That first goal might wind up our goal of the season. I cannot emphasise how fantastic it was. Worth turning up just for that.

    This!
We might not have more than 40% possession but a Christmas highlights dvd is just going to show clinical build up and finishing... And I've seen Cousins play those killer balls to Vetokele a few times this season so it's not just a one off.
  • We need to stop giving up goals off of set pieces, and stop giving away so many dumb set pieces as well. other than that I think it was a good result and im happy to have another 3 points
This! I'm convinced that if we scrapped zonal marking, we'd be top of the league! How many have goals conceded have come direct from set pieces or in the following passage of play when we're totally disorganised? I can think of Brighton, Brum and tonight but I'm sure there are more.....

I think people need a massive reality check-I don't think we were terrible tonight, we defended superbly (again!) with Henderson and the back four in great form. Special word for Wilson who I thought was as solid as a rock especially considering he hasn't played right back this season.

We are lacking the flair and attacking prowess to break down teams when we're full strength so to nick two brilliant goals tonight and to see it out was a great effort and you could see that the players were flat out at the end.

Sod the unbeaten lark, winning tonight was better than two draws and hopefully we can nick something on Friday. Either way although it isn't pretty, with the squad we have, we're doing brilliantly.....
  • Just got in, can we buy the little china man from bolton as this is the sort of player we are missing from our missing....

    he's korean, you dinosaur

    Go to bed.

3 points are 3 points, however you get them. Back 4 looked good, although Wiggins can be better I'm sure.

First game in over 3 years so was over the moon to see a win!
  • Pretty much a standard Charlton display of this season. Score a goal then let the opposition keep possession, it does show the lack of quality in this division that in pretty much every game now we've had less possession but only one defeat. Thought our defence was very good tonight, Tucadean showed he can do it at this level which was good.

Negatives are the Yoni and JJ midfield combo, second half they were chasing shadows at times, and it certainly doesn't help with us keeping possession
  • Not a classic by any stretch of the imagination. Two pretty poor teams, but an entertaining enough match despite that. I certainly wouldn't be queuing to buy any Bolton players; some of theirs were better than some of ours on the night, but none were that great. Despite the possession stats, I think we shaded it. We were the better side until we scored our second goal at which point our midfield seemed to lose all sense of purpose. They were better after that, and encouraged by their goal. Fortunately (again) our defence remained pretty solid. Two big differences overall, our defence was better and we took our chances.
  • Yes, we won
    Yes, its 3 more points
Yes, we were missing 3 of our best players.

    BUT

If you think that game was entertaining then think again. I've never seen a team ride their luck game after game. Absolutely abysmal that a home side can have 1 corner to the opponents 16 & just 2 shots on target all night. We didn't have a meaningful attack after we scored our second goal - that's 39 mins +6mins injury time of sitting deep and defending. SHOCKING.

I cant wait for Friday - we will get laughed out of town if we put in a performance like that.

    With respect, bore off.....

  • Two superb passes by Buyens to set up an air shot for JJ and then the pass for GT's goal.

If anyone thought we were outplayed, then you missed the debacle at Bournemouth we were better tonight not brilliant but as has been said another 3 points, 22 in total. Note Bournemouth thumped Reading!

As Prague suggests, just three more players, particularly for me to bolster our midfield, creativity is good, need a bit more protection for the back 4

  • That was a bit nailbiting at the end.... but a good result even if we were on the back foot after we scored our second. Back 4 all good - was it Wiggins or Wilson who cleared off the line? Bulot and Moussa a bit anonymous, george took his goal well and set up JJ for 2nd. No complaints from me, he needs more game time. Cousins worked hard, not everything came off. Buyens was good but faded, as usual. If our defence was on a par with our midfield or attack, Bolton would have won. The last 30 minutes or so were pretty much all theirs. Ref was abysmal - seemed to want to play everything Bolton's way. Never mind, we won!

