The Future Of Chris Powell

  • Probably end up at Bournemouth when Howe gets taken by Palace/QPR/Fulham/West Ham
  • I bumped into him at the Jobcentre on Friday. He was chipper as usual and told me that he had selected the following three choices for his jobseekers agreement in this order.

    Spot welder
    Thatched roofer
    Football coach

We wished each other luck and as we parted company he assured me that I was more likely to be Charlton Head Coach than he was while RD still owned the club.

    Lovely man.

  • QPR when they mess up the playoffs
Brings in 22 new players wins the championship with a record points total and gets backed the following year and superhoops become a regular champions league club

Surely he would not touch QPR if they fail to go up as they will be under a transfer embargo or some other serious punishment from such vast over spending?

Well i would hope so if football really has any justice anyway.
  • Tony F said he'd sort that no worries!

Howe is to Bournemouth what Powell was to us. Won't leave unless he's forced to (which he was first time he left). Bournemouth are owned by a billionaire so the resources are there.
  • 11) Chris will set up a plumbing business with Parsley Pete. It will become hugely successful and after floating on the stock exchange 10 years hence, Chris will buy the club languishing in league 1 (All the good players keep being sold by RD).
Due to injuries Chris will ask Piotr to try out and he makes the squad. Not only does Piotr fire us back into the Championship but also scores the goals which take us to Wembley where we beat the Arse 4-1 in the FA Cup final.

I've got a lot of time for Powell but I personally don't think he'll ever be a successful Premiership manager. Hope he proves me wrong, but I just don't see it

Bet you a score He'll be managing in the prem within 3 years.

We just weren't patient enough. Good luck Chris. Whoever he manages next are lucky fuckers as far as I'm concerned.
    I'd take that bet. ;-)

  • Got to be 8 - He gets a season ticket in the North upper next season enhancing his Charlton legend status and wearing his old hat.

    :-)
  • Spanners next manager ????
  • Maybe Chris Powell is just too nice a guy to be a SUCCESSFUL Football Manager ?!
  • ^ This isn't the jokes thread.
  • On a slightly different note, I wonder if CP would ever want to come back to Charlton after what happened to him here. Two tough years under the muppets and now Roland might have soured his feelings for the club. Would be sad if that were the case, but you could understand it.
  • Every time I see or hear mention of Powell I reflect on what a shame it was that he did not make a complete success of his time at Charlton .. he always seems such a lovely man and I am sure that his time at the valley will always remain deep in his heart as a fond if blighted memory .. I feel that his future could be in the media, even in politics .. whatever, I and I am sure that we all, wish him all the very best
  • I think he'll get a job in mid-Championship and he will one day reach the Premier League.

Whoever that team is, they will be my 2nd team as long as he is there.
  • I would like to see him be the Manager of the England U21s so he can impart his tactical nous on the next generation of England footballers.
  • perhaps cousins and poyet would get their debuts and then be the central midfield pairing

  • I am certain Chris will have a great future as his man management is supreme. He is a very intelligent man and performed wonders especially getting us promoted to the Championship. He has the potential to do anything well given the required resources.I hope one day he will return to the Valley .
  • A job as a football manager but which level depends on the manager-merry-go-round. Could be anything from lower prem to lower league one.

Even if it was with palace?

  • Found a club yet? Or on the verge?
  • Although it would be a drop down to League 2 ,I did wonder if Southend might be a possibility if they parted company with Phil Brown.
