Yes night game (I think).twiggyaddick said:I seem to remember we hammered someone 5-0 that season as well, think it was West Brom.
That season was so enjoyable, that year we beat so many teams i'd always watch us struggle against such as Wolves, Bolton and Sheffield United0 -
On fire? I didn't know that. That they finished the game is impressive, let alone won.Charltonparklane said:
We were literally on fire that night.hawksmoor said:We might have been, mate. I remember us being 1-0 down to Walsall away during that run (I seem to recall Graham Stuart conceding a penalty). I believe we ended up winning 4-1. I'm pretty sure that was midweek, too.

It was Barnsley. Kiely's debut. Mendonca hat-trick I believe, the first being a sumptuous volley from the edge of the box.hawksmoor said:It was either Bolton or Sheffield United that was the first game of that season. Mendonca scored two from the spot, I remember. Then, I'm sure we lost the next game, our first away game, to Fulham.

Cheers, dabos. My memory of that season is not that great, after all. Were two of Mendonca's goals from the spot, though?0

Seem to recall Kinsella scored from a free kick - not directly, but following a proper training ground routine that involved various players running in different directions to confuse the Baggies defenders, a couple of short passes and then MK stuck it in the bottom corner. Could be mistaken, but I don't recall seeing us do anything like that before or since (apart from our long standing corner routine, whereby the taker raises either one arm or both arms to let his teammates know where the corner's going, and then kicks it straight at the nearest defender!).cabbles said:

12 wins in a row and just seven goals conceded in that run.0 -
Whatever happened to Steve Barbé? Curbs was signing Belgians before it was fashionable.0

the only one I could find unfortunately. Parker popping up with the 2nd.....1 -
Love Newton's goal there. He has a shot that's deflected back to him and it's almost like he got annoyed about it and thought, 'F*cking stitch that, mate!' then launches an absolute rocket.1

Unfortunately someone else said that it is very hard to find Charlton goals from that era on youtube. Shame really as I would've liked to see a replay of all our 90s season videos. Someone put up the 94/95 season on the David Whyte thread, but that was all we've got. There's some losses on you tube, like the final game of the season away at West Bromhawksmoor said:Love Newton's goal there. I was at West Brom away. We were already champions and they had to win to stay up. When I saw Carl Tiler on the pitch, I knew Curbishley didn't have the heart to send them down. Sure enough the Baggies won 2-0, bearing in mind we'd lost our last home against Ipswich the previous week. Hence, on the train home, the chant goes up, 'We're sh*t and we won the league!'0

Pretty sure Konch got his first start at WBA away that season...remember being surprised to see him on the pitch (ahead of Powell I think...). Things I remember from that game: cute WPC standing right in front of @Oakster and I throughout the game and @Oakster's car getting blocked in in one of those dodgy 'park here for a fiver' car parks... That was a great season...@Oakster driving everywhere, I had a CAFC supporting boss who just let me go absent for midweek away games (Wolves and Walsall spring to mind), I was one of the few who made it to Grimsby for KO (they had decent pies), Huddersfield away at Xmas, @razil and @Clem_Snide being ever present, as was @Riscardo and numerous others...very happy times...0

I was at every game on that 12 game run and only missed about three in the season and can happily say that they are some of my best memories as a Charlton supporter. A young man with disposable income (another distant memory!), going on great away days like Stockport and Huddersfield making loads of pals on those long drunken train journeys and most importantly, watching a successful team with no flash harries, just 11 men who you had total belief would give 110%.
Brilliant days.......

Thats the run that got us promoted. Pretty mixed after that but still got enough points in the run to guarantee promotion.fielderdaniel said:According to wiki we managed 15 games unbeaten from 4 October 1980 to 20 December 1980. Come on Charlton only 4 more to go.
