  • Weren`t we 1.2 down in that Grimsby away game on the Friday evening?
  • We might have been, mate. I remember us being 1-0 down to Walsall away during that run (I seem to recall Graham Stuart conceding a penalty). I believe we ended up winning 4-1. I'm pretty sure that was midweek, too.
  • That game was on live midweek on sky I remember.

We were literally on fire that night.

Probably the easiest I can remember Charlton winning a game.
  • All I remember from that Walsall game was Martin Pringle hitting the post from about a yard out.
  • I was going to post a similar comment about Stockport at home that season. It's the first and only time I have ever felt sorry for an away team. It was a 4-0 men-and-boys mullering.
  • We was literally a prem side, don't think we sold many after relegation.

Prob the most enjoyable 3 or 4 season periiod can remember.

I believe that one was 4-2. Was doing my A-Levels that year. Massively caught out as the teacher I had for A-Level P.E knew I was a Charlton fan. He also took me for that very silly A/S general studies that teaches you nothing about everything. I skipped the class to go to the Bescot. He caught a glimpse of me behind the goal after we scored and he saw the goals on TV. Oh dear. I'm the same as you mentioned above. Give me any game from my childhood/teen years, remember them vividly. Once we get to 2002/03 they all blur into one.

Was it Grimbsy we beat 5-3 away on a Friday night that season?

5-2. A number of people got there late and missed a few of the goals because of heavy traffic. Rufus scored that day I believe
Classic weekender that one was !

Deep fried Mars bars (to see what they were like). Tuborg lager on Cleethorpes pier. Having to name moustachioed Charlton players in the pub after about 8 pints & chatting up someone's wife in the pub, whilst he was right there.

4-2 indeed it was. I watched it from a very small skiing resort in France with little bro' (on here as Jimmy Melrose). Funny thing was that there was a big group of Jocks getting all p***sed up to watch the Old firm derby, only to find it was being shown on BBC Scotland and not available in France.......whereas little ole Charlton was on Sky and therefore available for all to see !!

The 12 game winning streak started I believe against Palace at home. We were 1-0 down then, off the top of my head, Pringle and John Salako got a goal each.

Yes, then Huddersfield away, a John Robinson screamer on an early kick off at the McAlpine the game in between boxing day and new year's day.
Great season and real, top quality Charlton team.
Watched the udders game in The Pelton

  • Great trip down memory lane coming from all. The 12 wins were

    26 December 1999 Crystal Palace H 2-1 20,043 Salako, Pringle

    28 December 1999 Huddersfield Town A 2-1 17,415 Hunt, Robinson

    3 January 2000 Nottingham Forest H 3-0 19,787 Shields, Stuart, Hunt

    11 January 2000 Wolverhampton Wanderers A 3-2 18,464 Rufus, Pringle, Robinson

    15 January 2000 Crewe Alexandra H 1-0 19,125 Stuart

    22 January 2000 Norwich City A 3-0 15,642 Hunt (3)

    5 February 2000 Stockport County A 3-1 8,185 Hunt (3)

    12 February 2000 Wolverhampton Wanderers H 2-0 20,043 Stuart, Brown

    15 February 2000 Fulham H 1-0 19,940 Robinson

    26 February 2000 Sheffield United H 1-0 19,249 Robinson

    4 March 2000 Bolton Wanderers A 2-0 15,000 Pringle, Hunt

    7 March 2000 Walsall A 4-2 6,227 Hunt (2), Kinsella (2)

Taken from Wikipedia so not a patch on the stat sourcing to the legendary Colin Cameron. For me I was so pissed off we didn't do Bolton in the QF of the FA cup, really saw that as a good opportunity given I had only experienced the Man Utd QF in 94. Also missing in that run of wins was a great 5th round cup win at Coventry away. Real elation when we nicked in the end 3-2 having been 2 down after 10mins.

One I remember was Wolves away in the night. Again, bunking off my A-Level classes, went with my dad and uncle. A classic disaster on my dad's part. Going up the m40, he stops to get petrol and mistakenly puts unleaded in a Diesel engine. Had to call out AA/RAC whoever it was, my old man is fuming at his error. My uncle, also fuming at him, decides to order a cab for the last 80 miles of the journey costing him about £125 quid because he's desperate to get to the game. I go with my uncle, my dad has to get towed to a garage, he arrives at full time to pick my uncle and I up. He missed a classic as well, great win. Fair play to him for coming to pick us up. My uncle also swore me to secrecy about the cost of the cab so his wife didn't find out.
  • Our first win away at Wolves for a long time, remember John Robinson scoring a great diving header at the far post.
  • Norwich A 15,642 !
  • Gregg Shields scored an absolute belter against Forest in the unbeaten run.
  • Norwich A 15,642 !

Also note our home attendances. Just goes to show how clubs pick up 'fans' from playing in the Prem. We were just relegated and getting close to 20,000. They've just been relegated and got 26,000 against last week, yet only 15,000 back then
  • Norwich A 15,642 !

coincided with the Farmers Union conference I believe ;-)

  • We was literally a prem side, don't think we sold many after relegation.

Prob the most enjoyable 3 or 4 season periiod can remember.

I think it was just Danny Mills to Leeds and Neil Redfearn to Bradford. Not many clubs are able to do that these days.

    Ah, maybe it was!

Me being one of them. Got there at half-time. Took my seat just in time to see Grimsby make it 2-2.

Surprised we go there at all to be honest. Went on the coach an the driver got lost. We were driving round a one way system in Nottingham 90 mins before kick off!

  • What was the game at home that season when we were losing 2-0 at half-time but ended up winning 3-2 comfortably, with about 20 mins still to go? Was it Port Vale? It wasn't part of the 12-game streak. I'm sure Steve Brown got the first goal; an almighty thumping header from about 15 yards. Anyway, I'll always remember it, as two Charlton fans started fighting near me in the East Stand at half-time. Proper blows, the lot.

Tranmere at home - Brown, Robinson and Rufus.
  • Cheers, mate. Of course, it was Tranmere.
  • Was that a cup game, the Tranmere one? I was there but can't remember if they were in the same league as us at that time.

League game on 26 October. Don't know why, but we'd already played them at Prenton Park on 25 September (2-2), strange quirk of the fixtures list.

Despite having an absolutely superb side that season, we still managed to exit the League Cup at the first opportunity, losing on penalties to Bournemouth after drawing 0-0 home and away.
  • Didn't we get to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup that year? Losing away at Bolton. And then we played Bolton away in the league maybe two weeks later and beat them 2-0.

We did…Claus Jensen tore us apart and Jääskeläinen had a worldy.
  • I seem to remember we hammered someone 5-0 that season as well, think it was West Brom.

That season was so enjoyable, that year we beat so many teams i'd always watch us struggle against such as Wolves, Bolton and Sheffield United

It was either Bolton or Sheffield United that was the first game of that season. Mendonca scored two from the spot, I remember. Then, I'm sure we lost the next game, our first away game, to Fulham.
