Hmm, a bit of a worry that as our defense is looking thin and weak too. Still, I'm a fan of Pope and think it'll do him some good to play for us for a bit.
Would have thought it'll cost us a few points though
So did Henderson have the scan on Wednesday just gone and the results ruled him out of (at least) the QPR game ? Or is he due to have one next week which will determine if he can play ?
Two Wins (Wigan / Derby) Four Draws (Huddersfield / Millwall / Nottingham Forest / Blackpool) Two Defeats (Ipswich / Blackburn)
That was under Bob Peeters who's Man Management skills werent the greatest it seems and based on some of the matches:
- Huddersfield... We could easily have lost that had it not been for Pope - Millwall... Should have won that had it not been for George's miss in the last minute - Ipswich... Should have drawn that one but for a 95th minute lucky goal - Nottingham Forest... No one was stopping that goal and he even got finger tips to it
We'll be fine with Nick in goal at the start of the season, never know, this could be the moment similar to when Weaver was replaced by Elliott (bar there being no Henderson howler)

we could easily have lost because of Pope!
Could we? I don't remember him being at fault for the goal.

If its what @CAFCFan1990 is thinking its the moment the Huddersfield player went round him and it was only a block on the line that stopped the goal?
Although wasnt that a sloppy backpass that started the incident, I cant fully remember

I like Pope but he was very shaky that day, especially first half. Agreed not at fault for the goal and made a decent save, but still looked very uncomfortable
Popey's kicking against Dagenham scared me. He was using the outside of his right foot for clearances rather than swing his left at it and he almost came unstuck.
There was another time a long ball over the top and he didn't call for it - Bauer left it for him and we were lucky that Pope spread himself and the striker was a shithouse and bottled it. Bauer and Pope at fault but we got away with it. When the Serbian came on in the second half he made a couple of good saves, I could hear him from the other end of the ground and his kicking was good.
Pope made a couple of saves too I should add.
There's not a lot between the two of them if you ask me but Pope doesn't try for the spectacular - his positional sense is usually good.

thats the one, only some excellent defending from Tal Ben Haim stopped us going 1-0 down early on and he looked shaky after that. Kicking was atrocious too.
So the choice of goalkeeper is either Nick Pope, who can make rash choices on coming off his line, or Marko who likes to stay on his line. The crowd really need to give 100% backing to whoever gets the nod. The 1st month was going to be hard enough as it was.
I like Pope but the Dagenham game showed me he's still the same and just don't think he's ready for this league. Seemed he was more nervous with the senior players in front of him then when he started the second half with the youth players.
Big setback but a chance for one of he others to shine. Pope apparently has so much ability but needs to toughen up mentally. An experienced CB to help nurture him would be great but the biggest boost could come from us. Who ever starts needs our absolute backing at KO.
not again .. f f s .. Pope needs to improve rapidly on his last season performances if we are to get off to a confident start.. Henderson's bad shoulder sounds like the injury that plagued Bryan Robson .. but is even worse for a goalkeeper
Pope was a nightmare last season when he played, there's various excuses that can be given but he wasn't good enough.
Lets hope this season he's improved, willing to give him a fresh start following his loan out.
"Nightmare" is a bit harsh - he's a young 'keeper who, really, should be out on loan picking up experience in the lower leagues. Because we only have one experienced goal keeper it looks like he's now going to get some of that experience against QPR, Derby & Forest !
Pope just needs confidence. He made a couple of errors, but he is still learning. I think he has a bright future as a keeper with us, but he needs to gain confidence. hopefully good communication with his defence will help.

Has there been any indication how long Hendo will be out for?
He went for a scan today.
From Dr Kish
Dagenham is the next stop on the Addicks' warm-up trail. Stephen Henderson will have a scan on Wednesday and is ruled out.
There is better news of Rhoys Wiggins though, his foot injury is not as bad as at first feared, and he should be fit in 7-10 days.
Would have thought it'll cost us a few points though
Stephen Henderson injured his shoulder during the warm-up at Dulwich Hamlet, and had a precautionary scan earlier in the week.
Henderson has been unlucky with injuries and has had shoulder problems throughout his career.
Normally a few weeks rest cures the problem, but sometimes a minor operation is required.
The likelihood is that the popular Irish stopper will miss the early weeks of the campaign.
Nick Pope seems to have established himself as Guy Luzon's preferred back-up keeper, and got praise from his boss in Belgium.
I have faith in Pope however.

Doubt that will happen though.
Wonder why Dmitrovic is not being mentioned?
