  • Second person who has told me Riga will be youth coach next season MrBligh. And that his No2 will be our Manager.

    Is that to replace Hart?

  • The objective if the game is to put the ball in the opposing net. We don't do it.
  • ....simples.
  • Sounds very similar to Tuesday.

Regardless of how well you play, this part of the season is all about results. 1 point from two crucial home games against hardly impressive opposition is hugely disappointing.

The goal situation has gone well beyond a joke now.

    Worried. Very worried

We played much nicer football than Tuesday we just can't finish. I still see this as 1 point gained.
  • Heard Hart to Man City
  • IMO we were going to lose prior to the match as such I'm pleased with a point after it.

It WAS a penalty but church could have kept going and got a shot away.

Thought Church and Reza both worked hard.

Cousins, green, obika and Ajderavic all played average at best.

We played some decent football and some crap stuff.
  • So another nobody as 'Head Coach' next season then. Don't ever expect to see a good manager until Duchatelet sells up.
  • Just wondering whether it's too late to ask Bolton to insert a clause in Sordell's loan agreement agreement that he is also not allowed to play in games against Sheff Wed, Blackburn, Watford and Blackpool?

As everyone else says, our attack was once again pitiful but not as pitiful as when Sordell is in it.
  • Posting without other influences.

Today is the 5th anniversary of my father's death and Blackpool relegating us (for the second time). When visiting his grave this morning on the way to the match I did ponder on that fact as one of the last things he said to me was that he thought Charlton would struggle to get out of it.

Credit to the lads for the endeavour after the disappointment of the Barnsley result but, sadly, the same inability to score was all too evident. This time, happily, with a mixture of brave defending and good fortune we didn't concede so came away with a point.

The back five were by and large pretty good and young Morgan Fox aquitted himself well in place of Wiggins. The midfield tried but young Cousins looked out of touch, possibly through fatigue, although he stuck at it as did Johnnie Jackson bless him. His commitment is writ large but the legs just aren't willing at the moment. Astrit strolled around at times as he does but is the one player to offer anything resembling penetration.

Our desperation was best exemplified by the cries for a penalty when Church fell over stretching to play the ball away from the goalkeeper. Mind you given his pathetic all along the ground "shot" straight at the 'keeper from the edge of the six yard box shortly afterwards I can understand the grasping at straws!

Blackpool and Doncaster both lost I see so that hard fought point could prove to be important. It's shaping up for a May showdown at Bloomfield Road. Let's hope Blackpool don't relegate us (for the third time) which is where I came in.
  • Heard Hart to Man City

Heard they were keen on him a while back.

So who has been masquerading in goal for the past few seasons ?????

  • Second person who has told me Riga will be youth coach next season MrBligh. And that his No2 will be our Manager.

I think he'll be brilliant and push our academy right on,

I just don't really understand why he's got the first team job

Watching from the Lower North I was dubious, but having seen the video above - that was a blatant penalty. Churchy chasing down the two defenders and then sprinting at the keeper was the highlight of our attacking endeavour.

Same old problems: we waited for more than an hour for our first accurate attempt on goal. Our defensive clearances, by head or by boot, land 15 yards outside the box - straight to an unchallenged opponent. Our midfield lacks the strength or ambition to seize possession and move forward. Our crosses are wayward, and our shots - the few that they are - are shanked or skied.

With his power and physique, Ajdarevic looks the part - but is curiously anonymous. With his pre-eminent ball-skills, shouldn't Poyet be playing aggressively forward, releasing the strikers? Yet again, Cousins lacks the close control and quickness of passing to succeed on the wing: he is simply out of position. For the last half-hour we were playing for a draw, enforced by baffling defensive substitutions: shades of Powell.

This was joyless stuff, at home against an unambitious side who may have cracked against any semblance of pressure we were unable to mount. I still think we'll avoid the drop, despite the mess of our ragged and hapless efforts. Thank heavens Blackpool are intent on suicide.

  • how many chances did we create today?

    zero is the answer

Because he's Roland's mate and that's all we'll ever have as our manager from now on.

A decent, "stop the rot" performance but should have got more bodies forward against an extremely negative Bolton. AA had moments of real class in the first half and young Fox didn't look at all out of place. As mentioned by others, we lost our momentum with the subs. Church played ok...thought it was a pen but maybe he slipped. Looked solid at the back again. Once again, Cousins showed why he shouldn't be played on the right of midfield. I hope we can scrape enough points to stay up because we really can't score :-(

Cousins was right hand side of a diamond. He should be able to cope with that.
Cousins is nearly running on empty ...

Agreed. He should've been subbed and maybe Petrucci given a go. But being played on the right of a diamond wasn't the reason he looked out of sorts.
  • From my angle it was clearly a penalty - Lino was in a good position but the last man rule puts pressure on officials as If he gives a pen, he has to send the keeper off. The ball had beaten the keeper and he made sure he contacted Church - it was subtle and subtle seems to be too much for crap refs but you don't need much to bring a man down when they are running.

