'll keep on progressing and make bigger contribution at Charlton rather than somewhere else.

    Fixed it again Len
  • I just read these two articles back to back and found it really funny that the first few paragraphs of both pieces are almost identical. So.... yeah, probably nothing much to worry about.

People are saying the club will sell , RD wants the cash that's just total bollocks the fact is a club like ours at times have to sell a player to balance the books ... Next season you will be having teams coming down with 90 mill pounds in the their pockets due to new TV and parachute deals how can a club like our compete with that ??
Look at Sky money last week that was Ipswich 11th appearance on TV since they last was on against us , compete that with how many times we have been 2 ?? again we are losing out money wise
All this makes it impossible for clubs like Charlton to turn down offers for anyone

It does. Why not try the alrnative route though. Get an experienced manager and support him over three or four seasons in the transfer market giving the club at least a chance of getting its nose into the Premier League trough instead of the current half baked plan.
