Average championship keeper if not good league 1 standard. Over rated himself and by others here. Not welcome back and he wouldn't want to come back anyway.
Average Championship keeper - well hes not, because he is plying his trade in the Premier League.
Over rated by himself and others on here - Can you show me where he over rated himself? Just an urban myth that he is "cocky" and "loves himself", no evidence of it. Based on this thread, it certainly doesn't look like people are overrating him, just slagging him off because they know that he was popular and because he has bettered himself.
Not welcome back - You'll be in a minority and I think its bang out of order to suggest that he is "not welcome" considering what he did for us in his time here.
here he goes again slagging off everyones views as though he is god himself....
No, off I went challenging a bunch of statements you made which I thought were wide of the mark, and quite harsh. Chip on your shoulder, clearly.
You've judged him based on his supposed behavior at Blackpool away. For that given occasion, there were dozens of others were he showed more than enough affection for the fans which you clearly chose to ignore.
No, I haven't taken a poll of fans. But I assume that you have? As you made the sweeping statement that he was "not welcome". What you meant to say was that he would not be welcome by you. And I stand by the opinion that you would be in a minority. Players like Danny Mills and Danny Murphy tick the "not welcome" box. Not Ben Hamer.

In MY view he is average, seen enough of his games to be able to come up with that conclusion. Plying his trade in the premiership, dont make me laugh we took him from Reading as 4th choice keeper cos they didnt want him and we were desperate. And hes plying his trade on the training field, look at the leicester boards to see how much they rate him.
Yes in MY view he was a legend in his own mind, and most of this thread are not saying what a great keeper he was in fact most dont want him back. If you went to blackpool on the last day of the season he was one of the first off and never stayed on the field long to say thanks to his ADORING fans of which many dressed up like him.
Not welcome back have you taken a poll then of all the fans.
Just MY views.
Chippy - (adjective) '(of a person) touchy and defensive, especially on account of having a grievance or a sense of inferiority'
"You've judged him based on his supposed behavior at Blackpool away. "
I also judged him on the number of times i saw him play not just at blackpool, read my post properly please
You attributed him having a big EGO based on what he did or didn't do at Blackpool alone. I pointed that out. Go back and read your own post. And read it properly please.
Did you see Hamer saves at Brighton in the 0-0. In the cup at Wednesday, the pen save at Leeds, And many ,many more, he left CAFC in Credit. We don't need him now because instead of a keeper who could go from a 5 to a 9 on the players marks, and then yo yo like that, we have Hendo who is 7.5 to 8 most weeks and is as safe as houses.
I liked him, bit of personality and flair and a bit of a joker. One of the Powell brigade when you knew the dressing room was together and made an effort to engage the crowd.
He won't be back though as IMO, Hendo is the better keeper and a) Hamer won't want to sit on the bench plus b) Hamers wages would not suit a bench player in our RD network model (and I agree with RD on this point).
Good luck to him. We left it too late to offer him a new contract, by which time a PL club had come in and offered him a career opportunity and extra money to boot. He joined us for free and did well for us, his distribution was first class and I wish him well.
I would happily take him back if we needed him but I don't think we do.
I dont agree with a lot of posts, but i dont tell people there wrong just because they dont hold/share the same view of me. I respect there opinions.
You do it all the time to others and i suspect if i was bothered to look back this isnt the first time someone has told you this.
The only time i do is to retaliate to idiotic responses.
Good for you.
If I disagree with someone, then there is nothing wrong with discussing why. Thats what I did. To say that someone like Ben Hamer "isn't welcome" is in my opinion very harsh considering how well he served us. And with this being a Charlton discussion forum, I don't see whats wrong with challenging it as long as its not done in an abusive manner, which it wasn't.
Henderson's only failing that I can see is his fitness.
If he could play 100 consecutive games what an asset he would be.
Hammer could be great but he could also flap and when he made a mistake his head went for a long time.
When Hendo charges out to take a cross my heart isn't in my mouth the way it was with Hamer.
Hendo makes errors like every GK but recovers mentally right away unlike Hammer.
My only issue with Hamer leaving is that the previous regime let him leave on a free so denying us a fee to aid team strengthening but that was the Spivs fault not Hamer's or Roland's.
Hamer was a good but not great keeper. Some of his distribution though was seriously top drawer, and if he improved some other aspects of his game then he will be a fantastic keeper (still might).
Get the impression as well he was a popular character and football is not just the couple of hours we see on a Saturday. Sometimes you need to have players like this on the training ground, in the dressing room and on squad bonding stuff away from the club.
Henderson though has been a step up in performance this season.
Loved Hamer, loved his beard, loved his attitude around the team, and thought he was a very decent goalkeeper to boot (Leicester would not have picked him up otherwise).
If we really do have one of the smallest budgets in the division we really don't need 2 first team quality keepers and associated wage costs. Money better used elsewhere.
However, if Hendo for whatever reason gets sold then sure I'd welcome Ben back for reasonable money. There's a reason he was our first choice for 3 seasons
I don't think it's all that big a deal, but I do find this slightly odd that he was at our game. It's not like Leicester weren't playing - they were. Shouldn't he have been at Burnley today?

the club that have choose a 42 year old over him the club that have apparently told him he has no future there

A good move for Hamer would be to go back to the West country and join the team he supported as a boy; Bristol City. Not sure if Fielding is a championship keeper ?. Wages would be the problem again. take a 50% drop in wages but play, or train and never play at Leicester, but see out his contract.
Would take hamer back here as competition for hendo
Nah, he'd want high wages, too high to be a simple back-up/competition option. And probably justifiably too, if there was a team anywhere in the middle to top end of the Championship table looking for a proven No 1 Goalie for the next few seasons they could mostly do a lot worse than Hamer, a lot worse. We aren't one of those teams though.

To coin your wanky phrase - MY VIEW.

Fully expect him to be at Leicester next term.

Only used in Kent I believe

assuming they will probably hit the town with Morro later, the 3 of them were close from what I remember

I am sure he really cares about them lol
