Let's hope we get to hold on to our decent players. Harriot looks like he's really found his mojo. Solly, Wiggins, Dervite, Cort, Fox, Poyet, Cousins, Harriot - some quality young players to build around if we can keep them.
You left out Church
I've always been an advocate of getting the best out of people and players. When I was coaching & managing in local football in Suffolk I couldn't get to The Valley on a Saturday so used to watch Ipswich Town a bit. They were bringing in some half decent strikers but still couldn't get the goals they wanted. Remember that we had Kermo for a large part of this season but still weren't scoring. The bottom line is that for the striker to score goals he needs creativity behind him. That was Ipswich's problem as it has been Charlton's. Not sure Church ever would score a lot of goals but he likely would have scored more if he'd had better service and more chances. Andy Cole scored a huge number of goals in the Premiership but missed a helluva lot more. He was getting plenty of service & chances and that's why he still got so many goals. The other thing is that in the Championship there is nothing like as much movement in the play, defenders are able to stay with & get tight to their man easier so goals can be more difficult to get if you are not creating or playing 4-5-1 without quick wingers to take it to a 4-3-3 when in possession. Championship central defenders love hoof ball teams with a so-called target man - it's bread & butter to them. Anyway, you can see from my list of players that strikers need to be brought in. Would love to see Church bang in a lot of goals sometime but I've often chased lost causes!
Somehow he has just kept going, playing in every game - doing his best to drive the team on. Proper captain.
there was an article in the watford programme where Jackson said he called the players in for a chat after SCP left and he told them it was up to them (the players) to get us out of trouble
If someone said to me at the start of the season, that we'd finish seven points above the relegation zone and get to the Quarter-Finals of the FA Cup, I would have definitely taken that.
Shame it has been such a bumpy ride though!
Especially as a few days before our first league game, we had just one senior striker in Kermorgant.
Just a shame that our season has been so stressful, because it has actually been a success when you consider our financial difficulties at the start of the season, as well as our pitch problems.
Regardless of who you prefer or what has happened, credit must go to both Powell and Riga as well as the players and backroom staff for their incredible efforts this season.
Let's hope that with added stability preferably with Riga in charge, we can enjoy a successful 2014-15 campaign.
Great result and well done Callum mental , 5 goals in 2 games , if he gets that next season i'll be pleased !
Feel more optimistic after a brief convo with Katrien on Wednesday , i said i saw her dancing at the end of Watford win , she said she's got a special dance for when we get to the Prem , i said you might be too old to dance by the time we get to the PREM , she said wait and see , with a glint in her eye !!
next season
1% Automatic promotion 4% Play-off Bants 40% 7th-12th 52% 13th-21st 3% The Big "R"
We'll done Jose and the lads again and especially those fans who have travelled up and back today and not got lashed, proper mental
Get rid of the fringe players, sign up Morrison, Dervite and all the youngsters, sign a keeper, full back cover, two wide players and 3 strikers and we might have a sniff of top half next season

That was excellent, well done Callum, when he just plays the simple game he shows what he can do.
So as a very difficult season closes We in a far stronger financial position than for many a year, an emerging young side from our youth ranks, have clear investement in off field development with the Sparrows Lane Plan, have a clear leader on the field in JJ, a potential popular leader off the field in Riga who had huge shoes to fill, the best pitch for ages next season for club legend pPaddy and team to look after, am approachable, enthusiastic boardroom leader in Katrien that clearly loves the club, a ticket pricing policy that is the envy of many clubs fans up and down the country, quality Belgium Beer coming to the concourse and a museum charting our 110 years history, maybe just maybe we do still have our Charlton. Lets hope so, I am quite optimistic and feel a lot happier than I did on the drive out of Sheffield with @Bedsaddick & @kinveachyaddick a few weeks ago.
“I asked my players to end the season with a good feeling and they were able to do it,” said Riga.
“The first half was more complicated. That’s why I gave them some ideas.
“In the second-half the organisation was better, the way they mastered the game was good and the goals were too.
“I knew that they were able to do it and I prefer to have no regrets at the end of the game. We knew we were safe before the game but there are no such things as friendly games professionally.”
“He has speed, he has pace and it’s more a question of trying to manage his emotions.
“Sometimes he was struggling with the simple things but of course he has a good feeling at the moment, for sure, so I hope he can stay in the same mindset.”
Riga appears to be a real star. I hope we can get him signed up ASAP. He seems to have a talent for getting inside the heads of young players & helping them get over their problems. Imagine what he could achieve with a full pre-season.
Really chuffed for Callum. He's a lovely lad. It would've been easier for him fade into the background after his performance against Barnsley but he stuck at it and has got his reward.
Buggar. I hate it when I do stuff like this. Got up in California ready to listen to the game. Went into CAFC Player. Noticed there were extended highlights of Charlton v Watford so I thought I'd have enough time so watched that first. That was a treat listening to Pete and Terry and watching the highlights. So, all geared up for today's game. Clicked on the match schedule link and I saw all the Championship results. Still didn't think anything of it as I thought it was a leftover from last week but glanced down it anyway. Blackpool 0 Charlton 3. Realization. Bollocks, they kicked off early. How did I miss that! I really do hate it when I do stuff like that. :-)
So, followed the match thread instead from start to finish. Loved that. Really helped me get the atmosphere of the game. Thanks RM, Seth and others for that. And Callum. 3 goals. UNBELIEVABLE.
I have a funny feeling from the way he is talking that he knows he's not going to be manager next season .
The thing is where does RD see the best return from JR? Bringing on the youngsters to increase their worth especially if sold on for mega bucks and or making them an integral part of the 1st team or moulding the 1st team with some astute signings, into promotion contenders? 64,000 dollar question but if JR does move to the academy he will always be available to lend a hand and RD covers his options.
that was my first game since the Cup at Sheffield and I was pleasantly surprised.
We started in 2nd gear and continued much that way through the 1st half, if Blackpool had know where the goal was they would have scored. There was far too much back passing going on and negative free kicks but in the end the forward passing payed off with 3 well taken goals by Callum, so glad he didn't take his shirt off again after the 3rd. When Obika came on and Callum moved to the right the passing and forward play between Callum and Wilson gave us penetration on both wings for the first time. Fuller got an ovation from the whole ground when he came on but didn't achieve much, but that final 20 minutes we played really good passing football. At the end all the players threw their shirts into the crowd and Jose Riga came over with the players to salute us lot, best away experience of the season.
Well, I didn't see a 0-3 coming before the game and at half time I suspect the odds on that result would have been very juicy. But what a way to end what was been a turbulent and traumatic season! Well done the lads, heroes all.
I suspect that Riga's comments are ambiguous simply because there is a negotiation going to take place. I would be surprised if he wasn't offered a contract extension but he might want some assurances about transfer policy, budgets and autonomy as part of any deal.
Now looking forward to what I think will be an exciting and progressive close season, and to a much better season next time round.
