Morrison Contract Offer?

“There is talk something will be sorted out - that’s all well and good - but is that just lip service? I’d like to think that a contract will be offered before I get back off holiday. Whether it does or not, we’ll see. If something doesn't get offered me then I’ll have to go down other routes. I knew I was going out of contract and I’ve spoken to different parties, like anybody would."

and

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Charlton. I’ve progressed into a first-team regular at the football club. It was a really sweet feeling to make sure we stayed up. It was nice to play the last game without having to worry. I feel I’ve put a lot of effort into getting Charlton where we are now so it would have been really painful to see them go down.”

  • Hate it when people jump to conclusions but that sounds to me like he's already gone
  • There is only so long i can keep saying "all will come good" - If morro goes i will start to worry!
  • There were only four out of contract players I wanted us to keep. By the day it seems more likely that they'll all be off!

Seems that the players want as much of an indication of squad strengthening as we do. We're going to have to do some early business to show them and other prospective players that it's not going to be as much of a struggle next year.

    Them, not Us. Gulp

What worries me is that there may well be a contract offer, but is it for far less money, meaning he may be better off elsewhere, anyway. Same as would appear to be the case with Dervite
  • The one I find weird is that Wiggins was signed up. Does Wiggo know more about his injury problems than others hence getting a decent deal straight away?

Why has this not been replicated with others? Of course Morro/Hamer/Dervite are their own men and are able to do what is best for them but I get the feeling if they were offered similar terms as Rhoys at the same time they'd all be signed up.
  • Wasn't Wiggins signed up because other clubs were sniffing around him at the time? Could be wrong.

I would not be happy losing Morrison and Dervite. Players and managers are currently on holiday. i am hoping things start to happen next week.

Contract aside, I get the impression he was less than impressed with some of the players Duchatelet brought in. Anyway, I look forward to being told that he's easily replaceable, that Duchatelet's a shrewd businessman and that anyone who thinks otherwise is a pant-wetting panic merchant.

His comments about the January signings were the most interesting part of that interview!
“After not signing many last season it was a long, tough season. You want to know it’s not going to be like that again and see progression as well.

“You want to see some clear direction. When you look at January we brought in players and a lot didn’t play as many games towards the end of the season and at Blackpool only Astrit [Ajdarevic] was available for selection.”
  • I still think he will stay
  • He's got his head screwed on, I think where he ends up will give us a good indication of our owners plans and intentions.

you need to read the full article to to me if does not sound like he is defo out the door , he understands that he had to wait for a offer and they are going to offer him a deal? and he will review it? does not mean he's leaving , the season finished 2 weeks ago .. give the club time
  • The comment about wanting Dervite to stay... (given that if we know he's probably going to Bolton and met Freedman already then Morro must do) and implying he doesn't necessarily trust the owners (the you'd hope it's not "lip service" bit)... that very much reads like someone who knows they're on the way out.

Trying to stay glass half full right now but at the moment it's a glass half full of piss.
  • He deserves a bit better considering the service he has given us, and with him being the vice-captain.

But then again he has nobody fighting his corner right now in terms of a manager. Who exactly do they report into? Katrien?
  • Sounds to me like he wants to stay if we offer him a contract

I reckon Morro wants to stay, if he is given, what he considers to be an acceptable offer.

I think he could get a better offer elsewhere and a signing on fee, but may still prefer to stay, if our offer is close.

However, if he's not given a decent offer very soon, then I'm sure he'll go and I for one wouldn't blame him.

Our only hope is that he hasn't/won't get an offer that he wants, or he'd have already agreed a move like Dervite.

Either way, he can't feel that wanted, if he hasn't been made an offer, when others have.

I presume (may be wrong), that Belgian/European players of equivalent ability are paid less, as they don't have as much TV money.

So I reckon RD's strategy is to pick up equivalent or better players on lower salaries, which may actually be a pay rise for the players.

A DECENT contract. Don't forget that most of these players are on the contracts that they were given at the start of the League 1 title season. They're entitled to expect a wage increase or, at the very least, not to be asked to take a pay cut.

