Young central midfielder Davide Petrucci has joined Championship side Charlton Athletic on loan, Manchester United have announced. Having spent some time with Belgian side Royal Antwerp earlier in the season, the Italian will head to South London for the rest of the season.
Charlton have had something of a turbulent season on and off the field. Results have been generally poor and they've been in the relegation struggle for much of the season. Currently, they sit three points above the relegation zone, albeit having played two or three games fewer than most of the teams around them. Off the field, they were bought in January by Roland Duchâtelet, a Belgian businessman, who recently sacked manager Chris Powell and installed José Riga. The squad has undergone something of a revamp as well.
Hopefully, Petrucci will get a decent amount of first-team football as they look to secure their second-tier status. Petrucci, who was signed amid some controversy from Roma in 2008, was sent to Peterborough last season but had his time therre cut short by injury. Indeed, injuries have been a theme of his career at United so far, though on his return from Belgium he was named captain of Warren Joyce's U21-side.
Still, with United's season petering out to a limp conclusion, one option open to David Moyes was to take a look at a few of the youngsters. Petrucci, now 22, is consistently rated highly by watchers of the United youth, but will now have to wait until next season at the earliest for a crack at the first team. In other loan news, Jack Barmby has extended his loan at Hartlepool until the end of the season, and Tom Thorpe has returned to Birmingham City.
Not read all the thread. Maybe Riga knew of him from his time in Italy and sought him out? At least he will have no language problems with his new boss so hopefully will settle in quickly. Good luck in your loan spell with CAFC. Hope we all benefit from it.

Would also know him from Belgium when Petrucci was playing at Royal Antwerp. Jose must know he can do a job for us.

Davide Petrucci is hoping that brain will overcome brawn during his loan spell with Charlton.
The Manchester United midfielder signed a season-long loan deal at The Valley on Thursday morning and is available for selection at Derby County on Saturday.
Petrucci was previously one of the highest-rated players in Italian side Roma’s academy and is a former captain of United’s U21 side.
The 22-year-old admits he at his best with the ball at his feet and says, while aware of the Championship’s physicality, he is looking forward to the task in front of him.
“I think it is a good challenge for me,” said Petrucci.
“I am more technical than physical. I like to play with the ball. I am happy to be here because when I spoke with [José Riga] he told me that he likes to keep the ball all the time. To try to win games by mastering the ball and have a good style of play.”
He added: “I know it is a very physical league, but sometimes if you can keep the ball and play it then physicality is not so important.
“If you keep the ball and pass it and move then you become harder to play against, in my opinion.”
Petrucci enjoyed a loan spell with Peterborough United in the Championship last season where he played four games, and scored against Leicester City, before injury struck.
With one training session under his belt the Rome-born playmaker believes there is a lot of quality among his new teammates, but he hopes to be able to make an impression sooner rather than later.
“It was a good experience for me, although a short one. I think this one will be even better,” Petrucci, of his time with The Posh.
“Everyone has been very good since I arrived. I’ve not been here for long, but everyone has been very friendly.
“I want to play if possible, but it is a good team. I already know that. I am here and will try to be ready whenever possible.
“I have looked and see that there are very important games coming up, but all of them will be important for us.”

Not too many appearances on record. Feeling underwhelmed but will of course give the lad a chance.
OK so scanned the thread, he is central playing left footed player ? Perfect just what we need, another central midfielder.
Pet - roo - chee
Good luck Davide, help keep us up!!

Same Psychology of Mr Wenger
Surely he's not pleased to be here?
