are we really having a dig about Leeds singing a few old classics and actually making an atmosphere I mean .... The fact they got any atmosphere going ,when for all intents and purposes we are as dull a fixture as they will come across all season , with only a handful of fans there , is a miracle When we sing a few old school songs it's a great thing ! Would we rather they sang fabricated modern shit like palace , pleeeeease
Take the pee out of them for being shit and northern yeah but scum element apart their support is something we could (well a weirdo like me) only ever dream of
As opposed to always digging Charlton and there fans out.
Talk about a tale of 4 goals, ours were scrappy and theres were great but they all count. There player was left acres of space to pick his spot for both goals, was Henderson boots superglued to the pitch for their second.
A couple of decent additions and we would easily beat this sort of team. Reading will be a different lot on Saturday as i live close to their my mates who support Reading have been whinging about them all season.
It's strange how different people view the game. Speaking to Leeds fans on the bus back to the station they thought we were very impressive in the first half, and felt relieved that they had not conceded a goal during this period. This view must have been mirrored by Redfern as he appeared to send the Leeds team out early with a flea in their ear.
Our view was that although we had some good possesion we were quite conservative with our forward movement, and a lot of the passing was sideways or backwards. With Tucudean and Harriot unable to hold the ball up in the attacking third we could not build up any attacking momentum. Tucudean had the poorest game in a Charlton shirt, unable to hold the ball up for the midfield to support him or win any headers. His first touch was a continual problem, and was rightly subbed. Harriot has made little progression, he seems to play on instinct rather than thinking about the build up of play, consequently often makes the wrong decision.
This all sounds a bit negative, but generally it was a solid performance. Coquelin looked very promising when he came on. Backs to the wall in the last 15 mins with Wiggins off injured. Coming from behind (twice!) always makes a draw more satisfying.
Final thought, although Mowatt's strikes were impressive, he appeared to have loads of room on the edge of the box. We are usually good at throwing our bodies in front of shots from the 18yd line, but both times there didn't seem to be a Charlton midfielder in attendance, playing too deep perhaps and not picking up the players in promising shooting positions.
Good game and an OK turnout for a Tuesday evening. Best chant of the evening was: "You're getting sacked in the morning, you're getting sacked in the morning, sacked in the morning, you're getting sacked in the morning..."
The Jimmy Saville chants were pretty distasteful though, also done by millwall I believe...
I have a horrendous hangover and will post my player marks after I've drunk a few more tropicanas but our penalty was ridiculous really. None of the players or fans appealed.

Anyone think Henderson could do better for both goals ..
Without seeing angles from behind the ball, i dont think we can say.
Even so, i can give Henderson some slack, i think he's done well since he's come into the side and our defence looks organised and tough to break down, which shows good communication from the man inbetween the sticks (in no way am i pointing out you think otherwise by asking the question btw)

simply making a comment based on what was seen.
ok shit, northern and lacking in vocal creativity if not atmosphere and noise. sorted.

THIS with knobs on ! Well done altrinchamaddick for saving me the job of posting this!
Still wiping the crud out of my eyes as a 3am arrival home means a Sleepy Jean ( cheer up !) Wanted to post my thoughts at that point but although the spirit was willing, the flesh was definitely weak..
Have quickly scanned the posts above and agree that we didn't play at all shabbily, albeit the performance was a bit like the curate's egg.
Not wishing to point the finger at a particular player but Callum H still disappoints me in spades. Lost the ball when in possession time after time & IMO should have been subbed sooner. Maybe Bob should have a word with JR for some tips on how to get the best out of this young man. The new boys showed promise when they entered the fray and hopefully will build on this at the Madjeski. The "oh no!" moment for me was another foot injury for Rhoys who had been looking back to his lively & consistent self - fingers crossed he's back sooner rather than later.
We fell behind to 2 crackers from the European Champions but maybe their man should have been closed down quicker for his second. Easy to pick on individual errors etc in retrospect but all in all, we played some good football & it was an end to end tussle much of the time making it an exciting if nerve wracking 90+ minutes.
My thoughts are with the other 302 hardy travellers who may or may not have had to turn up to work this morning. It's a tough life following our lads all over the country but someone has to do it. Having missed our only 2 defeats thus far this term, I'm hoping that I'm developing into some kind of lucky charm. Maybe Bob will ask me to lead the team out from now on, or perhaps, wear me around his neck.....!
Well done to all concerned last night, both on & off the pitch. See you at Reading .
Harriot only performed in the last month or so of the season bar that he was woeful and a prime example of players with huge talent that are not mentally strong enough to become more than a league 1 player, the step up in consistent performance to be a championship player is huge, callum doesn't possess this and subsequently will soon not be a cafc player that's very obvious
I said last season that this one is huge for harriot and unfortunately for him and us the talents he has won't be on view here for much longer
Until he is able to cope with performing for 90 mins as a 6-7 out of 10 player he will never make it as a good player

