Went only because I have a ST and having paid for it, feel obliged to make use of it. Waste of money, as was last season's. The Valley feels soul less. It's almost as if I'm a neutral fan, watching two teams I neither recognise or support.
Some suggested chants: "We all agree, Duchatelet's network is b*llocks" "We all agree, sell up and p*ss off to Belgium"
And, for the Huddersfield game: "Chrissy, swap with Guy, Chrissy, Chrissy, swap with Guy" "We only came to see Chrissy, came to see Chriiiiisy..."
The bottom teams have started to win and we have forgotten how to,and we know what will happen against Millwall. Hard to know how this can be turned around. We have no hold up forward and no attacking midfielder. The writing has been on the wall since September. Anybody still want to defend the 'network'?. This looks like the third transfer window when the squad has not been strengthened.
Bkackpool one win in how many ? Millwall first win in about 15 I think started to win is a bit strong
Any positives about Charlton at the mo Col? I need a taste of your world or I'm just going to give up.
When we scored, I just knew that we would sit back and invite a goal and said so to Telmc32. Feel sorry for Watt, not sure why he isn't getting more play time, not sure how he didn't get a pen.

was 100% a handball, but then again so was the one at the other end

I was on about when he beat a couple of players, then when he passed the ball, he got taken out from behind.
I said in the week if we play just one strikers at home i would despair. Play Watt with Igor. The starting line up was a set up for an away game. let's not bother to buy a striker, we are only allowed 1 on the pitch at any time.
How many more times are we going to invite the pressure in the last few minutes by all our players getting in each others way and giving a goal away.

If it is what I think you mean, it was a goo challenge watt went through a few players but took one touch to many the challenge came in and it fell to Buyens who had his shot blocked by the defenders hand, which is what everyone was claiming for
I think it's all down to see who we get in over the next 2/3 days. That will really tell us a lot about RD. Not looking good is it! My club feels like it's going down the toilet I'm afraid. RD - it's all down to you. Do you have the bottle?
If - and it's a big if - we get anyone then you know with Roland it will be a cast-off from somewhere else round his pathetic empire. We need more than one or two players and also things that Roland's millions cannot buy - passion, belief, skill and a manager who gets the club
@Mogodon, you're a hypnotic drug used for the short-term relief of severe, disabling anxiety. Questions - can I have some, and do they have similar for long-term variety? After Christophe's cameo, what sort of forward might we get in the transfer window if Roly has his way? We have become a club for clowns (present company excepted of course!)
We are limited with three defensive minded players in our midfield four. Lepoint doesn't have the ability to improve this. Perhaps Bulot and eventually Moussa may give us an option. Hope we can increase our bid for Wallace.
Rotherham were dreadful, I have not seen a team slice clearances and pass directly to our players so often for a long time, I am amazed they are not in the bottom 3 and puzzled how they ever scored 4 past Bolton midweek.
Sad to say then, we did not deserve to win, that is how bad the game was, lacking in any Championship quality.
The spine, soul and guts have been ripped out of our team with the constant stream of Eurotrash sent to us who just get worse each time. Who on earth is advising RD? Simon Jordan?
If LePoint is the new low they are going to struggle to beat him, that was the most embarrassing debut I have seen in 30 years as a fan. I laughed out loud at one point it was so dreadful.
Wiggins was very poor, lack of fitness/lack of confidence, I don't know but the key to our survival is getting him fit and keeping Solly fit and getting them bombing up the wings, they are our most creative outlet.
Buyens is supposed to be box to box, and to be fair to him, had a number of assists at the start of the season, so why play him so deep when we have a defensive midfielder next to him...it was like having 6 at the back much of the time, which when Rotherham were so poor was madness. YB just has not looked interested for weeks, I would rather anyone in CM than him at the moment, gives the ball away cheaply, no tackles and zero movement.
Unlike others, I thought Harriot was awful, I don't blame him though...he tries hard but he is a WINGER, not a striker, he was regularly the other side of the pitch from IV so when flick ons were won he was no-where near them, he should have been the one subbed....that said, when we are 0-0 at home to the fourth bottom team there is no excuse for IV throwing a grump and walking slowly from the pitch, it was a game that was too important to win for him to waste valuable time (even if we would have wasted it anyway), he is a PROfESSIONAL on good money he needs to act like one.
