  • Just seen Finley Marsh was fined £650 for changing his boots after weighing out. Any reason why this merits such a big fine? @Addick Addict you seem relatively knowledgeable, any ideas?
  • He probably wore paper thin boots to make the weight.
  • Danny Brock backers will be pleased today, 33/1 and 16/1 winners in small fields.
And ex backers will be gutted.

I suspect that when he weighed back in he was outside the tolerance level for difference in weight from his allotted weight and it was the lighter or heavier boots that was the reason given by Marsh. Given that every 1lb can make the difference between winning and losing one would assume this is why the Stewards came down so heavily on him.

    He weighed out wearing these:

    and weighed in wearing these:

As AA says - unless he had a very good reason for changing!!

BetBright sold their trading platform to 888 for £15m. Because of that they maintained that they had to close their sportsbook (which they didn't sell) by settling all ante post bets as N/Rs (apart from parts of those bets that were already winners).

Rich Ricci has now come out and said that, as a "goodwill gesture", they will now honour those bets.

Three things have come out of this:

    (1) All bookmakers should be made to prove that they have the funds to honour all bets within any specific book and those funds should be ring fenced - if an individual lays a horse or horses on Betfair they cannot have a liability on any market without having already deposited adequate funds. Bookmakers should be no different and if they don't have sufficient funds then they should be offloading that liability on to a bookie that does.

Edit - they are not honouring all ante post bets - it's only Cheltenham ones and the rest they are voiding.

    (2) The so called Gambling Commission has, as usual, gone into hiding over this issue.

    (3) "Rich" Ricci is "Rich" Ricci for a reason.

888 are honouring Cheltenham ante-post - not Ricci.
That is, indeed, correct - they sold the technological arm of Betbright, Dedsert Limited to 888 and wound up the rest of the company namely Kelfast Limited under which they would have had the liabilities.

Ricci's arguments are laughable especially with regards to non Cheltenham bets:

"I'm sorry for people who thought they were on a winner and the price had  shortened...........At least with this timing it gives people the opportunity to do something else with their money".

So, you've backed Luton for £100 @ 20/1 to win League 1. You now get your stake back and can back them @ 1/3!

Ricci wouldn't have lasted long in the City doing that but then they were/are regulated by the FSA/FCA and they would have done something about it. Unlike the Gambling Commission.
It appears that Luton did figure in one punter's ante post bet that has been voided:

The Guardian has seen details of two bets placed by the same BetBright customer last year. The first was a £100 each-way double on Luton in League One at 14-1 and Lincoln in League Two at 10-1. The second was a £25 each-way Trixie – three doubles and a treble – on Lincoln (4-1), Leeds United in the Championship at 5-1 and Arbroath, in League One in Scotland at 6-1.

Luton, Lincoln and Arbroath currently top their respective divisions by five, two and 14 points respectively, while Leeds are two points behind Norwich at the top and seven clear of WBA in fourth. The book is effectively closed on Arbroath, who are now top-priced at 1-50, while Leeds, Luton and Lincoln are 5-2, 4-11 and 11-10 respectively.

The each-way double has a potential pay-out of £18,075 including the initial £200 stake, while the Trixie would return £8,584 for the same initial stake if all three teams win their divisions.

  • Absolute shambles.
Photo finish, winner declared but they’ve looked at the wrong photo.

bookies at the course paid out twice, punters torn up winning slips. Wow

  • Happened last summer, my selection was declared the winner, I collected and then they decided they'd got it wrong and declared the second the winner.
  • I hope you returned your none winnings to those nice bookie fellas iaitch?

    Midlands National declarations this morning.
Twice runner-up in this, MILANSBAR (20/1 e/w) has Byony Frost back on board (ridden him twice: won Warwick National and 5th in the GN) and is set to carry 10.09 (OR137 - 5lbs lower than when beaten only by Regal Flow [who re-opposes but seems to have lost form since] in last year's renewal).
Forecast to bucket down all Saturday morning at Uttoxeter. He's run creditably this season on ground too good but conditions should be perfect for another bold show and, maybe, 3rd time lucky.

And, given the rain forecasted, I'll add my old buddy RAZ DE MAREE (25/1 e/w) to my Midlands National slip.
Don't be put off by the 00057 this term on unsuitable ground. Nothing was finishing faster in a quality Welsh National (24L 5th) which, believe it or not, was too sharp for him on (GS end of) Soft.
Also off OR137 (lowest mark for 2.5 years - 2lbs lower than when he took the Welsh National in Jan 2018). Another former runner up in this race and a testing 34f is right up his street.
  • Spoke to Ms Parfois's owner last week and he is hopeful of a big run in the Midlands National and then onto the Grand National

7 places on offer from WH (1/5 odds) for the Midlands National. There may not even be 7 finishers from the 20 runners but consider this:
In 26 chases, last year's winner REGAL FLOW (33/1) has an 88% completion record. He's never PU'd and has F/UR 3 times (one of those over the GN fences). BTW 100% completion in 14 hurdles.
    Be rude not to.
Not least because, while he's not been in the same form this season, it's arguable that this will be the first time in a year that conditions and course suit. Was put up 10lbs for his win here but underhoof conditions have also been against in all but 2 races since (Becher Chase, when he took a while to get used to the fences [not the biggest steed] and UR'd when beginning to move through the field, and Welsh GN which may have exposed a preference for a flat track, like Uttoxeter).
Back down to just 2lb higher OR than a year ago, he made the frame down at Taunton on Monday (travelling well before being outpaced on GS). It would be a surprise if he came home in front in this competitive renewal but at a price .......
  • @ paddyp17 do you prefer the jumps or flat ?
  • @ paddyp17 do you prefer the jumps or flat ?
I much prefer the jumps but am a better punter over the Flat! I had one absolutely insane Goodwood meeting a couple of years ago and it's been decent ever since, but I prefer NH racing.

I thought so. Your flat tipping is generally very good. I shall look forward to following you on the flat. Keep up the good work.

  • It only takes one or two winners... If they ever come...
  • Now. I don't want to say Solstice Star was subject to one of the worst rides I've ever seen, but it certainly wasn't any good.
  • I did fleetingly wonder coming in to the straight for the first time if she'd thought they didn't have to go round again but I think it was plain shocking pace judgement.
  • That was absolutely shocking

    GET IN THERE!!!
    Good man!
  • Tidy bit of place money on Get On The Yager there, too. Will happily take that.
  • Love to see the master and his apprentice at work. I wasn't on today but well done! :-)

Nice one again Paddy with The Yager. All went pear-shaped for my fellas (and my theories about that one). Very unlike Milansbar and jockey wisely pulled up Regal Flow before the last.
Great prep for the GN for Ms Parfois @killer kish  - what a dame!