  • This has to be a money issue. They must want to lower the wage bill, otherwise surely they would have offered contracts to Hamer, Morro and Dervite ages ago. Strange seeing as Roland has money, but then again maybe he doesn't want to spend it all.

  • I think this was in the paper a couple of weeks ago following the Blackpool game. There is always a week or two delay in it appearing on line.

With Dervite leaving , I suspect Cort will not be offered a new contract due to his age and injury record.I was amazed to see his cameo against Yeovil because a couple weeks earlier I had seen him being subbed for fitness reasons before half time in the U21 match against Palace .

Both Morrison and Wood also out of contract, could we have a scenario where all four of our senior central defenders need to be replaced ? Could Wood win a reprieve following Dervite's exit?

I know others will not agree with this but I would try to get Tal Ben Haim from Liege as one of our CB's I think he would be a good squad replacement for Cort.

That is a key point. Who at this time is actually deciding who should stay, and how much we are prepared to pay to keep certain players? Not Jose Riga, since he has concluded his stint. He may have advised, but as you say, is not around to fight a corner. Not Katrien, she is far too smart to over reach herself.

It is really important that whoever is making these calls is a full time employee of CAFC, whose future salary depends on the result of his calls.

But there's the rub. They may think they are entitled, but RD will think not, if wages are coming down to comply with FFP.

Wages MUST come down to comply with FFP. Let's be honest most players are paid far more than they should be.

    Perhaps, double, triple.

We nearly all moan that footballers are over paid, but when it comes to the crunch we nearly all want it continue.
  • I'm just as anxious as anyone that Morrison is signed up but given the fact that he is only a couple of weeks away from being unemployed I would have thought he might have remained in the country and delayed his holiday for a week or so to get things sorted out. Moaning that ideally he wants something offered before he gets back is I'm sure true. Perhaps if he were here it would be far simpler. In all honesty I think it's another example of professional footballers inability to live in the real world and prioritise things. Get your life sorted out then nip off to the beach.

If Katrien is reading this I am available as a cheap courier to shift the paperwork to whatever sunbed and umbrella Morro is sitting under.
  • The only individual I want to stay not signed uappointment However, replacing all but wiggins and Jackson ans retain team spirit and cohesion would be a tall order.

He certainly sounds a bit sceptical that he will have an acceptable contract on the table and I wonder if this is based on Yanns experience.

Maybe this uncertainty is about the managerial appointm.

I am not unhappy to bring more network players but only if RD acknoweges thay they got itwrong and that the standard of player is higher
  • I was talking to Morro at the sponsors evening. Really nice guy and he is extremely happy here. If a sensible contract was put to him he would sign it - I have no doubt about that at all.

The way he is talking makes it seem like maybe his agent has been doing a bit of sniffing around and this is a subtle nudge to the club.

Maybe he's off, maybe we've got better lined up - all remains to be seen. Time will tell though. Keep the faith
  • I we wanted him, we would have made an offer by now.
It's the same old story, go and see what offers you get elsewhere and we will think about matching them.
Same as with Yann, then it all backfires on us when players realise that sometimes the grass IS greener on the other side.
  • Read it in the newshopper last night and basically said he's going holiday he's expecting a contract offer to be on the table when he gets back , nothing unusual there , he either signs it or he don't , I'm not panicking yet it's only a week and half since we last played , but if Diego , dervite and Morrison goes then we have one very busy summer because we already need atleast 5-6 signings without them.
  • The only two players I desperately want us to keep is Diego Poyet and this guy. Could easily fit into a top of the table defence. Everyone else out of contract is replaceable, IF we replace with quality.

I agree, footballers are generally paid far too much. That's a completely separate argument though. If the going rate for a decent Championship centreback is £XX then Morrison's entitled to expect to be paid somewhere approaching that.

As for Financial Fair Play, whilst that's a valid point (and I have to confess to not knowing the ins and outs of it), we were already in the bottom 5 in the division on wage outlay before Kermorgant and Stephens left, so that only works as an excuse up to a certain point which we are already way beyond.