Whatever the pros and cons of Luzon, he is a new manager, in a new country he knows little about and it will take time that we don't have to learn and turn this around. RD is I am afraid, an idiot with bad advisors and Meire's inexperience and incompetence is not what is needed.
He needs to get an English advisor and fast, someone who knows the English leagues and at the least can advise the manager on tactics and the merits of our players.
Last thing...who on earth is the coach responsible for our set pieces this season, our defending of them is exceedingly poor as we all know (within first 2 mins Rotherham had a free kick and we put a 2 man wall that was probably 8-10 yards out of position, I have never seen anything like it even at Sunday League level). Sadly our taking is just as bad, corners rarely clear the first man and free kicks when we could pop the ball in the box are often knocked 2 yards sideways before the ball is lost. Schoolboy stuff.
Edit. Finish on a positive. Keeper surprised me, made one great save and commanded the box, a massive step up from The playboy Etheridge and the inexperienced Pope, hopefully we keep a tighter defence with him around. Solly was his usual greatness and nice to see 'one of our own' in JC score...it looked to have given him massive confidence with his slalom run shortly afterwards.
Luzon looked like a fan who'd won the chance to be in the dugout. The squatting, the prancing, the movement as though getting in space for a pass, the limp hand waves and arm poses, the posturing to the ref, he was like a big kid... I can see why we were warned he's like a clown by our Belgian posters.
At one point he shouted instructions at Solly who just shook his head, another time at Bikey who glanced up and then ignored him.
On this afternoon's showing Watt has been Charltonised.... although given what he must be thinking seeing Harriot up front ahead of him I don't blame him too much for a drop in performance (also maybe training with Spongeboot all week is rubbing off on him)
Lepoint was a complete joke of a debut, just have to hope he improves when he's settled in more.
Our Spurs loanee is alright but no Coquelin that's for sure! The new keepers kicking might be long, but that's no good when it goes straight into the arms of the opposition goalie half the time!
We didn't deserve to win so a point a fair result. Worrying thing is this team has the vibe of previous relegation seasons, the fans seemed flat at the end too. Beginning to seriously fear that we'll get sucked into it and not get out. The fact that Luzon has lost the fans, and it seems the players, already, doesn't bode well for his ability to pull us out of it.
Dejected and depressed about the immediate future for Charlton. The names on the scoreboard before kick off were a good reminder though that come what may this is OUR club and we'll be here well after Roland and his puppets have shuffled off....
Pretty grim stuff. With 2 defensive midfielders in the centre, and Cousins not a natural left winger, there was a desperate lack of support for the front 2, and swapping Watt for Igor just meant more of the same. Surely the point of playing Veljkovic is to have the other central midfielder further forward? Watt for Buyens, moving Harriott to the left with Cousins in the centre would have at least given us an additional attacking player on the pitch.
And why no other striker on the bench, surely one of Church or KAG should have been there?
Exactly what I was thinking and why I was so hacked off with the substitution plus all for those slagging off Harriott and Vetekele - what service did they get? Our midfield is one paced, no bite and nothing going forward - did it change when watt came on for vetekele? No. You'd expect a new coach/manager/puppet (whatever he is) to get some sort of reaction from the team but we are going backwards - was wavering over renewing my season ticket before the game - definitely won't be now - totally hacked off!
We are limited with three defensive minded players in our midfield four. Lepoint doesn't have the ability to improve this. Perhaps Bulot and eventually Moussa may give us an option. Hope we can increase our bid for Wallace.
I actually agree with u for once tonight but bulot and moussa ain't good enough we need a player in the middle who can dictate the way we play ie tempo movement someone who runs the show and the rest play around him , unfortunately we haven't had anyone since Andy reed and before him class Jensen .
A year ago we were in a worse position but we had some fight in the side. Today just felt meh, we probably have better player's in certain positions but none of the fight and passion you need to survive at this level.
Walked away thinking this is the most un-Charlton like side we've ever had. And I don't like it.

