I know, thank God it has knocked Syria and that blasted IS organisation off of the headlines, how boring that was. Have the Society of Black Lawyers anything been informed?

Well it's knocked Clarkson off the headlines at any rate. I agree, ridiculous. The idea that the leader of a major political party saying that employers should be allowed to discriminate on grounds of race two months before the election isn't newsworthy at all. Quick, someone call the society of racist employers.

I would doubt that they would be allowed to exist Jints...
  • They would under UKIP it seems.

Really? have you a link to their manifesto, that's disgraceful? Is that on the BBC site?
  • The report I read about Farage saying that employers should be allowed to discriminate on the basis of race is from the Telegraph. He's since back tracked saying that he only thinks employers should be able to discriminate against immigrants.

UKIP doesn't have a manifesto yet (nor do any of the other parties).

I was under the impression he would allow employers to pick the person they wanted to pick, no matter their race.
  • He said he wants to get rid of the Race Relation Act 1976 which prohibits employers (and others) from discriminating against candidates on the basis of race. So, for example, a company could lawfully advertise that only whites (or blacks for that matter) need apply.

There already are jobs advertised on that basis. Been going on for years.
  • What is Channel 4's obession with UKIP? If any of the broadcasters allowed transmission of a documentary that predicted a collapse in society and a dystopia if Labour or the Lib Dems won power, there would definitely be serious trouble with Ofcom. Yet UKIP is fair game. I completely disagree with UKIP's policies but the partisan, wall-to-wall coverage we've seen on every negative aspect of UKIP from both C4 and the BBC without a similar level of coverage of the same kind for the other parties is simply not in the best interests of democracy. Let UKIP make idiots of themselves by themselves, they seem to do a good enough job of it.

  • I agree with you on that terrible mockumentary, which as propaganda goes had only the merit of being utterly ludicrous though it was balanced by the syncophantic program with him and the gogglebox couple. Not really sure that C4 can be blamed for interviewing Farage (amongst others such as Blair) in a documentary .

Here are just a few. I haven't got time to trawl the internet looking for more but I am certain I would find plenty more especially those from local authorities and other public sector departments who have been advertising jobs for ethnic minorities only for years. Greenwich council were well known for it. Don't know what they are like now because I haven't read any of their rags for years. All in the name of equality I might add!

But it seems in those stories the ads are taken down and the companies who placed them were under investigation. Not really sure what the point is here.
  • Surely the point is that they placed the ads. They were only taken down when they got rumbled and people complained about it because it's blatantly racist. The point is that these people had the gall to assume that placing ads like those was acceptable when it isn't. If there were ads that said "Whites only", would you get the point then?

I was just surprised that they were legally allowed to get away with it if they existd, obviously they did exist. There legality is questionable.
  • Four adverts over five years all getting lots of press coverage, doesn't tell me that the law is being breached on a regular basis.

There are some genuine exemptions where it is legal to advertise for a particular ethnic minority (e.g. for acting and certain social worker jobs).
  • There are a lot more than 4 adverts such as this. This has been going on since the beginning of political correctness and there would have been thousands of ads like those.

Sorry I don't think I understood your post. I thought you were saying that these sort of ads are placed therefore Farage is right to want to abolish certain discrimination laws.

  • Gordon Brown said in 2008 " (I want) British jobs for British workers".
  • Surely under current law, whether they were placed or not is irrelevant. The issue is if this law was abolished, they wouldn't be breaking any sort of law.

    Bizarre.

Ah, the old "there's loads more of this shit knocking about... I just can't find any actual examples of it" argument.
Who said there aren't any more examples? I found those during a 10 second search. If you want to find more, why don't you look for yourself?

I like this fallacy he's employed. If you found 50 examples to support your argument, he would argue that he needed 51 examples in order to consider your argument valid.
  • Exactly, am glad you noticed that lol

Because, of course - You'd noticed that yourself. You just needed a grown-up to articulate a response for you.

  • Has he joined the Greens then?
  • When he said British jobs for British people, it was meant as a promise, NOT a threat!
