  • I guess this nail biting, Rourkes Drift approach to a game is us making the best of the resources we have. Nightmare to watch but still better than watching gallant defeats.

I really quite enjoyed the second half watching on the stream -not a nightmare at all. Tend to agree with Bob that we were in control - I have been much more nervous in the last 10 mins than that - we looked solid and confident, and it would have been all over sooner if George had buried that chance.

Lyrics for the 'hair' song please, and is it to the tune of 'Stevie Gritt'?
Watching on the stream there seemed to be a bit of a new chant that went on for about 15 minutes late in the second half, what was that?

To answer the second question first Yes.

No not the the same as Gritty's song, variation on the theme.

'Oh Bob Peters, Oh Bob Peters
He's got no hair but we don't care, Oh Bob Peters'

Second verse same as the first ad infinitum.

You'll soon pick it up Seth but might get chucked out of the West Stand singing it :-)
Wasn't the Gritty song sang to an old Boney M number? No idea on the tune of the Bob Peeters one, a sure sign of being an old git I'm afraid.

Charlton are an average well organised side, well that what BBC Radio Berkshire said on my way home, well what does that make Reading.

I started the day with a networking meeting in the Reading Hilton and look who I bumped into. Then onto a Reading based Charlton fans home for beer and burgers and then onto the game.

Excellent performance and a deserved win. Other than the 2nd third of the first half, Charlton were the better team, even though we did not play at our best.

Fox looked a bit shaky first half but was coached along by TBH, Solly was excellent defensively and his cross for the goal sublime, although I do think there is some way before he is at his very best offensively.

Vetokele showed he is a class above anything else we have up front and took his goal well, hopefully his slight injury improves before Millwall, but he works hard for the team and he battled for the ball before passing to Solly who crossed for Igor to head in.

Overall a good team performance and excellent singing by the fans.

Is Bikey wearing socks and sandals? Someone else can tell him...
I felt that my life was not worth mentioning that to him

    Not really up on Boney M @Stig‌ but the the lyrics for Gritty's song went;

'Stevie Gritt, Stevie Gritt, Stevie Stevie Gritt,
He's got no hair, but we don't care
    Stevie, Stevie Gritt'
  • How was the sit down / stand up / you're in my seat stuff ?

Nicely swerved @RedChaser . I notice that there wasn't a queue of people waiting to confirm it ;-) Here it is, for any one brave enough to listen; the chorus is on 43 seconds. Is this the Stevie Gritt tune?

All standers stood at the back, not many of us but everyone got involved in that second half.

The great difference is that we are less likely to buckle this term with Hendo TBH and The Beast creating a formidable barrier in front of our goal!

Long may it continue as I am less susceptible to sqeeky bum syndrome over the last 20 mins or so!

That stadium is so well designed I don't think it would matter much if you wanted to sit and the person in front wanted to stand. Brilliant views.

Have just watched extended highlights on the player. Our goal is a great example of pass and move, how patience is key to creating an opening.

Bikey dribbles forward and lays the ball off to Fox, the ball moves on to Harriott who holds up play extremely well against a first, then a second opponent and plays it back to Bikey. He sprays the ball across the pitch to big Tal who feeds Solly down the wing and the rest is history.

    Great goal.

Just wish the clip started earlier and we could see how many extra passes there were in the build up.
  • Gritty song followed up quickly by -

There was a cauldron of noise on Saturday, with most Charlton fans sitting down....

And plenty of leg room for my tartan blanket and flask.
