Pope just needs confidence. He made a couple of errors, but he is still learning. I think he has a bright future as a keeper with us, but he needs to gain confidence. hopefully good communication with his defence will help.
Wonder why Dmitrovic is not being mentioned?
It's strange - I actually thought Dmitrovc was the better of the two, but his communication with the defence seemed to let him down.

Doesnt help Dmitrovic that Pope has played more pre-season minutes... Be interesting to see who starts in goal tomorrow but would be shocked if it wasnt Nick

I don't know. Did all right when he came in before so it's probably a toss-up between the two.

mainly because Dimi was back late for pre season after playing for Serbia U-21's or some such where by all accounts, ask Prague, he performed very well.
Love how Nick Pope's kicking is what people dont like on here... Am sorry but one of our greatest Goalkeepers: Dean Kiely couldnt kick to save his bloody life and he wasnt bad in goal!!!!!

very true, but Nick Pope is no Dean Kiely.
Dean Kiely was 29 when he made his Charlton debut... Nick Pope is only 23... this is where fans need to give the players a bloody chance!!

Dean Kiely didn't play in the top 2 division till he was nearly 29 ! Nick Pope is 23 and we may find out soon if he can play to the standard of the championship over a few games. Because of one bad clanger it stopped his progress last season and what's between his ears may determine if he makes it at this level.

Too risky a position to be taking chances IMO - that's why Pope (and Dmitrovic) should be out on loan to get their experience.
It's madness that a team at our level has one senior goalkeeper, just looking quickly at other teams of our ilk - Huddersfield have two, Wednesday have two, Brum two, Cardiff three, Blackburn two.

where have I said I wouldn't?? IMO, Pope will never be a top goalkeeper, certainly not premiership standard but time will tell and I could be completely wrong.
Joe Hart made his Premier League debut for Manchester City aged 20... He played for Shrewsbury Town in League Two and kept less clean sheets than Nick Pope
Jack Butland made his Championship debut for Birmingham City aged 19... He played for Cheltenham Town in League and kept less clean sheets than Nick Pope
To get promotion in any Division you have to take risks

He did. My Serbian buddy, who was otherwise bitterly disappointed (again) by his team, is raving about him. Said he saved them from complete humiliation. On the night I saw him he really had nothing to do but his kicking was very good. The defence in from tot him was sometimes shambolic but he didn't go to pieces with them. But it's also true that he prefers to stay on his line.
If he doesn't get a chance now then I'm not sure why we lifted him out of Ujpest in the first place.
Just want to point out as well that I've nothing against Dmitrovic and if he does go in goal during Henderson's injury he'll have just as much support as Pope.
My sole gripe is the fact that fans dont think that Pope isn't good enough because he made mistakes during Bob Peeters' reign, especially when other First-Team players have come out voicing their disapproval over his Management style (Simon Church) or the change in form that we've seen from players since Guy Luzon took charge (Morgan Fox)
That is a real blow. I'm sure Pope will make a good keeper but Hendo inspires confidence in the defence and our results with him in nets speak for themselves.
Bummity bums That's bad news. Henderson completely steadied the ship when he came back last year. Great keeper but sadly fragile. Pope is a good keeper but appears to have fragile confidence. That may have been improved since he was last on view but with what's likely to be a completely new centre half partnership in front of him he'll need to be on his toes and have broad shoulders. I liked the look of Dmitrovic last year when he played. I'd probably be inclined to go with him over Pope but that would be a clear signal to Nick that he's not rated. Tough one for Mr Luzon.
Two Wins (Wigan / Derby) Four Draws (Huddersfield / Millwall / Nottingham Forest / Blackpool) Two Defeats (Ipswich / Blackburn)
That was under Bob Peeters who's Man Management skills werent the greatest it seems and based on some of the matches:
- Huddersfield... We could easily have lost that had it not been for Pope - Millwall... Should have won that had it not been for George's miss in the last minute - Ipswich... Should have drawn that one but for a 95th minute lucky goal - Nottingham Forest... No one was stopping that goal and he even got finger tips to it
We'll be fine with Nick in goal at the start of the season, never know, this could be the moment similar to when Weaver was replaced by Elliott (bar there being no Henderson howler)
Several mistakes in there though. Hope he's mentally capable of getting over them. Also I don't feel that a spent force like Weaver, who was making mistake after mistake, can be compared in any way to Henderson

I call him Marko.

Go on Popey!

Solly (Dependable) / Bauer (Experienced from Portuguese Leagues / Diarra (Experienced from a World Cup Final) / Fox (Familiar from the U21s)

Delicate little flower though, isn't he?
Thought he did well on Wednesday evening.
But would think Guy has a dilemma as to which of the 2 GKs to start on Saturday.
When he's in the team .............
Last chance for him at Charlton, if he gets the nod.
Personally, I think he has great potential, but can he realise it ?
"Ealing" I asked
"Not really, he's a right sick note" she said despairing....