  • Two poor teams. Missing three important players and with a squad like ours that's a big miss so we did well but helped that Bolton weren't great. Three goals, and numerous efforts by them, but neither keeper had to make a decent save which says a lot in my view. They had more of the ball and shots etc but didn't actually feel that threatening going forward but we couldn't have moaned if they got the equaliser.
GT after a shaky start where he chose to fall over rather than getting stuck in, took his goal very very well and good play to create the second, Well played by him overall today I thought. Midfield the weak link again but we know that now and there's not much we can do about it without players coming in. Overall another great result but don't really understand how we are doing it, but long may it continue. Looking forward to Friday.

Neil Lennon chant by some simpletons as expected.
  • It was 100% better than Saturday , which tells you how poor we were then

we have been out passed in every single game this season, so what's new.
The two goals we scored were cracking,
George started off like Reza, falling over 4 or 5 times, then decided to show how good he can be by
his goal and the assist for JJ.
I thought Moussa was strong on the ball and did some great turns, buyens good but faded after booking.
They didn't create many chances, considering how much of the ball they had.

The rock of this team are the CB's with Wilson's help tonight.

we are a mid table team punching above our weight,

    Long may it last.
  • Our centre backs are as good as any in the division another solid performance, Buyens deserved a MOM rating on his first sixty minute performance alone. All our incisive, fast passing come down our right side.George started the game impersonating Bambi on ice but a great goal and assist can only have bolstered his confidence. Cuz covered a lot of ground but I feel with little end result.
  • After Saturday that was an improvement. Although not great it was better and we won so happy days. Missing three key players, Gomez unavailable too, the squad is paper thin and the bench is ridiculous. When Harriott is the most experienced offensive player you can bring on then your options are limited. Add to that Bulot not yet up to the pace, speed, commitment levels of the Championship, Georgie too, and Moussa not having had much game time, then you are going to be incohesive.

Major plus was George showing he is capable and in my opinion is still adjusting to life in the Championship.

Major worry, Wiggins is going backwards. Very lucky to keep his place.

Team selection on Friday will be interesting but with Solly back at least we can push Wilson into RM and Cousins into CM alongside JJ. Bulot on the left with hopefully Igor up top alongside George. Not too shabby. A youthful bench again though. A loan signing, or two, would be nice.

  • Buyens much better tonight and althought our midfield did not keep any possession in last half hour it was better and Bolton were actually very good in attack, better than expected. Back four were again superb. Moussa was absent and lacks confidence but we are not a charity. Tucudean needs to stand up more and be strong. Need vetokele back asap. Fulham on Friday has to be better than our 0-4 a few seasons ago and vetokele needs to be there.
  • Deserved it after Lennon slagged us off
  • As I said a few days ago jackson always gives 300%
  • Familiar pattern. Fleeting glances of quality football and long periods of soaking up pressure, often self inflicted. Got to admire how we defend as a team though and restrict the number of clear cut chances. Great effort tonight but would like those quality periods be sustained for longer.
  • We were crap apart from two very good goals, the first was a miracle, George looked useless before that, and mostly useless afterwards, moussa and bulot also very very average, missed solly too.

We looked like we were never going to score. I left with about ten minutes to go (don't think I've ever done that before) as it was unbelievably cold and awful to watch, and I was convinced we would concede.

Agree the zonal marking, and space during normal play given to their players by our midfield was crazy, misplaced passes, inability to hold on to the ball, or the forwards to hold up the ball or win anything in the air put huge pressure on the team. The toll on our defence will start to show through in injuries and bookings, perhaps it already is.

With all that it was an awful but astonishing win, and very hard to enjoy. Can't see us maintaining wins playing like that particulalry against better teams.

  • The short memory brigade still out.

Just wish we played 2 touch great entertaining football and lost.

    If you want great entertaining fast fluid football the Champions League was on last night, theirs your alternative;
  • Easy Street is clearly not located in London SE7.

Bloody hell we concede so much possession week in week out, it scares me witless.

We get a way with it because?

1 We have a solid defence, a class above the rest of the team.

2 The opposition, generally, have no clue and no end product. Thank god.

The day we meet a team, on song, equipped with accurate shooting boots, is going to be a painful thing to behold
