Of one thing I am 100% certain: we will not be appointing the likes of Dowie, Pardew or Parkinson! I both hope and expect the next head coach to be Riga or someone equal or better. Why go backwards? What I saw of Riga leads me to suggest he could take us to the top ten or even top six over the next 18 months. No pressure Roland
What, you mean as high as 9th???
Why 9th? Is that because you wish to look forwards to next season or look back to 2012-13 and CAFC under Powell?
Let's not be afraid of the future and enjoy the season to come. Personally I'm looking forward to the announcement of the head coach, the retained list and next season's fixtures.
You were also SR last summer praising the good business that had been done, and expected us to finish higher than the 9th of the previous season.
No offence, but no everyone always sees things as positive as you do. And just because they don't, it doesn't make them perrenial doom-mongers or permanent posters of 'negative shit'.
Exactly AFKA. I was simply trying to point out that it is absurd to try and forecast the outcome, or indeed assess past performance, of a manager's season without taking into account the funds he had, or will have, at his disposal with which to strengthen the squad.
Interested in the views of others in the PR communications business, here is a situation where there is no news, but your customer base is waiting expectantly for something. Do you just keep quiet, as the owners are doing, until there is something to say or do you give an update which maybe just saying thsi is the process and we hope to have an answer by x date. Of course if you then don't hit x date there is another pr exercise that needs to be undertaken. I'm probably of the view of the secondary option
Cawley has been the "go to" local journalist for CAFC for sometime and so has good connections to the Club.
Doesn't make what he says correct (and he has been wrong, or at least what he has claimed to be happening hasn't in the past) but does have good sources.
Roly you better have a decent alternative up your sleeve or I may have to enter panic mode earlier than expected. This I usually reserve for August. JR as manager is pretty much the only area us lifers agree on. Sort it out Roly!
If Riga does not come back it will only add to my concerns as he has made it clear that he would be happy to. My great concern is that we will be in the hands of RD's football experts who didn't fill me with confidence last season. Developments in the next week or so will be both interesting and crucial IMO.
Pretty clear, if it wasn't already, that Duchatelet isn't remotely bothered about scoring popularity points, otherwise he'd have gone for the easy win and signed up Riga a couple of weeks ago.
He will therefore also not be remotely concerned that my opinion of him is completely negative.
Andy Hughes has told Charlton: Pull out all the stops to keep Jose Riga.
There is uncertainty over who will be in charge of the South Londoners next season as the head coach only arrived on a short-term deal. And even though Riga did his job - keeping the Addicks in the Championship - he has still not been confirmed as taking the helm in the future. Hughes has warned that Charlton run the risk of losing key players - and also failing to attract them - if they do not move quickly in filling the role.
He said: “Charlton have still not named a manager and they need to get that nailed down - they are going to miss out on players and existing players. For me Jose Riga is the number one choice. The players like him, the staff like him and he likes the club and area - and he has got a feel for Championship football now, he knows what it takes.
The players and staff want him to stay. They need to do what it takes to keep him here. It is vitally important that Roland Duchatelet employs someone this week. They are going to miss recruitment. Other clubs are moving on players. They are missing out. I don't understand the time taken, why is it so long?
They need to appoint Jose Riga as quick as they can. I don't understand why they are even contemplating bringing another coach in. Jose Riga came in when the club was in a tough position and he managed the situation well."
Surely it's not because RD still believes his SL cast offs and second tier european players are good enough for the championship and doesn't want Riga cos he disagrees?
My worry is that Riga is his own man and whilst that was fine when we were desperate, his approach may not be compatible with the network plan. Note his preference for existing players over network players when he managed us. Note also the frustration the network had with Chrissy over not rating/picking the players they had brought in. I have said all along - the first sign of things getting better will be the signing of Riga. I have never thought this would be a certainty though for the potential reasons above. We all know RD has a vision - we have to pray that it isn't boll***s.
I'll trust the word of a player from within the camp and whose mates will be thinking the same. Can we start judging now? We can't "wait until the end of June" as many on here keep suggesting. We need to act now.

Duchatelet is not stupid. He knows Riga and Jose was the person that he turned to when Powell left. He will know Riga is a good candidate and will have no doubt by now that Jose would be prepared to take the job. Riga has stated that. I'm sure things were already being put in place before Riga's arrival to sound out alternatives to Chris and perhaps it is those candidates that RD is talking with before making his decision.
Yes we want a decision soon for the reasons Hughes has stated but more importantly we want the right decision.
Next week would be fine by me. If it's not Riga then it's because RD thinks the alternative is better. I don't believe he has invested in Charlton to see us fail. Let's wait and see what happens. Even if we have never heard of him let's not go into meltdown. How many of us had heard of Jose ?
Why would not having a manager be an issue to signing players. There are many posters on here, far more qualified than Hughes, who have long since put my mind at rest that having a manager is irrelevant to us as they will not be signing the players anyway and Man Utd bid on a player when they did not have a manager and we are comparable to them!

What do you class as failing? Cos I reckon, from what I've seen so far, that Charlton scraping to survival in the Championship with a team of Network players would be deemed as reasonably successful by Duchatelet - he would, after all, not be incurring any significant extra costs as he's already paying these players' wages elsewhere anyway. I think most supporters would class that as a failure - certainly I can't imagine that any Charlton fan would class that as a success.

On the budget we had it was a success we stayed up last season .
