So far with very few exceptions, we haven't strayed too far postcode wise culturally
    What does that mean?
    Emir Kusturica
    Paolo Conte
    Gilberto Gill
    Jaques Brel
    Miles Davis
Oh right, I see. Roughly translated as "nobody has said "look at me"".

    Until your post.
    Thank you.
Not resting on my Laurels, I'm looking to expand. Suggestions for additional reasons to post on here are most welcome.
Apart form Miles Davis I haven’t heard of the other 4………has anyone else?
Next time the non smoking orchestra is in town, do yourself a favour, with or without Kustorica (he may be busy directing) go go go... 7/8, 9/8, even 11/8 but you will fall in love. Brel and Miles are nobodies (put there for the one obvious reason) Conte sings about cyclists boxers and lonely Zebras, Gilberto Gill, loves trains (2222).
Would have loved to have the No Smocking Orchestra @lennylowrent, do they tour much and when did you see them?
    In Tel Aviv.
They have been to Israel a few times since. i now live in Perth Western Australia. We live in hope...
Long way to go for a gig.
    2017. I think,
Caeserea amphitheatre to be more precise . Back then that long way trip was a regular thing...
They must have toured the UK... no..?

If they have @lennylowrent, I’ve never seen anything, though that in itself isn’t surprising, I’ve long since had my finger removed from the pulse!

Anyway my vote for the best in this category as I interpret it is Michael Hutchence. I feel blessed to have been so close. He radiated love, energy, excitement and happiness. I will always love him.

If only the music wasn't so bleh.

I've been to hundreds of concerts and the best front man performance was without doubt Michael Hutchence Wembley Stadium 1991.

Hardly a frontman indeed is our Joao...

I like to assume you have innocently  confused Joao Gilberto, with Gilberto Gil...
    Here he is.

In terms of influential, it would be people I'd never seen, like Elvis, Little Richard, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Bessie Smith.  Jagger etc were the ones influenced by them. Bowie is interesting as he was drawing influences from outside conventional rock n roll, like Anthony Newley and theatre. And I'm not a fan of their music but you can see that same drawing from theatre with Freddy Mercury.
In terms of those I've seen who I thought were the best/most memorable:

Toots of the Maytals was excellent.
Julian Cope was deranged (though he was channelling his inner Iggy Pop at the time) and memorable. But not a performance you could do too often.
    Helno of Les Négresses Vertes
    David McComb of the Triffids

There will be more I've not thought of as work has gone mad this morning
