Love that there is more detail on the protection of bats and birds than just about anything to do with the building &/or pitches!

Looks positive, with the recommendations to accept within the PDF. Hopefully, no barriers from the committee themselves.

from our, and the Clubs, point of view we should consider it fortunate that there are no GCN's on the site

  • Hope the plans are a success, not only for CAFC, and the community trust, but the local football teams, and community who are promised use of the development.

  • Anyone going this evening ?

Here's my summary of the position.

There is nothing in the report to cause the club any concern whatsoever, as far as I can see. I would say that the planning consultants have done a good job on its behalf.
  • thanks Rick, what sort of time would you expect for Boris to give his verdict.

I don't know much about this aspect of the process, having only been involved in the planning system outside London in recent years, but I suspect the mayor can opt to call the application in and review it or just nod it through. Assuming the latter, I doubt this will lead to any significant delay, but I am guessing really.
  • Just hope Boris doesn't kick us in the nuts in retaliation for the OS campaign.

He was happy with the OS campaign yesterday. Dumped it all on West Ham and washed his hands of it.

I doubt he was happy. Just making sure as little shit as possible sticks to him when the truth comes out.

  • WOOHOO ! Thanks, Sam !

Better get our spades out to dig up the Garden !
  • Do like the sound of this in the VOTV article:

"Some preparatory work has already taken place on site at Sparrows Lane and the club should soon be able to proceed in earnest, subject to Duchâtelet underwriting most of the cost, which is expected to run into eight figures."
  • Very good news

The lower level windows will be okay but those on the second floor might be at risk during shooting practice...

    But seriously, good news!
  • Excellent news, but a pity that....'although as previously reported here the community element has been dramatically scaled back from what was agreed last year'.
at least for the local football community, but I always found that part of the submission was a little 'aspirational', hopefully Charlton will in time be able to share some of these resources.
After all it is these very clubs where the aspiring academy players are largely selected from. But that aside excellent news for CAFC, and the Community trust, as well as all supporters.
  • First step in getting the top category so clubs cannot poach the best younsters for peanuts
  • Excellent news.

Being saying for a long time that this is the real acid test of Roland's commitment to the club.

5th December 2016 was the target date foe the handover.

That may have have slipped but hope it is as soon as possible

  • goes this mean that Boris has also signed off on the project?

I think the plans for the adjoining former Bardhill club included "Sports pitches for a range of age groups to participate in various sports".
I'm not sure if a decision on those plans has been reached but perhaps that, along with building relationships with the neighbouring footscray rfc (and not sure if any plans for the former co-op ground) this could be a way of fulfilling the initial aspirations.
  • I thought the "Bardhill" site was owned by a housing company who also own the old GAA site at Avery Hill who are in dispute over the building of houses there.
  • Was down the Valley on Monday night for the Acadamy's boys signing contracts for another season and we were shown an in-depth slide show of how the complex will look like once finished. They are starting work on the main building April next year and should be completed July 2017? The inside of the main building looks amazing! I'm praying my boy will still be there to reap the benefits? They have started on the two new 3G pitches at the top which should be ready in 5 weeks? While the works go on Charlton will use 2 pitches on the university side and 2/3 pitches on the other side of sparrows lane.

Is Category 1 status possible before completion of the whole project, or only when all in place? Also, does the new complex "guarantee" category 1 status, or is that also contingent upon other investment, e.g. number/standard of dedicated youth coaching staff, medics etc?

goes this mean that Boris has also signed off on the project?

I think that would be putting the cart before the horse, so I doubt it. But it's quite usual to simplify the process for public consumption. For example, I don't believe the 1991 consent to return to The Valley (technically to build the planned permanent west stand) was ever signed off because it was contingent on a section 106 agreement that was never completed. Since Charlton never built that stand either, it didn't matter, but the fact remains we all stood there and cheered something that never quite happened and has been written into history by me among others as a great victory.

I think that the GLA is consulted in a two-part process - first it gives an opinion as a consultee which feeds into the Greenwich process and then the decision is referred to the mayor, although he can perhaps indicate in advance that he is not minded to intervene. You'd have to see the minutes to be sure, but I don't think it will be a problem either way.

The initial community aspirations were all about the funding and presentation to get it past the planners, i.e. the 2014 planning statement's claim that the development represented the "totally inclusive ethos" of the football club. Roland didn't want the money at that price, so they were kicked into touch for "operational reasons".

The advantage for the council is that it was contributing substantially towards the cost of the improved access on to Footscray Road. By taking out the community aspects the club was able to argue that it doesn't need that access because it isn't going to go above the 2014 approved level of traffic via Sparrows Lane, so everyone's a winner, including the council… and that's how the planning system works!

  • I believe category 1 will be guaranteed once the complex is finished!
When the slide show was over and Tony (can't remember surname?) asked the boys if they had any questions? An under 8 put his hand up and asked can the U8 use the swimming pool?? Lol
