  • This is the email I received from Andy Struthers at Green4

'Hi (Seth), not really my name!

I am very sorry to hear that you are so frustrated over your recent ticketing experiences at Charlton.

However your comments need to be directed to Charlton, not ourselves.

I will forward a copy of this email to their Ticket Office manager, who I’m sure, will be keen to help you.

    Regards

    Andy Struthers

    but a real email

So if the club say it's down to Green4, and Green4 say its down to the club, the truth about any (teething) problems is probably somewhere in between.
I suspect that Green4 were not able to train the Charlton people for some reason. maybe there are not enough Charlton people to do the job thoroughly, maybe the Charlton people are simply not able to cope with the new system complexities.
On the other hand maybe Green4 have set up something so complicated you have to be Einstein to suss it out, or maybe the training from Green4 was very inadequate, might even have only been one of those instruction manuals in tiny typeface in twenty languages, the original language being Tagalog.
Judging by the reported mix ups it is possible to conclude that it is not going well, but the willingness of (probably very stressed) staff at Charlton to sort it out ought to be recognised as a positive.
Maybe the percentage of issues is a fraction of a percent, but all those affected happen to be lifers.

  • It's not petty at all. Saturday morning at ticket office is going to be s nightmare.

  • still not got mine.

and judging by the above, if it doesn't arrive by tomorrow, I will have to leave the pub early to collect a reprint on Saturday.

they really wanna hope it turns up tomorrow otherwise I will be livid and thirsty.
  • If the number of posts on here about tickets still to be received is taken as an indication that the overall number is much larger then surely this is a matter for the police if so many Royal Mail items have gone missing

Bit of an update. It has arrived. My bird was winding me up! Good luck tomorrow folks with getting your ST.
    Bin her.
  • Bit annoyed. Looks like I will have to queue on Saturday despite them having taken money in April 14th. Unless it turns up miracoulsly tomorrow
  • Amazing took them a day to take the money out of my bank and 4 months 4 days later so far still no tickets, upset yes I am.
  • I shall be there drunk and innapropriate as ever. One ridiculously small season ticket arrived today

Have one out of three paid for- Told by the ticket office that they were posted last week but if they don't arrive by tomorrow I should call and they will post them again- first class!

So if they haven't already arrived why would I want them posted again.......where the hell are all the season tickets?........... Isn't this a bit of a waste of time and money ?...........why so late when we paid earlier than ever?...........Why would I want to spend my Wednesday afternoon on the phone again?............Who is responsible for this debacle and when are they going to apologise?

One last thing but have club employed an extra from the Harribo ads to produce their answerphone messages?

With all due respect the season doesn't start until Saturday and it's only Tuesday. There is, in reality, no need to receive your ticket before Friday. They have changed the system which will have caused some teething problems. Worst case scenario you need to get to the ground a little earlier on Saturday. It's not as though you're dying and waiting for life saving medication is it?

Also April is far from being the earliest ever. One year they demanded payment by Jan 31st.
    Not that I recall. When?

  • When they say collect a 'reprint' are we talking a paper ticket for this game or a whole new card? I'm assuming the cards are plastic?

It'll be the ticket for the game I reckon. Remember the card's "in the post"
  • As Diana Ross once said "I'm still waiting"

I assume you have yours then? I assume you haven't had the joy of trying to ring the ticket office?

This has clearly been badly implemented and yes I think the prospect of the club having to resend a large number of season tickets three days before the season is waste of time effort and money and would be totally unacceptable anywhere else
Mine was issued to my Dad so I called the ticket office, waited in hold and they issued me another one that arrived the next day.

I know it's not ideal but it is what it is and no one is going to fail to see the game. It's kit as though they did this on purpose.

I suppose they could have pulled staff from other departments like those that sign players to post out the tickets but on reflection I think they are doing their best.

Maybe I'm mistaken but it was not that long ago. When MS and TJ were there.

Maybe it was the 31st March. It makes my comment incorrect but it is still, technically before April.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions - this means a lengthy wait on the phone and a lengthy wait on Saturday to get something which should have been sent weeks ago. It's a debacle - The Ticket office should apologise and steps should be taken to ensure that there is no repeat.

Incidentally I cannot for the life of me see how sending out seasons tickets on time could have in any way impacted upon signing players!!??

KHA at least you had a ticket where you could sort out the problem, those whose tickets has not arrived are being told to wait until Wednesday before ringing the ticket office, that will be too late to post out replacements so collection is the only answer. As the person who takes me is unable to get to the Valley before 2-30. That means I have either make my own way there by train, or pick it up on Thursday or Friday. It so happens that I am in Woolwich on Thursday afternoon but as the Ticket Office is closed so I will not be able to sort it out then. The number of tickets that have gone missing must run into hundreds judging by the comments on here.

