Brentford chairman Matthew Benham had this to say on Delort
We were close on Delort several weeks ago. I think he’s a very good player. It collapsed on agent fees. We resolved that we wouldn’t revisit the deal if that agent – who wasn’t actually the player’s official agent – was still around. Tours told us that they would make sure this agent was out of the picture.
We enquired on Saturday evening, after Scott was injured, however the fee was now higher, the wages were higher, the agents fee was insane (word on the street was the fee Wigan paid the agent was 500k euros – Ed), and this particular agent was still involved, so it was an easy pass. I will be charitable and say that our ex-manager must’ve been misinformed when he announced that we had bid more money than Wigan
The deal was very messy for many other reasons – he is a talented player but it was best to stay away. Then out of the blue we heard about Betinho, who Mark Warburton had been a fan of for a long time, since Nextgen.
That's fascinating stuff and as said, explains a lot. Good riddance!
Get this. Delorts uncle is an Estate agent. The amount of Gazumping, Exchange day postponements and fixture and fitting wrong doing has never reached such record levels than have been seen in the Greater Manchester area in the past 10 days!!
Good luck Wigan. I can see more than one tear drop etched on Dave Whelans face before this saga is over!
Andy Delort says he is even more determined to prove himself at Wigan after delays in his deadline day switch from Tours.
Delort, who cost a fee reported to be just short of £3million from the French second tier side, was the subject of much speculation throughout the summer as a host of English clubs were said to be keen.
Brentford, Charlton Athletic, Wolves, Leeds and QPR were among the clubs reported to be tracking the highly-rated striker, but he opted to join Uwe Rosler’s Wigan after topping the Ligue 2 scoring charts.
Delort was eager for a move to England but found Tours standing in the way of him before he finally put pen to paper at the DW Stadium.
"It was a very difficult period for me, one that’s probably changed me a little bit as a person," he told the Wigan Evening Post.
"I was being presented with this amazing opportunity that kept being taken away from me.
"I feel I’ve matured more as a person, and realised that when opportunities are presented you have to take them.
"Now I’m here I want to repay the faith. This is the start of an adventure, not the end. I am fiercely ambitious, and I want to progress with Wigan Athletic."
Delort was not signed in time to feature in Wigan’s 4-0 win over Birmingham but he was presented to the home fans ahead of the game and says he was picturing himself in the side.
"That’s something I do anyway – every time I watch a football match I visualise things I can do, movements I can make," he said.
"And watching Saturday’s game I was licking my lips at the thought of playing in this team.
"I thought Callum (McManaman) was exceptional going forward, his touch was amazing and his finishing was fantastic. He also provided the kind of service that I relish.
"I also thought Emmerson (Boyce) was a really dominant figure at the back, a really calming influence, while the two wing-backs were very impressive the way they bombed forward and then got back into position."

All I can say is that if he has genuinely "matured more as a person" as the result of one transfer deal then he must have been pretty immature in the first place.
Then again, just reading this thread through once made me feel 90 years older, so fair play to him ;-)
15 mins in and he looks a crock of shit. Chasing shadows already. If he scores, it will purely be down to luck. So pleased RD didn't pay over the odds for him.

Move on

He is just glad that his ringer won't sting for a while
No wonder we were trying to fit him into a team with pope and church!

Runs after the ball a lot for the team but so does Simon Church
