Mercedes winning all the time is slowly putting me off of f1.

I hope the budget caps in 2021 reduces the gap somewhat.

Huge congratulations to Lewis. Truly one of our greatest ever sportsmen in any sport.

The irony is they didnt even have the fastest car for over half of 2019. Hamilton was the difference.

More like the Ferrari strategists lol

Just reading some of the stats on Hamilton. Amazing that he's won at least 1 race in each of his 13 seasons in F1. Nobody else has ever done that.

One side of me says, who gives a toss about Sirs,Lords,MBE's,OBES ,and all that bollox etc.
But the other side of me says that Lewis has been a fantastic ambassador for the country and the sport - and a nice human being too.
I really dont get the negativity towards him tbh. Maybe its because he doesnt go around beating up people outside night clubs, or shag his team mates wife, or generally get pissed and make a total pratt of himself so the Sun can put him on Page 1.
Nice people are not liked - after all, look at me !
Its symptomatic of the cheap, lets take the piss, society we live in.

Agreed. he was partly the difference. Merc also have the best team in terms of strategists and management. When it comes to big calls on race days, they make the right decision more often than Ferrari which has allowed to them to overcome the speed gap between themselves and Ferrari. Hamilton's speed, coolness under pressure, and ability to make tyres last and find pace even when the car is not hooked up 100% are contributors to that. He just never seems to get ragged these days, contrast with the dog's dinner of a first lap from Vettel yesterday.

Does anyone else think Hamilton will end up in a Ferrari before his career is over, or are they committed to Le Clerc as a clear no. 1 now?

There’s way more to it than that

Yeah you have Ferraris strategy team being weaker but since the summer break Ferrari have loaded up the downforce to go with their power.... Vettel shits it under pressure.....

Lewis is still the major point of difference imo

Vettel really has been a major weakness this year.

Bottas would have also beaten Ferrari and Red Bull to the title and I'd say both Leclerc and Verstappen are better drivers

EDIT: Better drivers than Bottas I mean

Wasn’t able to watch the race this week, but on reading about this whole incident, it just makes me happy to see that Ferrari, despite their wealth, arrogance, sense of entitlement, pettiness, whining and blame culture, have once again contributed to a poor working relationship between their two drivers, leaving them with yet another stinking mess to deal with.
Pretty much every decision they’ve made this year has served only to mess up their races and to drive a bigger and bigger wedge between Leclerc and Vettel. They’re now at the point where there appears to be no trust or respect between the drivers - to the extent that I wouldn’t be too surprised if at some point in the near future they take each other out of a race.

Moving forward, Leclerc has clearly got a brighter future than Vettel, so I can’t see Vettel hanging around at Ferrari for too long unless Leclerc gets his head turned in the next year by an offer as number 1 driver in a competitive team. (But that seems unlikely, considering Hamilton and Verstappen have those spots right now and McLaren aren’t going to be challenging for anything until they change back to Mercedes engines in 2021 at the very least.) Having said all that, Leclerc, despite having a breakout year, hasn’t been perfect.

I think Vettel has effectively ended his competitive career this year. He’s been shown up as not being as good as he thinks he is, as well as not being as good as his rookie teammate, despite having the benefit of experience, past success and, until recently, team orders. He might hang about in the sport for a while yet, like Kimi has done, but I can’t see him holding on to the Ferrari drive after 2020. I actually think Ferrari would offload Vettel this winter if it weren’t for the fact that:
    a) They’d have to pay him a shitload of money for the privilege.
    b) Leclerc is so young. They need an ‘old head’ while Leclerc matures, but although Vettel is making a pig’s ear of it, they won’t get one of the older, more experienced drivers in just to babysit for a year or two. So I reckon they’ll see his contract to 2020 out, then get rid. Leclerc will still be a baby, but a baby with two years in a top end team.

Vettel’s only chance would be if the Ferrari is absolutely dominant next year and he somehow manages to keep Leclerc behind him. But that requires a big step up in performance from both him and his team.

Fingers crossed, he messes up again next year and retires, meaning we don’t have to look at his entitled, smug, arrogant mug anymore.  B)
    And there it is.

Hmm. Not sure. Albon left enough space for two cars, let alone one. Hamilton did dive in, but I think he was entitled to. I can see it going either way.

We’ll see what the stewards say, but if they punish him, I hope he owns it and doesn’t whine like a little bitch.

Further to the above. He did just hold his hands up to the incident and the stewards haven’t even made the decision yet.
    Fair play.

Wow  an exciting F1 race at last. One of the best, glad Gasly  hung in there.

Class from Hamilton. In terms of the response - the incident wasn’t dirtyness like Schumacher.

Watching with my 11 year old son who is better qualified than any of us as a top 5 driver in the UK kart championships.

he said Albon left far too much of a gap - and missed his turn in point. Lewis had no option but to go for it - Albon should have known the car was there.

He thinks Lewis will get a penalty but Albon knew he messed up the entry

Hamilton gets a 5 second penalty and drops to 7th.

Not sure about “fantastic ambassador for the country” bit.  On the one hand he raves about NZ when over here in 2016, landing by helicopter on mountain tops etc.  on the other hand he was very upset at Auckland Casino not recognising him and asking him to remove his cap and sunglasses.  Later, he was stopped by cops for talking on his cellphone while driving on a motorway, a charge which was later dropped.

Sainz has been promoted to 3rd but is also under investigation. If he gets a 5 second penalty, Brit George Russell will nick a championship point.

Hamilton drove like a man who had already won the title! I think he spoke like that too - not sure he’d have been quite so magnanimous had the title been on the line or if it were Vettel! Especially as I don’t think it’s that clear cut - Albon should have left a car’s width. I’m really surprised there’s any question here.

Still, what a wonderful end to the race, so much drama. And Vettel making me laugh out loud again, especially when he tried to blame his teammate for driving in a straight line.

Arguably two of the best, Brazil and Germany will not be on the calendar next year.
  • Options
Brazil is on the calender next year, Germany isn't because they say it's too expensive to run every year so Hockenheim and Nurburgring have been alternating, but the Nurburgring can't get funds together for it.

Great race. You have to feel for Albon but it all added to the excitement. When the dust settles, Ferrari are going to have to make some big decisions for next season.

Ever since Riciardo showed up at Red Bull and started outperforming Vettel, he's been a busted flush and this last couple of seasons has been a downright liability at times. I think Ferrari should probably ditch him, but who do you replace him with? They're not getting Alonso back and his track record of keeping his cool when a teamate becomes a serious challenge to him is not exactly great. Hamilton and Verstappen both seemingly unavailable, so they;d be looking at getting someone like Hulkenberg in as a clear No. 2 driver, although I don't know if he'd score any less points than Vettel has to be fair.

They'll stick it out with him next year, focus all their efforts on 2021s new regulations car, then make a huge effort in getting Max or Hamilton imo. However if that doesn't work Leclerc has the makings of a top driver and they could easily just get a clear number 2 in a la Bottas at Mercedes, a good hand like Perez or Sainz maybe

I would absolutely love to see Lewis go to Ferrari to go for a final title and third team to win with cementing his status as the best ever...

But standing in his way is the best of the new generation.

    Max in a Mercedes
