  • Absolutely ridiculous... You cant just make the rules up as you go along. Either all cars unlap or none do, in both cases Lewis wins.

Disgusting - FIA are disgusting - engineered that - you either let ALL lapped cars through - or NO lapped cars through

    Wankers
I don't totally understand why the lapped cars is an issue. Wasn't it a 1 lap race off with Hamilton in front to begin with but Verstappen managed to overtake him (where it was ok to overtake)?
Max on on fresh fast tyres - it was no competition.
Circumstances. A superior car is potentially no competition
I haven’t got the time or the inclination to explain.
  • Hamilton conducted himself like a real gentleman in his interview just now.
Not sure I would have given the circumstances.
He's gone up massively in my opinion.
He’s always been like that really.

The bigger news is George Russell (maybe trying to get his new team on side) has just gone apoplectic on Twitter saying it is unacceptable what we have just seen.
Regardless of who he's driving for, he's right.

Max would be just as apoplectic if the boot was on the other foot

I don't agree with it, it created drama but Lewis had the race sewn up so it gave Verstappen an unfair advantage. Like in Spa where there wasn't a race. But we are saying how great it all is and some of that has definitely been manufactured by decisions based on the World Title rather than matter of fact. It isn't something we have discovered today for the first time.
  • Fantastic interview from Lewis.
  • Its equally annoying me that the media continue to give the wife beater so much screen time - Hypocrits

  • What an absolutely farcical decision.....Im not sure Lewis will race next year, its seems as though FIA have it against him, so why bother?
  • I dont understand why cars are allowed to unlap themselves. What is all that about ?. Surely where you are on the track is where you are on the track. If you come in for a put stop that's your look out. Under the SC you are at least saving yourself some time as everyone is going slow & you catch up the pack in the end.

    Someone please explain.
Its so everyone is on the same lap, means there are no cars in the way so its a straight fight... Had they not moved out the way then Hamilton would have disappeared down the road on that last lap
I understand that, but why are lapped cars usually allowed to unlap themselves before the race restarts. Dont understand.
Because they're out of the way for safety... The field gets bunched up by the car in first once the SC goes into the pits - It already gets messy enough on the restart, you'd be left with cars desperate to get past the backmarkers, and backmarkers desperate to get out of the way
Then perhaps the rules under a SC need to change. If you make them all back up then that's part of the race.

It's a bit like the start. I said on here a few months back that I find it strange that the driver on pole has to sit on his mark for ages (with over heating brakes) whilst the bloke in 20th ambles round & everyone has to wait for him before they start.

Weird sport. It seems he best driver gets penalised by the worst ones. Waiting on the grid & then letting them unlap themselves.

Seems they've changed the rules already
  • I think FIA need to get rid of Masi. His lack of consistency has probably contributed to the excitement but it does take some of the sporting element away from the sport.
  • Who ever you wanted to win both cars & drivers had a equal chance over one lap, the one with the best tyres won, shows how ridiculous F1 has become.
  • Now the wife beater in on - fuck off.

The way Hamilton has taken this only proves what a great Champion he is!
That’s LH - but the haters will still hate.
As with anyone and everything, can't you admire some things and dislike/disagree with others?

    But not the better car?

Domestic abuse is okay when the media say it is
  • If a sport is that bad you have to make up rules to create excitement then it shouldn’t be a sport.

Last race next year you gotta drive blindfolded
    Or put snow chains on.
  • What is the reference to wife beater?

Middle Eastern countries are okay to get involved in sport......just don't mention the politics.

What is the reference to wife beater?
    Jos Verstappen

Bloke is a nasty piece of work not just to his wife but to Max in his youth as well
  • Literally like giving a losing football team a pen in the last min to make it more exciting. Absolutely shocking you need to make up rules to make a sport more entertaining.
    Yeah, it’s definitely the case.
I can remember playing a cup game years ago, draw after 90 mins. The ref ( their manager) then decided he wanted extra time and then went to pens. Which we lost, we made an appeal, as a replay was in order, the league agreed as these were the rules. We beat them in the replay. Justice was done.

I don’t think we heard the last of this race.
  • Masi has fucked it up again here.

Should have let the lapped cars through as soon as possible, like they always do, and there would have been 1 lap left for racing still. Instead he ummed and ahhed and then went for a weird half hearted ruling that fucked off Mercedes, having initially fucked off Red Bull with the ruling that none of them can unlap themselves.

If the boot was on the other foot, you can bet your bottom dollar Toto would have blown himself up ranting if Masi decided to keep the lapped cars between a race-leading Max and a Lewis on brand new tyres, so pretty fucking cynical of him complaining about it tbh, but at the end of the day it came down to strategic calls on the fly, and in a split second you have to decide to come in or stay out, wonder if the rival will come in or stay out, and how many laps it will take to clear the car and if you'll be able to race again. A lot of chance and luck involved in that process, and it went Red Bull's way in the end.

Must just point out too that after all is said and done, Max overtook Lewis cleanly on the final lap, and defended hard but fairly, to ensure he won

Out for the old dears birthday, was keeping up with it but bbc not actually said what the mess is about. Can someone clarify?
In short-Max pitted on a virtual safety car, mercedes gambled and left Lewis out. Then a safety car about 7 laps out, Max got another free pit stop leaving Lewis on old tyres. Masi had to choose between letting all the lapped cars through which would have meant no restart and a Lewis win or letting none of them through which probably leads to a Lewis win. Instead he made up a 3rd option and let just 5 of them through so Max started next to Lewis on his new tyres and beat him in a 1 lap race
The exact summary. The decision made in option 3 was outside of the rules. You can't just make shit up. If Mercedes knew Masi was going to do that, I'm sure they would of pitted, or at least mitigated it.

don’t understand how Lewis wasn’t given a 12 second head start after the restart.
    Why would he be?
