That's a pretty good record for CAFC in relation to where they were when he took over.
Maybe needs to learn how to grab points in key games but, as these forums show, he's becoming popular which, considering who he's following and the love the fans will always have for Sir Chris, is impressive, to say the least.
I agree with many others on this site, give him a try - and some money!

  • I believe he has a meeting with RD this week .
  • There is a strong youth base which can only be good news for the future and Riga has identified that.
What may hold the club back is the revenue it generates as a business in relation to the quality of players it can afford to buy.
The good news is that there are a lot of decent players in our country who are not getting football, waiting in the wings for a break - find the hungry ones and we are there.
  • He has shown such intelligence in dealing with the situation that we were in. He has reinvigorated some players, rested others when they needed resting. I would even say that he has rightly chosen to throw the towel in in order to conserve energy in a couple of games. Belgium is certainly a lot closer than Qatar. He could probably manage a trip home every couple of weeks if he wanted to, I hope we sign him up quickly whilst he is still buzzing.
  • He's obviously done a fantastic job with the hand that he was dealt. What worries me is that he won't be familiar with available players when it comes to rebuilding a squad, one of CPs tremendous strengths.

Don't see why he wouldn't be, he clearly knows a thing or two, he's not exactly a novice and dear Old Uncle Roly will have his own scouts out looking, not to mention if Dyer is still around he will have an idea of CP's kind of suggestions (e.g. Obika and Tudgay were clearly Powell type signings.)

Doesn't mean we'll be signing big names everyone knows but that's not necessarily a bad thing. All anyone knew about Yann Kermorgant when he signed was he missed an important penalty, badly... and that worked out okay.

We are being managed by a town in Nigeria?! That is impressive.

I understand why they want to introduce chip and pin at the concession stalls now!

lol - just 'got' that one. !
  • I'd like to keep Riga. If he was not given the managers job, who would we want/be in the frame? Giggs, Hasselbaink, Curbs, Allardyce???

Just a reminder of the table when he took over. Interesting to note that our goal difference got worse despite accumulating 24 points from 16 games.

Fantastic effort to end up above every one of the six teams above us.
  • We don't need no steenkin goal difference... :)

Riga is the capital of Latvia. Unless there is a town in Nigeria by the same name, I think you are thinking or Lagos

The link you posted takes you to Jos, which is a "city in the Middle Belt of Nigeria".

As for your post regarding Riga the manager, I completely agree. A very impressive return and I really hope he is given a new contract.

  • The biggest thing for me that despite the situation, Riga didn't panic. He stayed calm even after bad defeats and I think ultimately that calmness got through to the players.

I think that's a great point. In any one game, or sometimes over a sequence of games, there can be a significant random element in results. You lose when you could just have easily have won and vice versa. This, combined with the huge emotion involved, must make it very difficult for the Manager (or Head Coach) to assess, rationally, what's working and what isn't, making adjustments where appropriate, but otherwise telling the players to keep at it.

Riga appears to know what he's doing and once that became clear to the players it must have been very powerful. I was really struck by a comment he made post the win at Sheffield Wed. "Players are looking for solutions" he said. I really hope he stays.

What's also significant is that Riga did this without significant help from the loan market. Obika did contribute, but could hardly be described as having been critical, whilst Petrucci was entirely marginal. Fantastic is the right word.
  • He has shown respect for everyone concerned with the Club and in return he won the support of the whole squad. Roland, please ensure he stays to complete the task of taking us onwards and upwards.
  • The form Riga showed with 1.5 points per game would put us eighth in that table. Given that Wigan(7th) and Brighton(8th) made the playoffs it certainly makes sense to get Riga on board and strengthen the squad.

And he achieved that with a severe fixture backlog and without two of our best players, three if you include the final games without Wiggins. I always thought that although our squad was deficient in a couple of area's, we were far too good to be right down at the bottom. We were good enough for mid table at least and Riga proved that.
  • Any manager that has kept us in this division with the strike force we've had this season must be all right.
  • Would be a crime not to get him signed up

Imagine what he can do with a pre season and regular training
  • i'm convinced now, sign him up
