Even current great managers wouldn't do well for us at the moment, the whole set up RD has is anti-manager, hence why we have been getting 'coaches' - just to coach his assets. Not to improve our team and invest to progress as a squad. Managers need tools to work with, RD hands you a door and then kicks you out of it, that's all.

Mackay being there could be a good distraction. They selected their manager last week, contract signed and then invited Mackay to come to the game because he lives local. All attention on him while our new manager is already preparing for training on Monday
Guess it had to happen but really feel for Guy. He's passionate about the game, wants to win and he brought in some decent players.

A string of injuries to key players, too weak a squad which cannot be wholly Guy's fault, bad results on the back of injuries and key players coming back before they're fully fit (as per SM today). If we'd had Kashi today we would have been a lot stronger.
Every time a Coach or Manager gets booted I watch to see the level of criticism of the playing squad - yet it rarely, if ever happens. The players are as much a part of the problem as the Coach yet they slip into silence and life goes on.
I wish Guy Luzon all the very best for the future and wish to express my embarrassment as a lifelong CAFC supporter at his treatment and lack of support by both Club and playing squad.
I'd rather have neither. While still apparently a consultant to RD, Fraeye is currently coach at VW Hamme in the Belgian 3rd tier, 12th of 18 with 13 points from 11 games. Prior to that, he coached in the Belgian 4th tier. It's true he has been here before, but his other experience at this level is non-existent.
No surprise and, in my opinion, the right decision. Luzon was unlucky with injuries to key players but he simply failed to get enough out of those at his disposal.
The real concern though is that Luzon was only part of the problem. From Roland to Katrien to the piss poor scouting and recruitment policy to the whole under-managed and under-led management team - the club is a complete shambles. A better manager/coach than Luzon might make a better fist of it than he did, but whoever it is will still be operating in the mad-house that is CAFC right now. I hope that Roland and Katrien will reflect on their roles in the failures over the past couple of seasons and make some changes to their approach. Whoever the new manager/coach is, for Christ's sake give the poor sod more chance to be successful.

I wish this country didn't have this huge obsession over football managers. It's a huge problem in footballing culture. Fact is a manager has relatively little impact over how a club fairs. Most important thing when it comes down to it is money. Clubs who spend do well, those who don't struggle.
I'm willing to argue this with people but enough studies have been done and we all know enough anecdotal evidence to back it up. Clough wasn't some sort of managerial god but he was able to influence owners into spending money they didn't want to.
Unfortunately we aren't a rich club. We can all blame Roland for not spending enough but none of us really know how much he has or is willing to spend. As long as this goes on the managerial merry go round will continue regardless of who is appointed.

Good managers bring success because they get more out of of a squad than the sum of its parts. Curbishley is the obvious example. They don't always go on to do the same elsewhere. Fitting the club is also important. The really great managers seem to reproduce the trick everywhere they go. Get the manager right and you have a great chance of success.
I agree with you but it's far from the most important asset a club has. Is Pellegrini more important than Mansour, is Mourinho more important than Abramovich?
I agree that getting fit is important. As much as I disagree with the stock placed in a manager that isn't the general consensus of most fans. Get the wrong man and the fans are automatically harder to win over leading to lack of support, abuse being thrown and generally a toxic atmosphere when things go wrong. Same goes for the players.
My point is that unless money is spent then a club will struggle. It's a harsh fact of football but it's a true one wherever you look around the world. Of course clubs can sometimes have an abnormal season and finish higher (or lower) than they should but then is a very strong correlation between expenditure and where a club finishes. We are one of the lowest spenders in the league and that's just the way it is.
Yes, a manager has an impact, good or bad that is undeniable but it's nowhere near as important as money spent. Say we could get any manager in the world, would it make us into a promotion chasing team? I doubt it.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but according to the programme, M.Duchatelet has injected £21m in 20 months. That's £3m more than the previous board loaned to CAFC over three years.
There is indeed a high correlation between player wage budgets and where a club finishes. Despite that £21m we have remained a bottom six club on player budgets.
That £21m includes £8.6m on players although Gudmundsson was free! I don't know why we didn't sign Bulot nor why we pushed Wiggins (and Morrison) out of the club, but what we saw today on the left side of our team was absolutely shocking.
I've just posted on another thread that we would be in a better place if RD had left Slater, Jiminez and Prothero in situ on the board and given them the cash injection.
Don't get me wrong, I like the idea that there's a majority shareholder who can afford the losses and investment required. I'm just confused as to why he puts muppets in charge of his investment.
Whoever put the budgets together this season should have challenged the owner and stated plain and simple that player budgets need to rise significantly just to stand still.
If RD wants to achieve something or just bail out and get SOME of his money back then he needs the right leadership and the correct budgets.

When Luzon joined I thought it was purely because he was cheap and was a yes man. A sort of Mr O'Reilly in this Fawlty Towers joke this club has become. I was very quick to judge, but changed my mind when he turned things around and kept us up. At the start of this season I started to think very positively about him. Then it all went tits up and it seemed that he just didn't have an answer. Maybe he was a bit of a one trick pony. I've got mixed feelings about him going; in a way I'm glad because we were getting nowhere under him. In another way I'm not because I think the chief architect of our failure is elsewhere and I don't like the 'blame the manager, sack him' philosophy that's seen us getting through two bosses a year. I wish Guy every bit success in the future and I hope we can now get a manager who can build success and stability here. But I'm not holding my breath on either. As for Damien Matthew, I don't know the guy and I don't like to gloat over anyone's sacking, but it strikes me that he's had a long innings during a startlingly unsuccessful period. Maybe it is time for someone to come in. That said I, of course, wish him well.
