Thanks PL54, the ticket office have replied and point out Section 1 which allows me entry and Section 14 as shown above. So basically they can move us when and where they like, they'll do it again in the future lets hope everyone is more understanding than me.

I have nothing more to say except that I'm not going on Saturday, that's my decision which affects only me, unlike our CEOs decision, have a good Saturday everyone.
  • In my opinion, that condition probably doesn't absolve the club IF (and it's a big if) anyone was prepared to take it further.
First, it's a condition along with the rest, that you don't get the opportunity of reading BEFORE entering into a contract with the club. The first time you see it (maybe) is when you get your season ticket card (as it will be next season) IF they bother to provide you with a copy. The OS still has the T&Cs for the season just ending despite having passed its deadline for paying for the next year's ticket!
Second, if they don't provide you with a like-for-like alternative they will be in breach of consumer legislation. Some such breaches are criminal in nature. (The legislation was partially put in place to help prevent people mis-describing tickets available for music events but it applies to all other events including sport too.)

So, in summary. they may get away with it as a one-off as long as they don't push people into crap alternative seating. BUT if they try it again next year they may find they have issues.

If they really think this is a good wheeze, and they might use it for the future, then they have a legal obligation to tell everyone before next season starts not just rely upon a probably unenforceable clause in the T&Cs. What they probably should have done is just shut down that part of the ground permanently, move everyone out and left it empty until such time as there was demand from the away support.

It remains to be seen what other measures they will be putting in place. How will they segregate/monitor home/away support outside the West Stand and keep "enthusiastic" away supporters out of the West Stand car park area, for example? I hope they have thought this through properly but I have my doubts.

  • Is it implied in the seat swapping event that the actual seat chosen is a significant part of the contract?
  • out of interest what would you do if you turned up for a game and found that your seat was inaccessible due to a safety issue but you were to be located elsewhere in the ground. Go home? Demand a season ticket refund?
  • Can't believe what Middlesbrough did, talk about taking any fun out of potentially upsetting the 5000 travelling Bournemouth fans, now we have to sit through 90 mins of watching them celebrate.
I know they still have to beat Bolton tonight, but they will 4 or 5-0.
  • even if they win they are still not mathematically up. A 30-0 win for us will se them in the play-offs ;-))
  • Remind me why Bournemouth haven't had a points deduction for ignoring FFP?
  • out of interest what would you do if you turned up for a game and found that your seat was inaccessible due to a safety issue but you were to be located elsewhere in the ground. Go home? Demand a season ticket refund?

I would demand to be allowed the right to die to watch my team from my usual viewpoint.

That's a different issue isn't it? You'd surely take a pragmatic view. It's very different from doing something on a whim.

Setion 14 says that if the seat is unavailable then the club will offer an alternative, that's fair enough is there is development going or a safety issue but in this instance the seats are unavailable because they have sold them to someone else.

I would assume that Bournemouth would enter and exit the ground via Valley Grove and that we will be marched around Charlton for an hour or so before being allowed entry to the train station or back to our cars.

Hey don't be a spoilsport, our CEO wants as many away fans as possible to enjoy the day.

It's a fairly rare set of circumstances though, the final day of the season and playing a team with a chance of automatic promotion, (and to a level unique in their history). It's not as if it was Brighton or Wolves in February and we gave them more tickets simply because more of them wanted to turn up?

From memory, is Leicester in 92 the last time we had such a game, and that was the final home game, rather than the final game?
  • Was that at Upton Park when we won 2-1?
  • iaitch said:

Yes, David Whyte Whyte Whyte (RIP) got a good goal that day, Leicester brought down masses of fans, some of which were escorted across the pitch into the empty chicken run stand!

Thinking back, at Upton Park away fans usually sat in home areas if the away end sold out
  • We played Ipswich on the last day when we won the Championship, they beat us but needed Man City to lose and they didn't.
  • Think that was a full house as we were getting the trophy after the game.
  • The decision has been made now.

What will matter is how the club review the whole situation and what plans they put in place for the future.

That we depend on how well/badly it goes in terms of incidents/access problems/unhappy home fans/police views etc etc

The club should make a decision, and put a plan in place, over the summer if they are going to do this again in similar circumstances.

If they are then they need to put provision in place in the summer and not a week before.

That might mean leaving areas of the West or East free of season tickets, putting up more barriers in the stands and on the concourses or creating more entrances and exits. Dropping the £200 ST in the H block could be an option and leaving this area clear for match sales.

In this case AFCB have paid for the all the extra stewards and police as well as the breakfasts. Not sure other clubs will be willing to do that but some will expect it the precedent having been set.

We have yet to see the impact on the other West Stand fans who haven't been moved but who will now be sitting alongside away fans.

And as seen above rightly or wrongly what has been done and the way it has been done has upset some of our core supporters. People can say get over it or move on but that's the problem. Some of them might just move on to not buying a season ticket. Emotional? Irrational? yeah maybe but so is following a football team. You mess with that irrational/emotional link at your peril.
  • Remind me why Bournemouth haven't had a points deduction for ignoring FFP?

Because the numbers haven't been released yet - much like QPR when they went up
  • I think it could have been handled better.

Re the emotional/irrational do you mean me?

No problem I've let off steam with others sharing my viewpoint and others telling to get over it, that's what makes these forums interesting. Be a bit boring if we all agreed.

I'm not going Saturday, I've sent my ticket and bribe vouchers back to our CEO with a covering letter.

I've renewed and asked if I can cancel if I want to, who knows, a few good signings, fixtures come out and off we go again.

Bournemouth passed FFP. I don't think they've spent much in transfers (net), as they received a large sum, was it £4m, when Soton sold Lallana to Liverpool. There was a 25% sell on.

They likely also got a big fee when selling Grabban to Norwich.

Are you not going, because they've moved your seat ?
Or are you not going for another reason ?
  • Because they moved my seat.
  • Did we know if our game is on sky on sat ?
  • will all depend on the result tonight. Bournemouth lose or draw and I expect it will be on Sky, Bournemouth win and it won't.
  • Probably not if they win tonight, they may concentrate on Derby, Ipswich, Brentford and Wolves.

Or maybe the relegation unless that's sorted tomorrow.

    Possibly Wolves/Millwall...I predict a riot.

Oh well, at least they can sell the seat to another Charlton fan.

I'm a bit late to this one but the way I see it their fans want to enjoy the day on the biggest game in the clubs history - and we have facilitated that. I'd hope a club would do something similar if we were in that position.

And it's more money for the club.

Or am I looking at this the wrong way?
  • With brilliantly timed engineering work, the Bournemouth fans will probably still be stuck at Waterloo or Victoria station when the match kicks off anyway