There are also going to be teething problems at the turnstiles, so we can expect delays. I hope your ticket works and you do not miss the start of the game. I am sure you will be on here complaining if it happens to you.
  • Just back from a week abroad and no season ticket has arrived. Quick enough to take your money back in April but when you want the card/Ticket not one to be found.

Teething problems. On a par with Shane Macgowan's bad set.

I don't know what the problem is. I'm going to assume though that they either didn't start the process early enough, misjudged how much was involved or some unforeseen issue arose. Normally one solution to a problem like this is to pull resources from other areas to work on the issue and we only have a limited number of employees and in the close season many of them are working on things more important, like signing players. It is clear that the ticket office are swamped. I called early enough on Monday that I wasn't on hold for very long and the girl I spoke to arranged for a ticket to be issued for me and it arrived today. In fairness my issue wasn't non receipt of a ticket it was received but it was incorrect.

I suspect that the logical explanation for the club suggesting that fans wait is that they have sent the tickets and if they send duplicate ones and the original ones arrive they will have wasted money on postage and new tickets and they will have to go to the trouble of printing them again and, presumably, cancelling the initial ones they sent out at a time when they are busy enough.

My point was that, in actual fact, if most (or even all) of the remaining tickets turn up tomorrow or Thursday it is perfectly adequate as the season doesn't start until Saturday. When we paid for the tickets is, rather, irrelevant. We all knew that the ticket would be for the games between August and May next year. Those that feel aggrieved, and I'm one of those, at having to pay so early to reserve one's seat have a legitimate gripe with the club, even though I suspect that most clubs do it. It just has no bearing on the new tickets - especially when the new machines couldn't be installed before the season finished and there was always going to need to be live testing and training on them. I wouldn't be surprised to discover that the club wanted to use the new system for the West Ham game before sending out the tickets, and they came with a leaflet that mentioned waiting for the person in front to be in before scanning your own ticket - something that was mentioned on here after the friendly.

I can see why people are annoyed at having to chase up their tickets but I can't see why they are so angry at the club as I don't think this has been done on purpose. Sure, they might have sent some of the early tickets second class which might, with hindsight, have been a mistake but I can't believe that someone suggested that they send them all out really late to wind up the fans. More importantly I do think they are doing their best to rectify it.

If they sent out duplicate tickets on Monday and cancelled the initial one sent out what's the chances that fans would get to the ground with the wrong one and not be able to get in?

I would offer to get there really early on Saturday to help out but I shall be in Ibiza.

Do they not post out tickets for normal matches as late as Wednesday?

I appreciate how inconvenient it is having to make changes to the Saturday plans but as someone that has been waiting for a hernia operation for over a year and had two operations for cancer in the last six months I, personally, find these problems rather insignificant compared to the other ones I have, and find the levels of stress that people seem to be suffering, because of it, a little puzzling.

Lot of difference between Jan 31st and March 31st in terms of an "early" deadline though . . . I wasn't involved in the 2013/14 process, but I ran it in the previous years and we never did anything dramatically different on deadlines as far as I can recall.

Quite right, a lot of difference. I remembered it being 31st January but if you say it wasn't then I wouldn't question you. I only remember it because it seemed much earlier than previous years. I could dig out all the old programs and check which year it was and what the date was but I'm more than happy to have been wrong and suspect that you would have much more idea about this than I so accept that I made a mistake.

What I didn't do was intentionally use the wrong date to make a point.

What a crock of shit, you really are a knob.
Did you really flag my post as abuse just because you haven't received your season ticket and I refused to be angry with the club about it?

You are making yourself look very precious and rather spoiled. Does one not normally dare to inconvenience you?

The club say the tickets have been sent out. Are you calling them liars? If they sent out thousands at the same time there is every possibility that the Post Office might not have had the resources to deliver them all the next day. I doubt that many sorting offices have spare capacity for another ten thousand letters to be sent out in a week.

I made the observation that these tickets are not a matter of life or death and they are not even late yet - and you registered my comment as abuse.

I'm not going to engage in an argument with you because I can't be bothered and, frankly, I pity you and feel sorry for you that something so trivial has seen you get yourself so worked up.

Serious question, are you seven years old? I only ask because by the age of eight my son had stopped behaving like you seem to be over this.
Comment was on your totally inaccurate statement, (31st January lol)
need to get your facts straight before making such a ridiculous comment. Not me being precious but suspect you well maybe.
  • I get the feeling the ticket office phone is going to be rather busy today.

I've not received mine yet so I guess it will mean a trip to the ticket office earlier on Saturday which is a bit of a pain .

Is the phone line for the office still national call rate? I believe Airman said once before that this is due to BT's lines not being up to it and that the club doesn't receive the extra money made from this but it's a bit unfair that we as the wronged customers will have to swallow that cost .

No, they changed it but have doubled the booking fee instead.