Petrucci too lightweight for me. Cousins didn't have his best game but didn't hide and was at the heart of everything playing outside of his preferred position (Harriot take note). Church was terrific I thought.
  • A draw is certainly better than nothing, but after the Barnsley defeat I felt we really needed a win today and it now looks very likely to go down to the last game at Blackpool. At least Burnley & Derby did us a favour tonight and the odds are probably still slightly in our favour but it is getting very tight. Can't see Yeovil surviving from here but it is any 2 from the 6 above them to go as well. I'm sure 48 points will keep us up, maybe 47 or even 46 but we really need 2 wins to make sure. Same old story today, some decent football leading up to the box but no cutting edge. I thought Riga's decision to bring on Hughes for Church late on was odd and not exactly an attacking move considering we needed a win. Impressed by Fox who I thought did very well in difficult circumstances. Hopefully the massives scored all their easter goals at Bournemouth today and we can get a result up there, but not over confident.

Riga made a decent call IMO - he undertsood that a point took us above Blackpool - now Blackpool are not going to get any more points until they play us on the final day so it was important to do this. A defeat would have been a disaster.

Amazed some fans thought Church had dived - so clearly a penalty I wanted to run on the pitch and punch the ref. Anybody who has played football should surely know what happened there! Still totally pi**ed off with the ****. Teams can go down because these clowns can't do their jobs properly!

A draw is so much better than a defeat. A clean sheet is an added bonus too. It was also probably the 'right' result from a neutral point of view, but I so much wanted us to win.
Could we have won? Well we worked the keeper a little more than in recent games, we also had a clear tactic of long cross field passing which actually served us pretty well in the circumstances of the game, some of our crosses were testing for the keeper I suppose.
Simon Church robbed a dozy keeper and then went down to all round appeals for a penalty. I don't believe it was a pen, but a decision by Church to avoid getting up and then missing. I actually think that if Simon HAD got up, he might have scored, or more likely might have won an actual clear penalty.
Set against that was Diego clearing what looked a certain goal off the line. Diego was the best player on the pitch from either side by miles, it is stupid to think he has only just turned 19, if ever there was a player I would like to sign up it would be him...bollocks to any wage structure Roland, give him what he asks for for a two year contract.
Get used to Morgan Fox, because he is here for the rest of the season, and he had a terrific home debut. And Jordan Cousins, knackered by the end, was also very good. Church was better than usual, and so was Reza. The back 5 generally played well.
    One juicy point...every little helps.

PWR! - Brilliant, even has it's own abbreviation now! Don't know why I let it wind me up so much but does anyone actually care that people 'PWR'!? What actually is the point of telling everyone that you PWR? Badge of honour maybe? Who knows? Who cares?

but what does the "w" stand for?

    with or without?
  • A much better performance from our team, I felt. I said to my son at half time one goal would have won it, and if we'd been awarded the penalty we'd have got that one goal and we'd all be delirious.

Very impressed by Fox. Church had his best game for us (that I've seen, anyway).

Fucking guy behind me thinks he's hilarious with his "funny" nicknames: "Sam" for Fox, "Ainsley" for Harriot, "Michael" for Jackson, "Charlotte" for Church. Give it a bloody rest! After the 16th time it's not funny ffs.
  • I stand corrected on the penalty having seen the clip. It was a pen.
  • We played ok 1st half and some of Adjarevic's passing was superb. The Bolton diamond formation gave us so much space out wide but sadly Fox was too inexperienced/nervous to FULLY exploit that (don't get me wrong...the kid did well and there was one brilliant cross from him).

Church and Reza both shaped up ok but lacked that extra quality to fashion a real chance. Poyet was very good but Cousins was off it and I'm surprised he didn't get subbed instead of Reza.

Fox did very well and looked technically sound. He was fortunate that he didn't have anyone to mark and had so much space in front of him....so it was a good game for him to play in....but a good start nonetheless.

I think we're just plain knackered. Cousins was completely out of it 2nd half and, uncharacteristically, Wilson didn't want to burst forward to support attacks late on. It said it all to me when in the last minute, he turned and played the ball back rather than take his man on.

On the whole, a better looking performance than Tuesday but another very poor afternoon's entertainment I'm afraid.
  • I might be being a tad harsh on the ref - it was the lino who should have seen it.

  • Same old story. Nice football until we get into the final 3rd never looked like scoring. Always worry were a goals coming from. AA is the only who can create anything but is shagged after 40mins.
Thought church slipped over, was wrong about that. Tubby was having a poor game and lost it after that.
How shit was the bench today. Didn't want to see any of them come on to try and help us get a goal.
    Another point gained for us.

Piggot and Reza up top on Monday ? I hope.

Would be interested to know where those who thought Church slipped were sitting - From NE quadrant it was as clear as day - that's why I think the lino should have seen it.Might have been less obvious from other angles.