He wouldn't be. Massive gulf in class and quality between Arsenal and their ever overshadowed neighbour.
That was bloody awful today. Too many players without any fight or heart. I am normally optimistic about our chances but after today's dire performance even I am starting to become concerned. Surely Gomez & Watt must start next week, only Solly TBH & Cousins came out of the game with any credit.
My take on it now I've had time to have something to eat & on my 2nd glass of wine........
1) might as well send the number 5 back to Spurs or are we trying to break the record for the number of defensive midfield players in 1 team. it was all far too defensive today.
2) now that JJ, Bulot, Moussa etc etc are not in the team please can we teach someone else how to take a corner, Solly is a great right back but he is NOT a corner taker.
3) I don't know if Igor was injured, but assuming he wasn't then why take him off and not Harriott
4) Harriott is not a striker
5) but he has pace & once he was replaced by Gomez then we lost some threat up front. Watt cant hold the ball up on its own & it took Rotherham less than 2 mins to work that out
6) good teams can hold onto a 1-0 lead. We are not a good team. Should have gone for the 2nd to wrap it up.
7) No good hitting high balls to the front 2 if they are a foot shorter than the defenders. Apart from not winning the ball it meant that we lost possession and let Rotherham start their slow build up play all over again.
8) Desperately need a tall / big /strong hold up player - see point 7.
Although a win would have moved us 6 (SIX) places higher to 12th, it would only be papering over the cracks. As every week passes I am getting more & more convinced we are going down, I have been saying that the game at the Den at the start of april would be the biggest game in years but I fear by the time we get to that game they will be above us. Cant see us getting much from the next 5 games and Wigan away is now more than a 6 pointer than today - lose that one & its curtains.
Tonight, Fanny is somewhat of a nervous disposition.
Changing my recent habit, I've read all the posts on this thread before posting my thoughts ...but wish I hadn't.
The thing is, guys 'n gals, I didn't think it was that bad ....honest ! And having read the scathing comments thus far, I'm wondering whether I should air mine. But, hey, my skin's pretty thick ...even though you may feel my eyesight leaves a lot to be desired....
OK - it wasn't what we were hoping for. But what did we really expect ?
As usual, I won't comment on the pros & cons of playing players in certain positions but what I will say in defence of GL ( yes, that's defence) is that he's managed to get more from both Buyens & Guddy than Big Bob managed to do IMO. Whether how they played today was enough for you or not, I saw a big improvement from both taking the last 3 games into consideration.
On the subject of positives, I'd like to add that young Jordan was MOM for me again, following that accolade last Saturday & hence he appears to be working very well under the new regime...with a goal to boot !
Chris Solly will perform under ANY management & continues to do so, whilst TBH & The Beast have looked more like their early season selves since the Watford debacle. And the new goalie didn't do much wrong either.
But, and unfortunately it's a big BUT, we still can't score goals and therein for me lies the biggest problem. Here is where I will agree that I'd much rather have seen Tony Watt x3 up front with Igor because although he may have marginally improved of late, Callum H should not start in my book. Use him as an impact sub by all means but he gives the ball away/is dispossessed far too easily and is SO not the answer to our problems in that area. Surely TW should partner Igor from the start ?
So, that's the team examined. But what about the way we played, you may ask ? Well, on the plus side, we scored our first goal in the league since Boxing Day and are on an unbeaten run of 2 games - that's a reasonable place to start. I know that passes went astray at crucial moments in both build ups and defending but I honestly feel the team is less disjointed than in the last home match versus Brighton.
We've had a change of manager - I believe most will agree that was a positive move - but whether Guy is the man to turn things around remains to be seen and we can only guess whether he is in total charge of team selection or not. There's been a lack of rumours regarding the atmosphere in the dressing room since he arrived so we have little idea if he's begun to mend some fences between factions therein that were allegedly broken under Bob. We can but hope......but it is early days, of course.
We badly needed a manager/head coach who would hit the ground running but, Watford aside ( I still believe that was just a bad dream! ) he's not done too badly. There's still a long way to go before our safety is ensured and both players & their management have a fight on their hands. But all those who were at the 5-0 pasting, followed by the game at Molineux and then today, will have witnessed some positives in the 2 draws achieved. Those unable to travel away probably hoped for much more from today and hence have vented their frustration here. The results achieved by Blackpool and Millwall this afternoon only enhanced those feelings ( believe me, I am not immune ) And with Boro', Norwich & Brentford on the horizon, it won't get any easier. Who knows what the next couple of days will bring regarding additions to the squad. One or two with Championship/Prem experience would not go amiss....but that's out of our hands. All we can hope is that the squad builds in confidence & camaraderie over the next few games and that our angriest supporters will stifle those unwanted boos & replace them with clapping next time, however begrudging.
This may not be OUR Charlton. But it's all we have at this moment in time. No-one, least of all the players, management, owner and fans want to fail. And I have to believe that things WILL only get better albeit not overnight.
The booing of the substitution was classless from the fans. Vetokele was having a poor game and his substitution was completely justified, regardless of what your opinions of Harriott were ·
The reason the sub was booed was that we need to play two up front. Fact. Harriot is being played out of position. Let watt and IV have a chance to play together. We are in a real mess.
Disagree that Rotherham were the worst team at The Valley this season.
Blackpool, Brighton & Millwall were far worse.
Rotherham were pretty direct but they got the ball into our box a lot more than they should have. This is exactly what Charlton should be doing at the opposition end - we are simply not getting the ball into the oppo box enough.
Gudmundsson & Solly our best two.
Watt looks promising and hope he can get up to the required fitness level soon.
Thought we might have snatched a victory but as soon as Harriot went off, to be replaced by Gomez, I instinctively knew we were inviting trouble.
Heard that 2 Newcastle scouts have watched our last few games and my money's on them having JBG as a target - he is a very good footballer.
My big, big issue with this team is what the fook are we doing with our defending of set pieces and aerial balls in general? We have two of the best CB's in the division but as soon as the ball comes in from the flanks - and usually deep crosses, we are buggered. The full backs MUST play a role in defending these - it happens so often that the coaching staff must be either blind or daft - or both.
Comments
Waste of money, as was last season's. The Valley feels soul less. It's almost as if I'm a neutral fan, watching two teams I neither recognise or support.
Some suggested chants:

"We only came to see Chrissy, came to see Chriiiiisy..."
Thats my take on the game.
I cant see how anyone can see it differently, apart from people wanting appear knowledgeable and seeing things that others dont.
You dont need to look too deeply into that match to see it for what it was; shit.
I did think the pitch was very good, thanks Roland for taking that excuse away.

When they did,we turned to each other and just shrugged, which is understandable in a cynical fifty year old but not a 12 year old boy.
We went to the British Oak and had a game of darts which was far more entertaining.
Sad to say then, we did not deserve to win, that is how bad the game was, lacking in any Championship quality.

We are in terrible form and cant buy a win. Can't score goals and the midfield is massively unbalanced.
Need to get out of this form quickly. Got 3 tough games before we play Wigan and huddesfield.
Worrying times ahead. I think we will be in league 1 next season.
