  • Good news if true but why only 2 years?
  • With Nego being given three years.. PP being given 4.5 years and Vetekele being given five years I wonder if its part of RDs plan to offer long Contracts so he doesnt lose players for nothing like this season and to ensure that if they do leave we get a good fee for them.

Of course being tied down for that long may not appeal to the likes of Morrison and Poyet (i.e. leaving themselves unable to move if we dont want to sell) hence the long drawn out process of their Contracts... Of course Kermorgant wasnt offered a long deal (Was age and injury a factor?) and I'd be surprised if Dervite was too (Seeing he said he wanted to say forever) so is only a small thought of mine

Muttley said 'Great riches await Poyet - we can work that out. Going for the money now might mean he misses out financially later - if say he doesn't get the games in the next couple of years. He is too good a player to follow the money. Another season or half a season with Charlton - a team he is comfortable in and where he know he will start and the team will play to his strengths -a team were he also has enough credit to allow his form to dip. It should be a no brainer really!

if he is sold for 10 million rather than for free - he will be more likely to start. He wouldn't be a punt! His next club should be a Swansea too, not a Chelsea!

I thought this thread was about Michael Morrison however what if young Diego gets a career ending injury god forbid in the short term? The views of fans don't always correspond with those of the player or his immediate family I'm afraid. If he were my son I would say 'go fill your boots now and make hay whilst the sun shines'.....bench warming or not :-0
Edit ; Great news on Moro though if true :-)

Sadly I agree, completely, about Poyet. The world has more than enough people that were will tell you they could have been rich now if they'd only....

On a positive note I also agree with you about Morrison. It's just a little sad that we are, ultimately, jumping for joy because we managed to keep one (just one) or our, out of contract, first eleven from last season.
Weren't Jackson, wiggins and cousins contracts due to be up at the end of this season?
  • Positive news. Going to need a lot more of it though, keep it coming .
  • I think Morrison wanted to see Charltons intentions player wise for the season before he committed to a contract. He doesnt want another season like last season and with the 2 players already signed it shows ambition so I expect him now to sign.

    Just believe, lads & lasses...

You know what happened to Tinkerbell when all the children in the world kept repeating " I believe in fairies "

( No way insinuating that Morro is anything but a hunky young man!)

    :-)
  • admittedly, being overseas, i never see a game live, these days depending upon cafc player matchday audio and later the highlights, and yes, i am very happy that morrison looks like signing on again, but on a number of occasions i saw him being badly caught out by intelligently placed over the top balls into the box, and also, he committed a number of costly errors in the last quarter season didn't he - comments please from those who see him week in, week out...

He is occasionally caught out as he isn't the quickest and his worst games have been filling in at RB which is maybe what you saw. I personally think he's very weak there. But that's why he's playing for us and not a better team. He's been by far our best and most consistent CB for quite a while in my opinion and is certainly good enough for where we are at at this time.

Plus he's experienced and knows the Championship which should help with the players coming it presently.

Don't know for sure but FFP loss limits keep reducing and Gomez will be two years older.

Great news if the deal gets over the line as it means that the defence is similar to one that has coped in the Championship since we came back up.

As DRA commented his speed is his major weakness and that does leave him susceptible if he is caught out, but that is unusual, he has got a lot cannier with time. I don't recall him making any more errors than any other Charlton player last season either, and under the kind of pressure they were all under to stay up a few mistakes are understandable. Just keep him in the middle not as a fullback!

Coped? hmmmm. At times, yes. But then some games were hugely part to Hamer, some games not. But if Pope doesn't recreate Hamer's form or the defence gives less cover I wouldn't feel so confident. But no real comments on it till we see the starting line up and how it copes. Roll on Brentford
  • thanks for the on the ground insight re morrison, we international onlookers appreciate it:>)

We've conceded around 1.3 goals per game in the last couple of seasons. Looking at last season's table, in the bottom half only Bolton conceded less. Peeters has just hinted that they are looking to replace Hamer and Dervite - then again he also said youth will get a chance. Let's wait and see.
Re Hamer, Stephens, Dervite, Kermorgant they've all moved elsewhere for more money. They won't be in a Charlton shirt next season so I prefer to look at who will be on the teamsheet for Brentford. A London away game which I always get to with SR junior - can't wait!

For Brentford or against them playing for us? ;-) . Good stuff r.e. SR junior, should be a goodun if Peeters matches his talk with actions. Our defence as a whole including keeper is only 2 transfers away from what is needed, a keeper and a CB.

I would prefer two CBs only on the basis that if one got injured we would be essentially relying on one of the youth making the step up successfully, quite a lot of pressure on a young lad. A younger (but experienced, mid-20s kind of age) hungry CB to partner Morrison first choice and a Cort/Wood older player happy to step in but not going to throw toys out of pram. Then we can blood a younger defender more gradually. I am still operating under the assumption Wood has in fact gone but I could be wrong there.

If Wood stays, I'd agree. I think you ideally need 4 first team quality centre backs to get through a Championship season. The 4th can be made up of one of or a combination of Lennon and Gomez, but I think we should have a third more experienced centre back to compliment Morro and whoever replaces Dervite. Quite happy for that to be Wood as he seemed solid enough last season, but if he goes he'll need replacing too imho.

  • If Gomez has a good pre-season, I could see him being the starter with Morro - given what the manager has said about using young talent.
  • He's signed. Video on Instagram!
