  • Finding a new (to me) bit of Maths info that will actually be of use to me.

I’m not sure how I didn’t know this before - but I found out that percentage calculations are reversible.

ie 7% of 50 is the same as 50% of 7.

This is probably the first bit of practical maths knowledge I have learnt in about 30 years 😄
cant see it being particularly useful myself though.

…yeah but what about if its 9% of 50? 🤓

    New to me. Cheers @SuedeAdidas

I think it could be very useful if you're working out a percentage in your head, it's a nice quick way of validating your answer.

    Exactly what I thought.
  • Putting the Christmas tree lights on an Alexa smart plug.
  • Bovril

Must be the jarred stuff though, not the powdered crap you get at the match that's full of additives.
  • Gordon Buchanan seems to be the real deal to me. His work in remote areas filming wild, dangerous animals or living with Tribesmen in the back of beyond is quite mind blowing.

I recently enjoyed his films of the Snow Wolf family and the trip to the far North on a reindeer sleigh to film the Northern Lights - quite spectacular.

  • Went up to London for a rare trip to the Office yesterday

Got back to St. Pancras that evening, and of course the trains back down to Strood were f**ked because a van had tried to go under a low bridge down by Teynham and wasnt able to manage it - Its like the world knew I was going up there, and decided to give me a trip down memory lane as to how frustrating it is trying to commute

Standing on the concourse I watched a shit load of people walk from Platform 11, round to Platform 13 to wait for the next train and there is me thinking... I wont stand a chance to get on THAT train!! - However I'm also watching the boards, as its saying that the train on Platform 11 is delayed not cancelled, which surprised me as it was delayed about 40mins by this point.

Then comes an announcement saying that said delayed train was at Stratford and would be arriving shortly, so I thought... "F**k it, I'm going to go stand on Platform 11 and wait and see what happens" - Train comes in, we all board (Everyone rushes round from Platform 13) - I even managed to get a seat!!

  • Thank fuck this didn’t happen

There’s still time yet that it may occur even if it is 31+ years later and I’ll be coming right back to haunt you from about 1996 cos you’ve just jinxed it and I’ll have moved on to another life if that happens
  • I wasn't there for Sporting Lisbon, and I don't remember that other stuff happening. I was there for their opening league game though. They got stuffed by Southend.  :D
  • Reaching 1k of Likes on here. Big thanks to @killerandflash for awarding me my 1,000th like after a full 19 years' service. I reckon I'm the slowest to reach the milestone.

Quality not quantity. You're averaging more than one like per post, which is better than me.

Ah, cheers, good to know. I'm effectively more than "a goal a game man" then. I'm basically prolific.

Ha ha, that's me. Rarely surfaces, a brief flurry, raised expectations then radio silence.
  • The piece of music Vale Decem (Farewell ten) written for the 10th re-generation of Dr Who - it is magnificent!

I'd not watched Dr Who for many years, but caught this on the Dr Who Christmas prom 2024.  I had no idea such gusto was put into the music.  It starts at about 40 minutes.

  • Relaxing sunny Saturday afternoons knowing full well that Charlton can’t ruin it and the upcoming week by losing to some crappy team that haven’t won or scored in 15 games but somehow manage to play like Brasil when they play us!
  • The surreal site of walking into a bit of a known rough pub to be confronted with several old blokes sitting in different areas of the pub all looking rather miserable whilst the soundtrack of west side story blares out from the speakers.

    Spanners' or nigels' pub?

Predominately spanners frequent this drinking establishment though it does take all sorts. Including a few anoraks. No Nigel's as far as I'm aware. They are the Puerto Ricans in this scenario. Just jets in here.
  • British nerdity. I am sure this will appeal to Charlton fans. Someone arranging for a ticket from every UK station to Northampton to be on display

    They're keen!

  • I've become very envious of people who have a real passion and hobby like trainspotters. I guess supporting Charlton is one but I'm not obsessive about it.
  • From the pen of manic depressive genius Spike Milligan:

    smiling is infectious
you catch it like the flu
    someone smiled at me today
    I started smiling too
    I walked around the corner
    and someone saw me grin
    when he smiled I realised
I'd passed it on to him
    I thought about the smile
    and realised its worth
    a single smile like mine
    could travel around the Earth
so if you feel a smile begin
    don't leave it undetected
    start an epidemic
    and get the world infected

    Deactivating my Twitter account.
Did this last week, along with Facebook.

Nothing political, Facebook is now pointless other than the local group which while funny, isn’t necessary. Twitter is a cesspit.
