Anyone that thought he would walk into the team is mental, judge him at the end of this season. The time at Liverpool not playing didn't seem to do Jonjo any harm
Another classic example of a young player breaking into first team football and being very badly advised. I'm thinking that if he had remained at The Valley for just last season he would now have seventy odd games behind him and I don't doubt that he would have progressed. Instead he's now classed as "a disappointment" and his career has stalled. Not much chance of another PL team being interested so he's going to loaned to a championship club again and in all probability will end up signing for a championship team full time to rebuild his reputation.
Grab the money son.
And you Gomez
I think it was us that grabbed the money for Gomez.
Some on here seemingly forget that he is only 20 years old. Still has time to get himself involved on a more regular basis, and infact I hope he does just to shut up some of the 'told you so' merchants on here who still haven't moved on.

I only saw him only a few times. A couple live and a one or two on TV. I was immensely disappointed every time given the hype about him I use to read on here. Reminded me a lot of Josh Wright. Looked good but when you analysed it rarely good in a way that hurt the opposing team like a Parker or Coquelin. Playing in a free deep role always asking for a short pass from the defender when he had no opponent within 20 yards and then 9 times out of 10 strolling side ways and making an easy square pass around the half way line. He just seemed completely ineffectual to me.
When he broke into the team he was mostly the best player we had. I of course accept that you may have seen only a couple of poorer performances but on the whole he was a revelation. Player of the year in fact.
Had he remained and got games in the championship last season I don't doubt he would now be the subject of much PL transfer speculation and for a very decent fee and wages greater than he achieved last year.
I don't generally blame players from making the jump onto PL when they get the chance. Very often life changing financially. But so so many of thes lads make that choice one season too soon. In Poyets case I doubt he was in desperate need of the money anyway.
His career has hit a wall. His stock is now less than it was a year ago. Nothing will convince me that he wasn't badly advised.
The fact he showed zero loyalty irks me a bit also.
I happen to think he can pull his career back because I think he's actually a real talent but he would have been better to remain with us.
Compère his departure with that of Shelvey and Gomez. They showed class and loyalty and consequently have the affection and good wishes of all Charlton supporters.
We are a fickle lot I know but I think my assessment is pretty widely agreed with.

You could have just stated that you think he was good, had/has a lot of potential, maybe explain why you think he has potential.

Lovely that there wasnt a mention of his time at Charlton there at all... West Ham Academy really has taken him for their own, thankfully he's chosen Uruguay (Didnt realise he went to the U20 World Cup with them this Summer) so they cant claim they produced another possible England World Cup winner

You can be sure in time to come that there will be no mention of Charlton when the press write up about Joe Gomez. We are seemingly a trivial blot on the football landscape who irritatingly produce good home-grown talent.

As per usual. It seems those actually at the game don't agree Poyet had a good game:
'Sorry but both Oxford and Poyet were nothing better than average, also given this was a semi professional opponent too. Both need to start putting in standout performances to get a sniff at premier league game time. Oxford I can sympathise with because he was played out of position purposely yesterday for the first half, Poyet had his natural role and did nothing special whatsoever, just average. Josh Cullen is the one for me that didn't get the praise he deserves, 20 mins of game time and threw himself around, plus hit the bar with a great strike, exciting stuff from him.'
'Absolute rubbish. Poyet had a stinker by his standards, continuously gave the ball away but grew as the match went on with a bit more tenacity. He will prove to be a good player but lets not jump on a band wagon because he's a young talent.'
'Have to agree re. Poyet... wasn't good enough given this golden chance to shine.'
When you have suggested to a player's agent that he will be available for another season on loan somewhere else the least you can do is provide some quotes for his marketing DVD.

Sorry but where does it say he came through the west ham academy
there was a couple of paragraphs on Poyet and that was it, why would they mention us, he has nothing to do with us anymore.
from skysports today:
POYET WANTS TO STAY
Diego Poyet is determined to establish himself in Slaven Bilic's West Ham side this season and avoid another loan spell.
The 20-year-old joined the Hammers from Charlton last summer but has only three Premier League appearances to his name after being sent out on loan at Huddersfield last season.
"My preference is to want to be at West Ham," he said, when asked if another loan move may be on the cards.
We need Diego Poyet to do well at West Ham in order to pick up our extra payments for appearances etc. Hard dosh will always top schadenfreude, certainly in our position, where the club is making a loss every year and we're trying to strengthen.
I don't care too much for the player's advisors (including his dad) but, lest we forget, he did make a major contribution to keeping us in this division. As for his few muted comments on Twitter, it was, indeed, a very difficult and unstable time at CAFC, plus he was only a teenager at the time.
If West Ham manage to sign Alex Song on a permanent basis (and he attended their game on Thursday), I don't doubt that Poyet will be sent out again on loan to a Championship club, especially as they've signed another midfielder, Pedro Obiang from Sampdoria.
Speaking of additional transfer payments, David Gold is asserting that they are working hard to get Carl Jenkinson in on a permanent basis. It's been previously reported that Arsenal are only willing to let him out on loan, although if there was a permanent transfer to West Ham or elsewhere, we'd hopefully pick up a decent sell-on percentage of Arsenal's profit if Carl went for £8 million or so.

I might be wrong, but I thought I read on here that any Sell-on clause for Jenkinson was sold by MS and TJ
Comments
He'll then start the season after that as first choice.
Some people on here are very precious!
Poyets contract ends and he leaves = bad.
Gomez fucks off half way through his contract = not too bad.
Church kicked out by club at end of his contract = good.
