Plenty of people I know still harmlessly use the term and I occasionally do to. If you want to get offended on others behalf or for the sake of it feel free.
There were loads of people wearing black and white today, which I think is a positive. I know that some of them would have anyway, but I think at least it shows a level of concern and a willingness to show that concern, if not to be the standard bearers of the campaign.
With that in mind, I think that perhaps that calls for people to wear black and white scarves and carry black and white flags were a little over optimistic. I am therefore recommending that for the next game people bring along some black and white items that are a little more Charltonesque.
The way they trot this stuff out every time the natives get restless is beyond parody.
It's like there saying "can't you see what we've done, how we saved you, spent money on you. Improved you and made you better. What is wrong with you imbeciles!"
Well Katrien, when I'm queing up on a cold Tuesday night to get a pasty that tastes like its been down the back of a sofa for a week from your 'improved' match day dining experience and then go to take my seat to watch a game starring your 'much improved squad' lead by your fine European renowned coaching team, put in a performance that I could probably see over the park on a Sunday morning, I think to myself,'somebody saw them coming' or ' I am being royally mugged off!' If this is progress, Id bloody hate to see failure.
In a reprinted extract from a programme dating back to the 1980/81 season Leroy Ambrose was referred to as "our coloured striker".
I think it should be printed . Even if to show how times have changed in 35 years.
I agree.
It reads very strangely now as why would you comment on a players ethnicity but that was then, this is now.
Have to say I think even in 1980 black was the word I would have used but i was a right on rock against racism AFA kid even then : - )
I disagree, it should be left in the past where it belongs, presumably it was reprinted as some sort of nostalgic reminiscence for the old boys.
Seriously? Have you seen it? Have you seen any of the programmes this season?
The programmes this year all have about four pages reprinted from a programme of yesteryear - normally the front page, the team line up and a couple of pages of news, etc.
Today's reprint was a programme from back in 1980. It mentions Leroy Ambrose as "our coloured striker". Seems a bit old fashioned now, to say the least, but I guess back then - rightly or wrongly - it WAS unusual to have a black player. But back in those days it was probably no different to calling Tony Watt our "Scottish striker" today.
Yes, we probably wouldn't all be comfortable with that term of reference or the context now, but to start throwing accusations of "casual racism" about is a fucking joke - in my opinion, of course.
(PS. And so is the insinuation that it was printed as some sort of "nostalgic reminiscence for the boys", but I'm assuming that you haven't actually seen it to be thinking that.)

Not sure if you're trying to dig me out or not, but as a moderately intelligent man I assume you can tell the difference between referring to someone as "Scottish" and "Coloured" in this day and age. I'm not sure the relevance of it being a reprint of some nonsense piece from days gone by means much - if it's wrong now (which "Coloured" is, btw) then it's wrong, why on earth do we need to revisit it when we must have literally thousands of pages of programmes we could reproduce if we have to without any contentious references.
I guess I'm in the minority, just seems mad to reproduce anything from years ago that includes language that is completely unnecessary.
Despite good intentions this will achieve diddly squat I'm afraid.
It would be very very simple to get this the attention it needs - next home game NO ONE turns up. Getting the message out would be the hard bit but I would happily miss the game if it sent a message out and if anyone really cares about this they would surely do the same.
Yes some of us have paid up front for the ticket etc but no one is getting any value atm anyway - I think most would relish the break.
Two teams running out to a literally empty Valley (other than 2k Sheff Wed) would get the situation all the attention it needs and some.
Those who still want to socialise, travel up anyway and spend longer in the pubs giving them a much needed boost.
It is so easy BUT so many won't do it when it comes to it - they won't forsake one 90min game for the sake of the club.
But that is the only way we'll convey just how pissed off we all are.

It's an incredibly unrealistic scenario though.
I agree, it won't happen in a million years, but it needn't be unrealistic.
There is no point talking about it or saying what an impact it would have unless those like you and @kentred2 are willing to start organising it yourselves.
Internet talk is easy but someone somewhere has to take a lead and as you and @ kentred2 are pushing it so much it has to be you two.
The point of black and white was that it is visual, people can support it without missing games because a lot of people don't want to boycott but do want change.
maybe the original aims are too mild.
I set the bar deliberately low so KM could have some easy wins and start doing some basics right. And so there was a clear set of aims for people to ask for that weren't just "get out".
Seems events have gone beyond reasonable requests for many and for KM.
But spell it out in black and white can still be used
Just don't let this just be a whinge on the Internet.

Absolutely right.
Make it the Ipswich game on 28 November, which is also on Sky.
Obviously there will be plenty of empty seats anyway, but would also give it some profile if more chose to stay away.
"because a lot of people don't want to boycott but do want change."
And there lies the problem and nothing me, you or anyone does will change that for some people.
Unfortunately in this situation I think a mass boycott or walk-out is the only message that would get across.
Stop talking about and start organising it then Organiser : - )
Other than suggest it on sites like this and the Fb group and then rely on word of mouth I don't know what else you can do.
I'll be up Charlton but won't attend. It's a personal choice and most will still choose their precious attendance over the bigger picture, so as SE9addick pointed out it's unfortunately unrealistic.

Not digging you our personally as it's a common Internet and public bar thing "someone (else) should do something".
