I'm not saying you're wrong, but what signals are there that make you confident we will be happy with our squad?
There doesn't seem to be much urgency in signing up the spine of our side (there's no reason why we couldn't have planned for staying up and make it a priority when confirmed), our recent transfer/loan activity has been disappointing, and indications from RD are that he won't pay a penny over what he - not the market - determines players are worth.
Not really any signals in particular but I'm just positive rd won't want another relegation scrap , I think he's gonna learn from jan , like katrien said
But nobody fully knows if we're gonna be happy come august that's why I don't get all the negativity and some of it is ridiculous from the same posters every time .
You'd better get used to it mate were not even half way through the list of players / coach to be signed up there's Hamer, Poyet and JR to go yet and it is stil only mid May :-0
The way i see it is obvious... RD buys a club in trouble and losing loads of dosh. He believes he has a 'plan' where he can reduce costs , and that is by trimming salary (after all, where else does he cut costs that havnt already been done by the previous owners). So, more players go out who are the higher earners replaced by primarily Liege rejects who aren't or the quality required. After all.. OUTS Kermy Stephens Dervite Alnwick Morro (possibly) Green Hughes Hollands (probably)
INS Reza AA Nejo Thuram
So, reduce costs by cutting the big-earners (and maybe the fact that they were out-of-contract in summer was an attraction to him, as they weren't a liability ) get Liege rejects and Youth players in as the much cheaper option. Only thing is he wasnt aware of the strength of the Championships.
Maybe Riga just got lucky ? When you think about it ,54 points went down last season.
Therefore, personally, its obvious that RD isnt prepared to offer 'reasonable' wages - you can just smell it - and obviously wants to do 'it' on the cheap. A model that might work elsewhere, but wont in Tier 2. At the moment, i can only think that next season is going to another long one !
Same people on every thread moaning lol , He's out of the country on holiday , we didn't offer him a contract before because we didn't know what league we would be in , he's got a offer when he comes back . Stop panicking . Such depressing people. I'm confident we will be happy with our squad by the time the season starts . Any body else confident or is it just the same people waiting with the noose ?
Has he?
'I’d like to think that a contract will be offered before I get back off holiday.'
several clubs already don't appear to be cutting their costs enough for next season to comply with FFP, presumably either betting on promotion to PL and/or no implementation of penalties. If a club does cut costs to comply, and consequently has a weaker squad and ends up in a relegation fight and eventually getting relegated, there's no way that can get compensated.

If the penalty for spending too much is a fine, why would anyone bother? Mr D bothers because it is how he sees he will make money I guess

No contract offer yet.
Pretty sure when I read newshopper Morrison said he was told he'll have an offer when he gets back , not 100% sure though.
Exactly right. In the longer term I can applaud RD's vision and plan to pay less to players and especially agents. However I think this has to be done gradually, learning as he goes. I am told the Club now accepts that it was mistake to let YK go. Well they probably now think they 'got away with it', but I hope the lesson, havong been learnt, was not unlearnt because of Sordell's hat trick, which we waited nearly a whole season for. The point was and is that even at £15k/week, YK is earning considerably less than other strikers in the same division who are not fit to tie his bootlaces. Unquestionably there are strikers across Europe who are better and younger than Yann and currently earning perhaps half of what he now earns but RD has to learn that footballers do not always make a seamless transition from abroad to the peculiarities of the Championship, or indeed to living in London. Polish Pete is an example of that. Has RD learnt that lesson too? I am ready to wait and see, since we have no choice, but if we let Morro slip away, then I will become seriously worried.
What is starting to hit me is that we are becoming an unattractive club to sign for, we are not treating our players with the dignity they deserve. As a club it should be our first call of action to sign up the likes of Morrison as one of our ever-consistent players, to put his future at ease and for the fans too. We are offering these loans to players with apparently nice wages, and most are turning us down... from the outside looking in...
Any facts to back this up ?
Which loans are turning us down ? Or do you mean turned us down when we were bottom of the league and under new management ? Because Even the biggest doom mongers can surely understand the difference ?
Riga does not want Morrison as he is useless at playing the ball out from the back. over heard this in a chip shop in blackheath. We are going down i tell ya, never been so depressed in my life and its only May, Roland has a lot to answer for! Is anyone up to making a supporters group with me to find out what is going on. We could also start by boycotting the pre season friendlies.
SH it does sound ridiculous but if we sign two CBs who can pass and move it will all make sense.
Burnley's xfactor IMO was the ability of Mee and Shackell on the ball. CBs who can step between the lines and play in an onrushing CM. Vokes and Ings grabbed the glory but they attacked from the back. We have the FBs to play this way.
One way to create chances and retain the ball at this level..we started to play backwards football , 6 nothing passes then hoof.
Its grasping at straws but maybe they want a different type of football.
I think we have to bear in mind that Dervite, Hamer and Morrison are all around 25 and established championship players. Their next contract will possibly be the most lucrative of their careers. All three were vital to our fight against relegation and all three might be replaced at Charlton? Let's wait and see - I have every confidence that Duchatelet Meire and the football coaches have had a chance,to fully understand the championship and they should know by now what the best 15-18 players need to look like.to be competitive next season. Stephens and Kermorgant left because they could earn big money elsewhere but I'm not sure these three are in the same league?
I am less confident in the ability of Marie and Prothero. If we are using the execs to do deals, we need a more experienced deal maker IMO. Someone who knows the domestic scene. Because we dont seem to be looking for a manager that does that.
Business concluded early? Norfolk and chance
Of course the perfect man for that role is available. Prudence and value. ..AC
I think KM is in the wrong role. RD knows bugger all about the championship on the evidence so far so he should swallow his ego and get a wise old head. She is green as...KM player acquisitions? Dont rate that at all
I'm assuming that he is happy at the club. So for him to be prised away, it will be down to being offered a significantly better deal elsewhere or a lack of belief about our future prospects. In terms of the latter, a selling job has to be done to persuade them we are the right club for them. I accept there is no need for this to be done for us fans, but I hope these players are being given/sold the details of our future direction to a greater extent than we are!
We are doomed I tell you doomed. Don't panic Mr Mainwaring. Let us wait for a bit longer than the 15th May before panicking. If we are in the same situation at the end of June then I will start panicking.

100% this. Prothero had the brief and the ability to sign all the talent u23 at the club except Poyet. And the four players in question will all have a resale value if they sign. I'm sure player acquisition will improve on what we saw in January but I wonder why the club are not clear on the policy and who is executing the deals? Perhaps we hear more once the Belgian season ends - as per the Riga thread?

I have absolutely zero confidence that Duchatelet and Meire know who the best players for Charlton to be competitive next season are. So again, who is making the decisions on player acquisitions and contract renewals?

It is one of life's great mysteries on who the person/persons responsible are for player recruitment. Would love to have a chat with them.
