If people were not allowed to think about things and speculate there wouldn't be much point in having a forum. If you read my comments properly you would see that I am not stating them as fact, I am speculating and making a guess. I have accepted it could be wrong and as developments occur, it will either be shown to be completely wrong, or possibly right.
I would encourage you to think about things in your head. It isn't a bad approach.

Fair enough but it's the same people , I.e you on this occasion that only speculates negative stuff , very boring pal.
Yann897 I know you are passionate about Charlton (which is excellent), but you need to chill your boots. There is no need to be rude and reactive. Total belief in Roland is not the litmus test of being a Charlton supporter. Charlton supporters who have seen many dubious owners and managers over the years are allowed to be sceptical.
I am seeing how Roland / Katrien Miere manage contracts, players in and out over the next 2 to 3 months. Apart from Jose Riga's appointment, I have not been impressed so far. The pitch and training ground developments are welcome.
Katrien Miere has stated that the targets were being worked on a few months ago and is reported as saying that the majority of the squad will be in place by the end of June. Getting the head coach sorted out quickly is crucial. I would be happy with Jose Riga, who the players seem to respect and be happy with. I hope that the promising words of Katrien stacks up and and Charlton have a strong and competitive team for the start of the pre season.
I have been watching the Belgium League final play offs. (Standard play FC Bruges today at 1.30pm). In general Belgium football is championship level without the high pace and competiveness. (Watching it you can see how Astrid could manage to coast through Belgium games but couldn't sustain 90 mins in the championship). The championship is a very competitive league, I think Roland underestimated the physical and intensity of the challenge.
I only hope that the Belgium owner shows that are able to up the pace and intensity of how they work in the Championship.

Yeah that's fair enough it's up to people to make their own opinions even if it is the same people being negative but it just seems that people make up things in their heads , Things like rd wasn't sure about Riga , where has that came from ? And Riga not picking RDs players and him not liking it , so sorry I find them comments ridiculous .
Yann897, I am trying to avoid pointing out that everyone makes up everything in their heads, it is called thinking. Helpful if you put that in a different way. I understand that you mean that people are making things up to be negative. Muttley, I find not negative but generally looks at things in a clear headed way. Muttley does try to be constructive, even if it is not all out glowing of Roland. Like I say liking Roland is not the litmus test of being a charlton supporter.
On the point that he made, it is was speculation. Who knows the exact working relationship between Riga and Duchatelet, it must be reasonably constructive as Roland would never have hired him. It is unclear the level of control Roland wants to exert.
The non playng of the new players by CP (not that I want to dig all that up) did appear to be an issue previously. Jose Riga appeared to have more license to play who he wanted without any suggestion of input from Roland. That may have been as Muttley said to Jose being in a strong position or it could be that Jose has worked with Roland before and Roland was more prepared to accept Jose Riga's assessment of the players and how they would manage in the championship.
I am hoping it is that last part, as Roland can let Jose Riga make more of the football decisions and choices for the team, and be able to better resist those that patently don't help (Thuram the 'international goalkeeper', being one of these). Roland would prefer not to micromanage (I hope) and have faith in his coaches / trainers to make the decisions.
Everyone will be drawing their own conclusions at this stage simply because there are no announcements and no activity right now. We have no idea whether Riga was brought in as an interim, to run the academy or whether he will run the first team next season. Since CAFC is in a state of transition with a new owner and many, many players out of contract or on loan, it is understandable that we want definitive answers ASAP. Since KM stated we should know the squad by the end of June we all want to see some activity... Especially as whatever happens will set the tone for the next three years or so.
Activity should not mean moment to moment updates on ongoing negotiations, contract discussions and deals in lieu of anything postively happening; like the Jan transfer window and emergency window. I don't want to see the club repeat that shambolic communication and strategy. News of completed deals, is what I would much prefer to see.
I agree that announcing ambition to sign players and then failing is the worst of all scenarios but I think an end of season statement is due sometime soon. One of the reasons that speculation and rumours reach such extremes has been a lack of regular measured communication. Duchatelet started off well with a once per month message and perhaps this comes back once the head coach position is settled?
God only knows what's planned or happening on the manager front; but in regard to players, maybe we are waiting on decisions from the likes of Poyet, Hamer etc before we can move on or prioritise our targets?
I don't think I have made anything up - I have looked at the evidence and suggested a theory. Whilst accepting that it can easily be and wanting the theory to be wrong. I am looking forward to the evidence of the coming months proving it wrong as it can surely do. But I also note a lack of real evidence that the squad building is up to scratch since RD took control. He needs to work to get my confidence, whilst others may be happy to give it without any evidence. That is their right as it is mine to seek it. From my perspective there needs to be improvement in this respect, and that improvement needs to be evident this summer. When the positive signs start to come through, the theories get more positive.

But don't really get why the theories have to be there , can't you just be happy that we stayed up , we're offering players contract and trying to get things done behind the scenes , where gonna have a new pitch a new training ground , Belgian beer in the ground and other improvements around the stadium , but oh well let's just dig out rd at every oppertunity after all we are Charlton fans let's be miserable !
I am happy we stayed up. Very happy. I was not happy that Yann was sold during the season and that we failed to bring players of the required standard in to make staying up a bit more of a certainty. I accept that Riga did a great job and would love him to be manager. I have also stated on other posts that if we can keep our key out of contract players and bring one or two in that improve us, we could be serious challengers next year. I have also consistently over the final part of the season, been positive about our chances of staying up.
I am also not asking for the positive signs to happen yesterday or even tomorrow. I am merely stating a worry that given the lack of anything convincing transfer wise since RD took over, I am waiting for the signs that what we need will happen with a bit more anxiety than I might be doing otherwise! When Poyet, Morro and Dervitte sign, you will see me getting carried away with the best of them and if we make a couple of decent additions on top, I will be predicting promotion. RD hasn't won me over yet. Riga won me over and I was dubious at the beginning of his stint. I think that is fair enough. As Othello said - Give me the ocular proof! Riga did, RD hasn't yet.
All discovery is based on having theories. And a forum should be full of them . Not for everybody to agree -but to promote discussion.
There's a long way to go this summer, lets not start judging how good RD is working before it's even started. We have a good 7/8 weeks before the contracts run out, plenty of time to sign everyone back up.
We shouldn't forget that it was RD who appointed Riga, probably the shrewdest signing of all. On reflection I cannot think of a manager I would rather have had. I had complete confidence in him after his first press conference when he allowed Dyer to interject and give his point of view. Some people have an aura that inspires confidence, Riga did that for me and it seems the players as well.
A colleague of mine spoke to him whilst serving him. He said Jose wanted the job, but did not know what was going to happen. I hope he's involved with us in some manner.
A colleague of mine spoke to him whilst serving him--don't like the sound of that

"In your head" is generally accepted as the best place to do one's thinking. Trying it elsewhere tends to cause foot in mouth or talking out of arse.
I have decided to take a vow of non thinking until Saturday 9th August.
Good idea. I realise this is a forum but I've always found wild speculation futile and a waste of positive energy. We're all different so I try to respect the choice of others to do so. If you want a bit of wild speculation, try and get your heads around this:
RD has prepared several business plans ranging from being able to finance a decent spell in the Premiership to potential revenue loss due to relegation to League 1. He decides that looking upwards gives him a much more warming feeling and, as such, gets funding in place for the assault on promotion.

This is definitely my favourite comment since the season ended. Made me spit my tea out.

That's positive speculation, I hope.
These things take time.