This! Riga performed wonders coaching performances out of Harriott and Sordell last season to steer us clear of relegation. But Peeters and CAFC now have much more flexibility to bring in better players to improve the front six. We've seen a number of players go out on loan already and I wouldn't be surprised if January sees a couple more players coming in and a couple being sold / going out on loan. Selling players is a vital part of the budget and Harriott might fancy a fresh start elsewhere?
I have a horrendous hangover and will post my player marks after I've drunk a few more tropicanas but our penalty was ridiculous really. None of the players or fans appealed.
I felt this was a fairly evenly balanced game, with Leeds being the more likely team to win. It was only the second time I've been to a match this season and so it was interesting for me to form some impressions of the new team and the way it plays.
Overall I thought we looked like a mid-table team. We were well organised at the back and I can see why we've been so hard to beat. By all accounts the two centre backs have been the strongest part of our side this season, but it was interesting to see how different they are. TBH was very impressive: very calm and thoughtful, always in the right position and with time to play. Bikey was completely different: muscular, good ability on the ball, but a bit of a chancer. Last night, he did some good things but made too many mistakes.
The weaknesses seem to be further up the field. Cousins, Buyens and Jackson played as a midfield three. Although I'm not unhappy with any one of these three being in the team, collectively I think they don't add up to enough. They work hard and are generally well-disciplined, but they lack pace, sharpness (slow to close down around the box or pick up the second balls) and creativity. Coquelin looked promising when he came on for Buyens (who I thought was the best of the three, especially in his use of the ball) and it may be that he forces out one of the regular threesome.
Of the front three, Gudmundsson was impressive, always finding space, able to keep hold of the ball and to use it to good effect. Tucudean and Harriott were very disappointing. Harriott worked hard; he saw a lot of the ball, but struggled to keep control of it or use it well. Tucudean didn't win anything in the air and was not effective in hold-up play and bringing others into play. Harriott hasn't played too much this season and this was a chance for him to stake a claim, but he was unable to take it; Tucudean has played a lot, but I think that is just evidence of our weakness up front.

erm, have you seen it again?
Exactly. It was quite like the one Shawcross conceded the other week. No-one appealed because they are seldom given, and they should be because that was a clear foul. Good spot by the ref.

Tucudean is no better than Reza,ie not good enough for this division. Finding another forward is now the one thing standing between us and staying in the top ten, assuming Coquelin is both the real deal and also wants to stay longer (big ask admittedly).
Two decent goals from Leeds I thought. Not sure if Hendo could have done anything about either, but I have only seen them once in the tele.
He could start by not diving once the ball is already in the net. I'm starting to worry about his ability with long range shots.
what are you actually basing your worries on? the two goals last night and the sheffield wednesday goals? there is absolutely nothing he could have done about any of the goals.

Tucudean is no where near as bad as Reza in my opinion.
Maybe it is just me but I have been fairly happy with George and think we have looked a better attacking team with him in the side.
a good performance from everybody .. Leeds scored two virtually unstoppable goals and we grafted right back and took a point, great stuff .. the new boys came on and did a good turn, it was a shrewd move to put Onyewu up front and pump balls up to him, that kept Leeds on the back foot just when we needed it .. pity Wiggins is injured again .. terrific that Bellusci, number 5, the Leeds central defender is getting such a bad name amongst referees with his petulance, fouling and accusations of racist language, our penalty might not have been given against a more amenable central defender .. all in all a good night in Lovely Leeds

JBG plays 90 mins and scores twice.
Coq gets 35 mins and tackles well (something we have lacked...)
Onyewu gets a taste.
Solly gets a rest.
Buyers gets a bit of a rest.
We score twice away from home.
We stop Leeds getting 3 points.

Some really mixed reviews on the player marks thread for Harriott as well as for JBG in the central role. How did they both get on?
