  • Having not seen it again yet I didn't think Georges misses was that bad. I thought that he should have scored but credited Feferici for the save. Might think differently once seen again.

How did George not put that one in the 2nd half away?

Because he's not very good at football.
Bet you wasn't saying that when he scored against Derby and Bolton.
    No, I wasn't. I still think he's pretty shit.

George's hold up play does need to improve but he's only 23 and in his first season in English football. Might be one of those players that just needs more time to adapt.

I agree with this. He's not been very effective for us but might be one day. I believe there is a decent player in there. Big jump in football standards and culture for George. He may yet come good.

Would like to agree but after today am disinclined. 3 yards out, centre of goal just the keeper to beat, running onto the ball, the only thing to his credit being he made a good contact with it. Seems to be a striker without striker's instinct and we shouldn't be carrying that type of player up front. Not wishing to sound viewfinder-esque, but there has to be a limit.

Leeds commentators pointed out on Tuesday he had done generally nothing, after he failed to jump for a header. I hate to single a player out, and would gladly re-think on a second viewing of today's chances (it was 2 chances as it came back to him from the keeper), and if it's a mental thing or he is dealing with off the field issues i hope we have the people to help with that and again would gladly cut him some slack.

    Just got home..........

great all round team performance & a little unlucky not to score a couple more - thought George could have taken a touch first, but then JJ did that a few minutes beforehand & his shot was blocked. Didn't really see Igor's goal as it was down the other end & my eyes are currently a bit suspect, but just seen it on Sky & it was a brilliant finish. Just hope he is fit in 2 weeks time.....

back 4 immense again and some great passing moves from the midfield. I don't think we are a top six side but if we can stay there or thereabouts come Jan then p'raps RD will get us the striker we need.

looking at the table & comparing it to last year shows this season is a lot tighter with no stand out teams. At this stage last season Leicester were clear with 37 points.........but had lost 5 games, which just shows its the number of games you win, not how many you don't lose. Also, after xmas, there always seem to be a team that goes on a winning run (we did it in 2000) and one that goes on a losing one (blackpool last season). This season I think Fulham have started early I reckon by xmas will be up with us in the top 10 - just wonder who will drop like a stone once the decorations come down ???
  • Could only follow the match thread but today is a great result. 2 weeks now for Igor to rest up as he needs it without international football. We are a tough side to play against and beat, bring on Millwall
  • A really good result that with the 2 week break coming up. We can regroup, give some players a bit of a rest and get Coq up to speed. I think he's going to be a big asset for us.

Hopefully we can be still up there and challenging come the January transfer window so RD will get his wallet out.

Very happy in Walnut Creek, California today. :-)

    COYR!!!

  • Hitting the ball straight at the keeper from 5 yards with no defenders in front of you is nothing about a 'change of culture', he is just awful.
  • George's miss means it's all the more important we sign a quality striker in January. We are borderline mid-table or sixth place just like several other sides and millions under FFP (rip) limits. Blackburn and Forest will not be allowed to sign players so we can edge it and get on a run. This division isn't easy but this squad is the best since we left the Premier League - two more quality signings and there's nothing to fear.

To be fair to George, I thought gudmundson could have played him in a bit earlier which would have meant he wasn't so rushed,a greatvdaybout hairy drive home, but fans were immense today as were the back 5.

Tell me exactly what he brings to the team?

And don't cite things that you think 'might be in there somewhere', because that can be said about absolutely anyone registered to a football club. What does he actually do that a typical striker should?
  • Just shows stats mean jack sh#t
We only had 39 of the possession
They had 12 corners to our none
Just gotto believe we can beat anyone when Igor the beast plays
    Get in 3 lovely points
Millwall we are ready for you

George always seems more effective when he's able to move onto and run with the ball, rather than static as the ball comes to him.

  • Nothing of use to add, except that I hugely enjoyed Tel and Finchy's commentary, and that was a fantastic result which I really didn't see coming.

I agree he has looked lost and hasn't done as well as we might have hoped. But the key word there is hoped. Not expected. As said above he's 23 playing at the highest standard of his life, adapting to a new country, club and style of football.

I think he has a decent touch and has potential. That's all. He might not make it with us but I'm not writing him off yet. You obviously have.

So there isn't anything you can answer my question with about what he actually does that a striker should do?

  • Posting before sobering up.

Great "jingle bells" day form the Irish pub in the town to the performance and the result.

Did a job on RFC who huffed and puffed but could not get passed Solly or Fox(seemed like the player of last year). AB and TBH solid, Henderson sound on crosses and made the one big save.

    JJ worked hard as ever.

Harriot played a different game today. Retain the ball well and not wasteful but couldnt work a clear opening. As soon as he went off Reading stepped up 10 yards as we had no pace.

Very impressed with Coquelin and BP will have a decision to make soon.

Igor didnt get many chances but worked hard and took his one opening clinically.

The full kit wanker was funny.

    Great support too.

    Jingle bells

No corners all game. Bloody hell that's relegation form.
We need to keep hold of George and Callum for when we're back in League 1.
  • So happy. Love entering an international break after a great away performance

I agree, there have been moments of real quality, for example the goal against Derby, and he's made some good passes and some decent chances for others. At the moment though they are shiny diamonds of quality embedded in a stinking pile of manure. Now whether Bob can mine this manure to get at the diamonds or he'll just stink the place out remains to be seen, but I still think he CAN come good, though I don't know that he will.

Also, that was a awful comparison, I don't know what the hell I was on about. Oh well.
  • From their forum - someone called Bikey overweight. Madness. Someone else then added
I would welcome Andre Bikey back in a heartbeat. He's not your play-it-sideways-like-a-crab defender that Adkins seems to love. Instead he is a total rock in defence. He organized the Charlton back line, and time after time he made crucial interceptions and clearances. Compare and contrast with our leaky back 4. With head or foot he excelled.
  • Brilliant performance at the back. Solly was my man of the match, he defended superbly throughout and put in a peach of a cross for the goal. Bikey ran him a close second though - he was as solid as a rock. Very impressed with Henderson, anything that went near him was plucked straight out of the air and when they had a shot near the end I can't remember a keeper spreading himself so wide - there were arms and legs everywhere. I was a little concerned in the middle at times; we gave the ball away carelessly and were caught ball watching on a few occasions. I guess that's why Coquelin was brought on. Early on I was thinking it was probably the best game I've seen from Harriott for quite a while, he looked a bit livelier and keener than of recent, trouble is though that by the end of the game I was still left wondering where the final ball was. Too many times he ended up giving the ball away or running into trouble rather than making the killer pass or the testing shot.

As for Reading, they looked a bit clueless today. I hate to piss on people's bonfires, because I think everyone's in a good mood about today's game, but I think they made it a bit easy for us. Given their ineptitude, I'd have like to have seen a bit more action up front from us.

As others have said, the crowd were great in the 2nd half.
