The Future Of Chris Powell

  • Boro's first goal was different class and their second was a penalty. No disrespect but Huddersfield are a poor side and Powell will have a tough job there.

Quite right but some udders fans are already complaining about players being played out of position.

Maybe we have finally found a set of fans that are just as impatient as our own especially as it was his first game and only been at the club a week

I never thought he was just a very naughty boy though.

    @LeedsbasedTownfan‌

You won't I doubt ever see pretty football under Chris but what you will get is committed players willing to fight for the cause and results that will surprise you both good and bad.

He's still relatively inexperienced and showed at The Valley he learns quickly. Like most managers he has his blind spots that fans find frustrating. Playing players out of position and substituting far to late to make a difference.

If I had one criticism of CP it was that he was too defensively minded and most of his teams were set up to frustrate the opposition rather than set about them. In football terms I would say he's too negative.

I will of course follow you and your results with great interest and really hope he turns it round for you. Hudds are a good football club and you have a very impressive man at the helm. Sometimes that's not enough.

Powell was cut an enormous amount of slack at The a Valley because of who he was and what he meant to us as a player. I'm not sure there would have been that level of tolerance if he was just a manager.
  • Based on the shambles I witnessed yesterday, my version is 'the future of Chris Powell is managing a Team in the bottom leagues of English League Football', with Huddersfield Town unfortunately.

After making much needed progress under our Caretaker Manager Lillis, yesterday was a step-change back to Robins days. Disjointed, outclassed, outplayed, we looked league 1 not Championship. Way off the performance level required to cut it in this division.

Yes of course it is only his first match but c'mon, you expect (and it happens a lot) that the new Manager effect is positive and the Team Plays a great first game (then it can go downhill!!).

He has been banging on in the local Media about how his Players will play for him, keeping clean sheets, winning, entertaining the fans etc etc. Well Chris, you managed not one of them commitments to the fans yesterday, not one. As one of Mates summed it up on arriving at the Pub after the match (I had long gone); "that was boring".

Time will tell, the jury though (as were many of the fans early yesterday) are well and truly out.

Mate, he must know less about the players than you do at this stage. I have no idea whether or not he'll be successful for you but being critical after one game seems a bit crazy.
As we all do, we speak as we find and my observations are based on what I had to endure yesterday.

On Paper, we have some excellent Players and had started to see some really encouraging signs when the Caretakers were in charge (They should have been given the gig and we would have edged up the table nicely, don't think Lillis wanted it though).

Yesterday pissed all over that encouragement and was no better than the drivel Robins was serving up. I have every right to feel aggrieved that our performance yesterday was our second worst of the season after the debacle that was Bournemouth at home. New Manager and we should have been flying out of the traps.

Time will tell and of course he needs / deserves time. Lumping long hopeless balls up to the flanks and Playing a centre-back in Midfield is not a good way to start and Boro were not on their game but didn't need to be. We won't Play many poorer Teams on the day than they were.

Well, if we wanted an impact with Powell, we definitely got one, a negative one and a performance right out of the bottom drawer.

Onwards and upwards from here I guess!

  • Sadly it wont be though town, take no notice of those who say"the players will fight for the cause etc" as you need a bit more than that in the championship.
Powell is a good man but football tactician he is not, 3/4 of our fan base do not agree with me buts thats ok as its all about opinions, I like Powell as a person but will be very surprised if he guides Town to safety this season. I have no beef with Huddersfield or Powell as your a club similar to our own but be Warned, the shit you witnessed yesterday wil not get much better.

  • so of the above is true tho---CP isnt an experienced manager-----but he does learn fast. The issue is how fast (how much time will he be given)
  • I know he scored, but Jon Stead ffs!

Going to be a long old season for Powelly up there.
  • Boro's first goal was different class and their second was a penalty. No disrespect but Huddersfield are a poor side and Powell will have a tough job there.

No disrespect but we outclassed you with 10 Men at home (any of your fans that were at that match would concur with this) and only the intervention of an official not fit for purpose saved you. And you have had a great start to your season and have a good side this time round. So we can't be that bad!.

We are a good side, just need the right Man to Manage us and get the best out of the talent we have at our Club.
  • League 1 club really though Huddersfield, when you consider the teams they are competing with in the catchment area

It catches up with in the end and you'll find your place in the football ladder

  • Think your next fixture v Wigan will tell you a lot. They have good players and will get plenty of the ball but thus far have been lacking up front and prone to defensive errors. Decent time to be playing them I think and a game I think you should expect to get something out of.

My guess is Powell will set up to avoid defeat and try to nick the goal. Decent enough tactic in your position.

@LeedsbasedTownfan‌ who do you see as the three teams in the relegation positions come the end and why are Hudds better ?
  • Huddersfield have a pretty good front 2 when they are fit. They should stay up because of those two but then I don't think CP is attacking enough to get the best out of them. Will be touch and go for Hudders.
  • I think as long as for every post on here for a loss, there's one for a good point or a win then it's fair enough

Lee clarke will be available again soon and Powelly can go.to brum
  • Some people really, really need to move on

Just replying to Town Henry we all know you aint though you melt.
    Melt? Are you twelve?

Seems you don't do irony. Otherwise you would have got the joke that you, who was shouting down people discussing Powell less than 24 hours after he left with constant "Move on"s, are now the one who wants to keep discussing Chris.

I moved on a long time ago but it seems you can't and don't want to let it go.
    </blockquot
I was actually jesting with you Henners! I was actually answering towns concerns as a fellow football fan not as a hoofball fan:-)
There was nothing to move on for me, always thought powell a shit manager and nothing has changed my mind, I love big Bob though.

Shit enough to get us promoted from League 1 with a record points tally and finish top half in the champ the following year. With bugger all investment to boot. Some folks really have short memories. Or should I say shit memories?

Let's not start all of this off again please

Only if Riga lasts that long.
  • Powell struggled when he came to us initially, with a weak team and poorly motivated players. Once he had time to stamp his authority, the difference was immense. I suspect that it could be the same at Huddersfield, though whether he'll get the affection and patience he got here is debatable. If they go down there is no-one better to take them back up... but only if he's still there.

Let's not lie, we had a perfectly fine goal disallowed in the first half. Would've changed the game completely. You were unlucky but as they say in sport, you make your own luck ;)
