Colchester away in the cup. Can't remember what year but was early 80s. We won 1-0 with an own goal I think.
We got battered for most of the match, I think Hales got sent off. Dickenson put in a last minute cross that a defender put between the keepers legs. Didn't even make the back of the net, it was very muddy. Away end was packed and the stand began to fall apart, remember planks of wood being passed down to the front.</blockquo
I went to that game with my Dad, in the car. He rear ended a car (oooerr) on the way back, a Charlton fan, who lived on the same estate as us. Seemed pretty amazing at the time.
Can't remember many details but it was QPR sometime in the late 90s, we lost.
Edit: text my dad and he says it was actually a 0-0 but he can't remember the season, im sure someone on here could tell me.
December 99
He's right, was my first away game also, think Chris Kilomya (spelling) got sent off for them. I have seem to remember more about Coventry away that season as it was out of London.
Fulham away November 1975, followed a month later by the 3-2 win at Chelsea. Got a bit lively after that one as I remember.
I was on one of the Lewis coaches at the Eastville (what a dump that was) 5-5, George the driver doing his usual welcome "Any bricks come through the window, pick 'em up I'm building a patio"
Wolves in 5th round of the FA cup. They were a top league side at the time and we took 5-6k. It was an amazing atmosphere and one that I will always remember despite losing 3-0.
Palace in 74/75. Our promotion season. I was 12 & waiting for the 75 bus, which my mates were on. It came past full up, with them waving out the back window. I trudged home & told my Dad, who then drove us to Selhurst. Palace won 2-1, but Paddy Powell scored a 25 yarder with his left foot.
First that I can remember was January 1980. 3rd round FA Cup at Plymouth. There was a gale force wind blowing which Colin Powell exploited to score direct from a corner. That's the one and only time I've seen that done. We won 2-1.

the 75 to palace. having a few in the Standard, jumping on the 75, then all jumping off again in Lewisham bursting for a wee.

I went to this on Lewis coaches with my brother and a couple of mates. On the way there one of the windows fell out of the coach on the motorway. It was bloody cold on the coach on the rest of the journey to Plymouth. You are right, the wind was unbelievable and we went 0.1 down early and I remember Nikki Johns made some brilliant saves in the 1st half to keep us in the game.
2nd half was a different story as we had the gale in our favour and as you say Paddy Powell equalised from a corner which crept in at the near post. We were all expecting a replay but then a young Paul Walsh broke down the left and put in a pin point cross for Killer Hales to head the over the keeper and into the net for the winner with about 5 minutes left sending the away fans into a frenzy.
We were then taken to a pub after the game for about an hour while we waited for our coach to return with the window replaced.

Clive Mendonca's final competitive appearance for us I think.

Two full up 75's went past us outside the DG Pub in Woolwich. Eventually got on a bus at 2.30 with about 30 others Charlton fans.
Got to the ground at half time and a Charlton fan standing outside the ground on a green BT Junction box thingy told us we were 2-1 down. We ran round to our end and as we were running the Police assumed we had been up to no good (apparently a fan had been stabbed outside the ground). After protesting our innocence and being frisked, we got in after paying full price.
Amazing turn out by us that day. Revenge was sweet in January 1976 with a 1-0 win at the Valley. Killer, of course!
My first was port vale - 1997?Mendonca scored a pen went up on the free coach. I'm not sure if it was this game or another one around that time (possibly forest away) where the coach driver got pulled on the way up for speeding? Anyone remember that?

We took about about 50 coaches up to that, played woefully and somehow nicked a win. Paul Mortimer had been in blinding form but I think it was this game that he got injured in, and it ruled him out for the rest of the season.
The first of the away day "Operations", and possibly the only one so far that's resulted in a win.
8th January 1969 FA Cup, beat Palace 2-0. Went with Lewis Coaches from Woolwich. Stood on the coal dust before it became Sainsburys. Brilliant view of the kick from Charlie Wright, nodded on by Matt Teas for Ray Treacey to score from the edge of the area - I think!
1967 Millwall at the Den a goaless draw. We would settle for that result these days.... have a feeling that Big Bob will help us turn them over this season.
Highbury in 2000/2001 for the 5-3. I had only just got my first season ticket and then my best mates dad got free tickets for this game. I sat in the top tier with the clock/away fans to my right
*visions Graham Stuart running behind the net after scoring*
Portsmouth away, though I can't for the life of me remember the year. Late 70's or early 80's would imagine as went with my dad! Remember we were awful and our (third choice?) keeper had a nightmare, think we lost 3 or 4 nil. That was also my first ever Charlton game.....
Brighton at the Goldstone in the '90/91 season. Took an early lead, went 3 1 down and a Garth Crooks consolation couldn't stop us sliding to our tenth straight defeat. 300 away games later and I still have vivid memories of the day. A rare thing to be an away fan on an open side terrace. Good times.
This was my first away game too. I remember a group of Charlton dishing out some stick to a Brighton player on the wing, something about him being a sex case, but didn't have a clue what that was all about!

Clive walker had been accused of flashing (don't know details)
I remember Ian Pittman giving him grief all game. At one point he was taking a throw in right in front of us. Ian was on the fence shouting (it wasn't nasty but fairly lighthearted) Walker stopped, turned round came up to him and said "come on mate, give it a rest"

Ah, that's who was getting the grief! It happened everytime he came near us. I was right down the front at that game too. Mind you the crowd surges usually ensured that.

Ha, I remember that and if I recall correctly, he was found guilty of flashing. I seem to recall that he was standing on his balcony flashing school girls. West Ham fans used to sing Walker Walker show us your c*ck.
I'll never forget the look on your face when the crowd in the tube station after the game pushed the old wooden ticket counter over and looked like it would land on you.
I actually got punched in the gut by a friendly copper, as everyone was surging the ticket booth.
December 1984 Oxford United away we lost 5-0 and it was as cold as you like , Vince offered me £5 for my "silk" Charlton scarf which was a weeks paper round back then but I refused Shit away following and shit result ....... I was Addickted to it !
One of the best things of modern football is the away numbers being confirmed , cuts out all the bullshit , I like to deal in facts
Best bit of that day was getting drawn vs Spurs in cup.
Found out by listening to the draw on Radio 2 on the train home....
1st and best Coventry away FA Cup 2000 2-0 down after 20 mins and won 3-2 thanks to a 88th min winner from Andy Hunt
(Unless you count Wembley as an away game)
This was my second ever away game, it was the day i learnt the song "your not singing anymore" what an amazing game.
Days like that when i was a kid, made me realise that Charlton was now the most important thing in my life...........................and that is still true now. ;-)
Ipswich 90-91 I think ?? 4-4 tommy Caton scored from the spot in the last min to level the score. Was hooked from then. It was around Xmas don't think I missed a away game fom then till the end of the season.
Not sure if it was my first away, but one of my earliest was playing Millwall at the old Den whilst still a schoolgirl, and was taken to an evening game by my Mum as my Dad had to work. She didn't do terraces so we sat in the stand, the only red and white scarves amongst all the blue. John Dunn was performing heroics in goal to keep them at bay and was 0 -0 at half time. Early in second half, a miracle happened when Cyril Davies struck to put us in front, so stood and cheered (would not be that brave now) and got told to "sidarrn luv, you ain't gonna win" and sadly they were right as Millwall did equalise and grab a late winner despite Dunn. Still left happy though.
